can someone show me a picture of an athenian shield? i've been looking for like 2 hours now! the best i've come up with are a shield with an A on it, a shield with a big grinning face, and the RTR shield with what looks like a psi on it

I suggest you copy it over any shield skin you want, make it look painted and you will be good to go.

I believe it is a stamp for the city of Athens. Generally, people would abbreviate names on coins and monuments to save space.

No kidding. Trying to decipher the titles of some Medieval or Early Modern ruler from his coins tends to be a bit of a challenge in filling in missing letters and guessing abbreviations, especially if he had a lot of them.
