My professor has suggested that the class find some good (preferably slow) German music that we can listen too in order to aid our listening comprehension. I was wondering if someone could post some good links to German music on YouTube. Please, no rapp, jazz, funk, techno, etc. :P That is not the type of music I would like to listen too. :P

Thanks,
Vuk

Thanks.
That was a little low-class. :P (no offence :beam:) Do you know of any classical German music? Maybe Christmas songs? :beam: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring? Holy Night? Silent Night? O Come All You Faithfull? I think it would be easier to follow along to the words if it was a little slower. :beam:
Thanks,
Vuk

P.S. I thought the German language would be ill suited to music, but it is actually pretty good. :P

Dude if you want to learn a language don't try to do it the easy way, pick a band that speaks/sings at an almost normal tempo and it will do wonders for the practical application of your language skills. Some Rammstein songs helped me quite a bit, though some songs are either a bit too fast to actually help and/or the guy isn't easy to understand.

I'd suggest Wollt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen?, Asche zu Asche, Ich Will and other relatively slow Rammstein songs as a comprehension aid. Lindemann sings/speaks at about a normal German tempo so it will help, plus it gives you some random vocab, and if you like the music you'll listen to it more and repetition always helps!!!

Come on you can't seriously believe Rammstein is German rock.

It's German Industrial Metal, which is much better!:2thumbsup:

Or as the Germans call it "Neue Deutsche Haerte" (ae=an a umlaut, I can't figure those things out with my silly american keyboard).

Copy it from MW. :P

Thanks all. I honestly gotta say that I do not like German music. :P (No offence to anyone who likes it) The language goes well with music, but I really do not like the artists/songs they sing/music. :P (Unless the songs posted here are not a fair representation of German music :P)

There're all kinds of music genres in German music. You've failed to tell us what kind of music you'd like to listen to (apart from Christmas songs). Once people know that it will be easier to find something that suits you.

German rock is quite good, as is opera. I'm not a fan of pop, but I'd say it's alright.

Then there's Texas Lightning. :laugh4:

Not a great fan of pop myself, but some of the stuff is good. You are right, Texas Lightining is pretty darn good. Too bad they only sing in English. :P

I understand that this gentleman is some sort of popular music artiste in Germany: http://www.davidhasselhoffonline.com/

According to Speigelonline:

It is always a bit ticklish confronting Germans with their past. You ask them why it happened. You ask whether they supported it. Why they didn't rebel against it? How could millions of people not see that they were wrong? Andreas from Berlin is a typical witness of the times. A mere 28 years old, his whole life will be marked by the mistakes of an entire nation -- an occurrence that is singular in world history.

"I swear, I have no idea how a David Hasselhoff song could top the German charts for eight weeks in 1989," he says. His tone is defensive and apologetic -- a tone one hears across Germany when talking about the historical black mark.

I've never seen any material that offensive on this board. :laugh4:

American Country :P (I know I will get roasted for that :P),
May I point out German Country music to you?
Check out "Truck Stop" and maybe add German and country as search words if you're looking at Youtube.
You're welcome. :grin2:

You should've asked them why "Modern Talking" was repeatedly in the UK Top Ten, taking that as a basis to guess at the English taste of music in general. :laugh4:

But then again, Modern Talking are German :shame:

I finally found some great German music!
Two songs sung by a certain legendary band: Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand and Sie Liebt Dich.

Very good.
Does anyone know if this certain band did any other German music that is available in the US?

Thanks,
Vuk

Something to relax to. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW03c4Vmr0k)

And then there's all the classical German music, but that's mostly without lyrics. Mozart wrote a few operas in German though, too bad you can't hear what they're singing.

I figured out a way to do it now, that one never worked for me though.

I just press alt and then a four number key like: 0196 for Ä.
