View Full Version : Lusotanian Trouble

I'm playing as the Lusotanians, and it's been a really fun campaign. I have a problem, though. The Carthaginians moved three full stacks onto the southern tip of Iberia, around Gades, but they won't do anything with them. They are just sitting there, ruining my crops but not attacking Gades itself (even though they are literally adjacent) or moving anywhere around the map. I don't have the military to fight three full stacks head on (I was hoping to finesse them into a few bridge battles), and I need to move my army out from the south to take care of the Roman threat to the north, but I don't dare leave myself defenseless like that. What to do?

Another question: Why aren't these armies absolutely draining Carthage's coffers? Does the game refill their money somehow?

You are new at EB welcome the forum the game as script for given money to the AI control faction :whip: but if you put this mod https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=83349 most your problem will by ouver for some time

As Lussos the best way to handle Carthage is to blitz them in the first few turns. Once you get rid of the two Carthy city you should be fine.

If thats too late for you then try buy couple Slingers and go hit one of the armys and bail soon as you run out of ammo. Repeat that couple times.

Carthage always trains stacks of crappy inf in Southern Iberia in my campaigns as well. Happens every time, regardless of what faction I am.

Got that at the mo in my Mak campaign. The carthies built stacks in southern Iberia but didnt do anything with them. I think Lusotann are taking the fight to them tho.

I think because of Carthage's position on the map, the AI can't handle it and acts what seems to be just plain retarded.

It would be resolved if you could make the landbridge at the strait of Gibraltar so they could march south, and the AI is too dumb to use fleets, but for the life of me I cant figure out how to create landbridges and see if it would fix the problem or not. :shame:

I'd like to buy slingers and play tag with them. My problem is that whenever I retreat (actually I haven't tried this in EB but this is the case in vanilla and RTR) I lose a bunch of men, even if they clear the field ahead of the enemy. Why is that?

You could always try to flood them

What is this "flood" of which you speak?

In response to your problem, perhaps park your stack at a bridge in Carthage's province? They should send at least one stack to counter you. Also, it seems that Carthage builds at least one stack of lousy troops. If it has in your case perhaps assualt that stack to get the ball rolling.

take them early on is the best solution, they only have 1 or 2 unit guarding in their cities early on, 2 stacks down south, 1 stack heads up north (tried to take the town w. the built-in mine, it helps alot). By the time you got most of the Iberia Penisualla(sp?), it's easy mode for Lustonian :laugh4:

If they are just spamming weak infantry like they did in my game it is pretty easy to beat them. I took my faction leader and faction heir and made them attack the enemy general together then they played hammer and anvil with the carthy infantry. Just line your infantry with the weakest in the front and your veterans in the back. I used Balearic Mercs to harass the Carthies into attacking my stacked infantry. Then they moved to the flanks and peppered the enemy. I won 3 or 4 battles this way and I was outnumber by a ratio of between 1:2 and 1:4 in all the battles.

i second the idea of a landbridge at Gibraltor, i would love to have that for the lusotannas is my campaign as they have had 3 full stacks sitting one or two steps from the southern coast. These stacks sat there for at least 20 years doing nothing, i probably would house rule myself not into using it but for the dumb computers sake i would love to know the code to add it? any help?

This idea is thirded, fourtheded, fiftheded, and sixeded.
So, would one ambitious and zealous modder, please take fifteen-minutes of his/her sparetime and 'make with the landbridges'.

Went the water away again, or was your campaign broken afterwards? Did all soldiers die in the area?

lol its just a graphical error, its happened to me before, nothing too bad happens after you punch the NEXT TURN button, and everything resets and is back to normal, the "flood" Isnt really a flood in other words
