Technically not a problem with EB itself, but it does spoil my EB enjoyment, so i figured i should post it here ~D

After a complete reinstall of Windows XP SP2 (i do this every 6 months) and RTW + BI (Activision 1.0 + Sega 1.4) + 1.6 patch, im experiencing some serious problems with the game. This is the first time im having trouble getting RTW and EB to work properly and im playing RTW since 1.0 and EB since 0.74.

Here are the symptoms:

-in the main game menu it now takes several seconds to load the next page
(after clicking on options, for example.)

-calculation time for AI turns are at least three times as long as before (vanilla RTW 1.3 + and EB 0.81v2, both first turn, and, no, this is not the usual EB slowdown :sweatdrop: )

No slowdowns during battles or my own turns though.

my (not so) bella machina:

3500+ Athlon
1024 mb ram
Geforce 5900 XT
1536 virtual ram

latest nvidia non-beta drivers
DirectX 9c (august)

all unnecessary programs are disabled via Task Manager

This is what i´ve tried so far:

Installation on different drives
Reverting to old drivers
new Windows installation
a non-BI installation (just 1.0+1.3+1.5)

The funny thing is, vanilla RTW 1.0 and other games work just fine, but the 1.3 to 1.6 patches seem to mess up my installation. So, ladies and gentlemen, any ideas or suggestions?

EB will not work correctly on 1.3, it's meant for 1.5. It should work on your 1.6 installation as the non-BI is 1.5 then. I don't know about the 3500+ Athlon, but if it's a dual-core you'll need to install the drivers for it. This will make a world of difference! Also, your graphics card is likely slowing everything (and possibly memory too).

hehe, i didnt try EB with 1.3, when i wrote "vanilla RTW 1.3 + and EB 0.81v2" i meant vanilla RTW 1.3+ and RTW 1.5/1.6 + EB 0.81v2. Sorry if this has been a bit unclear.

But thanks for the input, bovi :stwshame:

Edit: Looks like ive found the problem, i forgot to install an audio driver component (one of three, damn soundboard) which resulted in a rediculous high cpu usage whenever RTW tried to access audio files. But im still having no clue why 1.0 has been unaffected by this...anyway, back to kicking some roman ass as a Megas Alexandros wannabe...~D
