View Full Version : New mtw icons for .org?
Kraellin

i realized that these shld go in the mtw forum rather than the stw/we/mi forum, so here they are:
http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/saladin-k-1.gif http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/henry-k-1.gif http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/generic-k-1.gif
http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/knight-k-1.gif http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/princess-k-1.gif http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/spearman-k-1.gif http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/eventspre-k-1.gif
these were taken from pics on .com, cropped, enhanced and i had borders on them as well, but goofed on that part, so i'll have to fix those up later, maybe.
as far as i know they are all copyrighted by creative assembly.
the original artwork is quite impressive. i was particuarly impressed by some unfinished line drawings of various riders on horses. i've been working with a couple of those to try and turn them into icons for use here, but it's a LOT trickier than the above ones, so they may come later. we'll see. :)
folks, these are just submissions to the .org personnel for their use in the .org, if they want them. if not, well ok.
oops. just tried to post this and got a message that i've exceeded the maximum limit for images per post. limit is apparently 8. not sure how i got 10 or 12 or whatever it was over in the we/mi forum then. lol. anyways, i'm removing 3 of these and i'll post them later on.
allright, this is pissing me off now. removed the 3 and i'm still getting that message.

Hi chaps.
I had a go at making a few as well. Cropped from MTW artwork I found on IGN.
I'm not sure they're up to the standard of Kraellin's above but, here we go. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I like all the icons, if I ever had one I'd prefer one of those drawings to be one of the skecthes, they just look good I feel.
Excellent finds K^2.
I'll tell you m8, we had to make a lot of consessions over the years because we had to add borders to all the icons; the difference between what you can do in 44x44 with a border and 50x50 without a border is more profound than most people realize + making a custom icon in 44x44 is like writing on the head of a pin sometimes...
-It looks like for better or worse the borders are being phased out now though + I often think that if I'd only made the first batch 75x75 how much more we could have accomplished with the extra elbow room.

Thanks for all the great comments chaps!
Yeah, I know they've turned out a little bit on the blurry side, sadly it happened during the resizing.
I'm working with Hypersnap as my only Graphics editor, http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif since my PSP7 30 day trial ran out.....a loooong time ago. lol
But, i've gone back and had a fiddle, tried to get the first one looking better, also had a go at a couple of others.
If you like them, please feel free to use em, fiddle with them to get them looking better etc etc.

thanks guys :)
and nice work, schultzy. i recognize those pics ;)
k-man...44x44? ugh. tough enough at 50x50. i hadnt realized you made some of the first icons for the .org. cool. which ones did you do? post em?
and what's with this 8 image limit in this forum? i posted 12 in the we/mi forum without any problem, but in there i'm limited to 8 per post and my own personal icon seems to count as 1 of them, so i can only post 7 new ones at a time.
anyways, more coming later on.

these are a couple of the original art works i pulled off the .com site. i am in awe of the person that does these. i've always loved black and white line drawings. i had a friend that could do these free-hand and it always flabbergasted me how she could capture each important feature and line of a person's face in such remarkable clarity with just a series of lines.
i'll post the original art on a line and then 1 or 2 of the transition pieces i did in order to render them into icons. these were a LOT harder to do than the full color icons. many more stages to put things through to get a final product.
and shld the original artist see these, i can only hope he/she takes no offense at my alterations of this work. my only reason for doing this was to make something that would show up a little better when reduced down to the sizes used for the icons. i have nothing but respect for the original work and the artist.
the original:
http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/c6.bmp
the transition:
http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/c6-k-1.bmp
the original:
http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/c3.bmp
the transitions:
http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/c3-k-2.bmp http://home.domaindlx.com/takiyama/kraellin/c3-k-3.bmp
if for any reason, CA, or the original artist objects to these being here, i'll remove them immediately. the same goes with kuma. say the word and they're gone.

I pretty much did all the icons except for the force, soly, Jag, and kocmoc (and anything without a border that has shown-up recently). The rare ones are listed here (http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/Forum6/HTML/002431.html).
P.S. I did not do Shuko or the The S:TW League on the rare list.

Excellent choices and making of the icons, Krae & Shultzy. It does sadden me to think the samurai ones are going away (being naturally quite partial to them), but change is inevitable.
Perhaps when a Shogun II comes out in 2015, I'll have eventually worked my way up in post counts. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
Kurando-dono, I do have to applaud your past work. I never thought about just how small the icons were. Having done icon/button/otherwise-tiny graphic work for a programing friend of mine, I was nearly driven insane by trying to work in such small confines, whether I start off the small originally or work larger and then try to make a shrunken version look good.
Anyway, great work all around by both.

thanks guys.
and kuma, feel free to use them, as far as i'm concerned. it's my contention that these still belong to CA and not me. the original art is all theirs. i'm just a forger ;)
and k-man, i dont know why yer out of the biz of making icons. you're obviously good at it. very professional stuff.
i also went browsing last night for more medieval art work. only this time i went outside of the game stuff to actual medieval art sites. quite an eye-opener. there's tons of stuff out there.

nice work Krae. I just sent in the icons that will probably be used once the site switches over. If you (Krae only)email me, I'll attach them and you can have a look over. They're within the accepted size/restrictions, but no longer square. Just to get things going: the Mod icons are all religious heads.
