I can't start EB all of a sudden because '/settlement_plans/roman_forts.txt' has come up with some sort of overlap error on line 37. And I don't know how to fix it. I haven't done any modding, so I don't know how this can suddenly happen. Can anyone upload a clean copy of roman_forts?

Sounds like your install may have become corrupted, if you haven't made any changes or added anything lately. It may be safest to uninstall/reinstall. You may have other corrupt files.

Alright, I uninstalled everything. To be safe, I even uninstalled RTW. Reinstalling everything again including 0.81a v2 resulting in the whole thing working fine. That was the first time. The second time I booted up the game a few hours later resulted in exactly the same problem. So surely you can't be telling me that my install has become corrupted -again-, less than five hours after it was solved, and that it corrupted exactly the same file again.

Here's the error message.

'Script error in /eb/data/settlement_plans/roman_fort.txt at line 37, column 1.

Border wall features-found more than one adjoining feature, there must be overlap somewhere (position -1.#IND00, -1.#IND00)'

Any idea how this happened? It actually managed to load immediately after I played, and I managed to get some gametime in. But after I went out for awhile and came back to continue playing, the same message plays again. I am really quite irritated, since I just wasted the entire morning uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.

Could you try to extract that specific file once more from the installer using 7-zip and compare with your current one? It might become somehow corrupted during your first run, but I can't say why .

Hmm. It did become corrupted on my first run, that much I can tell you. The second time I reinstalled it I ran a custom battle involving a Roman fort and when I ordered it to load the battle, it just reverted to the faction selection screen and just hung there. Clicking the 'proceed to unit selection' button didn't work at all. I'll try to get 7-zip and test it out. But it worries me that no matter what I did to the file it gave me an error -somewhere-. I've tried deleting entire swathes of the code in that file and trying, but all it did was move the overlap error to another line. I've had errors from everything from line 37 to line 41...

EDIT: Okay here's the deal. No more problems with loading, I've done it five times just to be sure. The whole thing loads smoothly now. BUT. The custom battles no longer work. At all. Whether with settlements or not, whatever factions are involved, when I click 'start battle' it just reverts to the faction selection screen and just hangs there. And the new campaign start screen (it looks new, at least) is a bit weirded out now, since clicking on 'EB Main Campaign' gets me a message saying 'select an item first'. And clicking on Provincial Campaign (which I did not do in my pre-corruption install) gets me to the screen resembling the historical battles screen before I get to the campaign selection.

EDIT 2: Now after fighting through a few turns and quitting the game for lunch, I get on it again two hours later to find the file is once against corrupted, and I have to copy the original in again in order to let the game boot up. Hmm.

But it works again a single time when you extract the file once more from the installer, right?

Is he playing EB with BI? Cuz it sure sounds like he is at the BI selection screen for the campaign, since for whatever weird reason you have to go through the Provincial Campaign to get the EB Main campaign if you use BI...dunno if that's useful but I felt the need to try and chip in.

Oops, I didn't look around at this thread till now. Yes, it worked at least a single time after putting in the file. It worked more than twice, in fact. And why yes, I am playing with BI. Does that change things? Perhaps I shall change it back to RTW.exe and see how it works when I get back from work today.

Then it seems the game is screwing it up. Maybe you could try to make the file in question read-only? I don't know if the game cares about the file attribute, but it's worth a shot.

The Wicked has the same problem. Maybe you have something in common with him that could explain the cause, like the antivirus?

I have no antivirus. XD

One thing, though, now that I've switched back to RTW.exe instead of BI, it works nicely and hasn't corrupted since. It also hasn't screwed up my roman_forts.txt, and custom games now work. I think it has something to do with BI. Comments?

No comment beyond that BI is not supported :smash:.

The problem's back again, hmm. o.o And I'm running the game from the vanilla exe.

What other programs do you have running at the time? Since it happens to two people and not anyone else, there has got to be something special on your computers.

i usually don't leave anything running except for EB... o.O except possibly ScreenHunter 5.0. for my screenshots.

It didn't go away when i replaced the file though, but was mysteriously alright again when I restarted the comp.

Oh, i remember now. I was loading EB immediately after quitting a session of Maple Story.

Sounds innocent enough. Any Sony rootkit crap installed perhaps? Don't know why it would affect that file though ... What about your hardware?

To me, a random corruption like that sounds more like perhaps the start of some HDD problems, any other files that you might have ignored for a while having problems? Maybe try defragging and do a disck check.

i suspect it's the hard disk, it has been some time since i got it... many years old. Well, it hasn't been corrupting since, pretty well-behaved...
