View Full Version : Will it really expand?

I read in a previous post that the expansion pack might be available with out the original game included from EA at a lower price. Since I already own the original game, it seems a waste to pay in part for it again, and it seems unfair that a latecomer can buy the Warlord pack for $40-$45 and have everthing that I will end up spending $90 or so for. Of course I have had the pleasure of playing the original in the interim so maybe that is the trade off.

The moral may be that the early bird gets the worm, but he has to pay full price. Hell,
I unwittingly purchased Shogun for $42.95 just a couple of weeks before it was re-released at $19.95. This is why I don't fool with the stock market.

I don't even check the bargain bins any more because I know that all I will see are games that I paid full price for when they came out two weeks earlier.

Case in point.
My latest brilliant puchase was a game called Age of Sail II by Talonsoft. It is a buggy unplayable piece of crap. I held out waiting for a patch. Best Buy put it on their bargan shelf 2 weeks later, so I'm guessing there won't be much support from the publisher now.

Yes, FO, I know exactly what you mean. I paid nearly 100 guilders (about 45 dollars)for Imperialism 2 about 18 months ago, and I saw it on sale recently for 9.95 (guilders, that is). You won't catch me near the stock market either.

I suppose computers in general and computer games in particular develop so quickly that they have a relatively short shelf-life. Unlike Thunderbirds, for example, which is almost as good now as it was when I saw it first time round - cough! - years ago.

And much as I enjoyed Imperialism 2, Gettysburg and AOK at the time, since I started playing STW six months ago I've not looked at another game. It has the tactical elements lacking in Imperialism, the variety of units lacking in Gettysburg, the strategic depth lacking in AOK and the playability and interest to knock spots off all three.

Now, if STW had a diplomacy engine that actually made you think about whether to accept alliances or not ... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I hope we get a break on the expansion price too. I'm not sure how EA would manage it though. Tear the cover off the manual and send it in? The box is long gone...

Download an upgrade somehow after paying for a key?

FO, I like your sig. I've been a civilian all my life but I learned the quote serving as a volunteer at Ft. McHenry in the recreated 3rd Artillery Regiment, USA. We received training in 1814 era musketry as well as the 6lb field guns.

I served on a CW 12lb howitzer crew at Ft. Washington on the Potomac too for one summer. Muzzle loading artillery is , ahem, quite a blast!

Oh, BTW, I got burned on Age of Sail II just like you did.

Nelson, FO:

AOS2 has its second patch out for download - judging from lurking on the AOS2 board response seems like it fixed a good deal. The stated intent anyway is for 3rd patch to come also. Haven't had much time to check validity myself though.

I am aware of the last patch, but many have indicated that it created as many problems as it solved. I actually said in a post on that forum that even when you could get the game to run it was missing so many elements that should have been included, that a miracle patch wouldn't save it.
I don't want to get in trouble with the forum police, so I think I will make a more complete post on the off topic board.
Cheers.

I'm envious. I only got to dress out and
serve a 12 Lb Napoleon twice with a Confederate re-enactment group in Memphis, Tn a few years back, but it was a blast as you say. Just had too much going on in my life at that time to stay with it.

I trained at the Fort Sill artillery school way back in 1969 and got that signature line from there.
