I suddenly got this whimsical idea of playing around with the export_desc_unit file, so I read the instructions and ran the unpacker.

And while I was waiting for the roughly 7gigs to unpack, I saw an error messege that I did not have enough HDD space, and space I lacked - now I have half-ridden data folder and whenever I play i have empty parts on UI and the game is basically messed up...noticeably in terms of UI but i dont know what else.

What can I do??

I took the file_first: true part off, now custom battles seem to function.

However is there any way to reserve unpack_all process?

Basically what happened was that you ran out of space on your hard drive while you were unpacking the files of M2TW, so basically your game is probably eternally messed up until you uninstall the game and reinstall it. Then delete some picture (you know the kind) that most people have saved on their computers, free up the room on your hard drive, and start over the process. Either that or go ahead and delete the data off you HDD and try to rerun the unpacker, which could unpack everything you didn't unpack and it will run correctly again.

The last one is a long shot. Also, be sure and save your "saved games" in another folder. I'm not sure if the uninstalling process deletes saved games, but I'm thinking it does.

Good luck.

This is better off in the modding questions subforum.

As for your problem, if you wanted to only mod the unit file, then this is the only file you should unpack, and not every file contained in the pack.
When you unpack everything on the other hand, you need to delete some of the files (check the modding forum for that, I don't remember off the top of my head).

Since all you unpacked should (read 'should') be in the unpacker subfolder rather than your actual data folder unless you changed that, then deleting the unpacker's data subfolder should fix your problem and you can go ahead and simply unpack the unit file only.
Reading your post however, it seems you already overwrote your data folder and all its contents, so you might want to consider a reinstall and directly patch up to 1.2 (1.3 only if you really need to, for MP or Kingdoms) and then unpack the unit file only.

As for how to do this:
C:\Medieval2\tools\unpacker\unpacker.exe --source=c:\medieval2\packs\*.pack --destination=c:\medieval2\tools\unpacker --filter=*unit.txt

Your unpacker's target line should read something like that, except with your m2tw folders changed to the way they are in your installation.

Gosh don't reinstall, just unpack again.

Psst, he's lacking hard drive space and overwrote most his data directory.

Yeah then clean up some **** as has been suggested. Or delete all files in the data dir that have been unpacked (i.e. everything except the animations, cursors, fmv, sounds and world folders)

Thanks for the response, Im uninstalling rtw atm ( I have seperate hard disks for program files and other..pictures, you know) to free up my main HDD, Im thinking about unpacking again which should be a just clean, unpacked, 7gigs of stuff most of i probably won't ever touch right?

Or can I just delete eveything in the data folder except the above 5 folders and get away with and hopefully free up some space? I don't wanna delete something important... :(

Well those folders are all that's in my data folder so unless you delete any of them you should be fine.
However leave the file in that you want to mod.
