Ive had MTWII on the shelf since Christmas, never bothered to open/install. After installing and winning my first game last week there are a couple things Im confused on and I hope some of you can help with. I looked around for the answers but was unable to find them, so if these are redundant questions my apologies in advance.

1. How do you acquire one of the military orders? When I took Zaragosa in Spain I received the Knights Hospitilar after several turns. When I conquered Scotland, the Templars were already in Edinburough. Im now trying out the Dane's for a new challenge, and according to the available units I can use Templars and Hospitilars, but have no idea how to attract them. How does it work?

2. If my cardinal is elected Pope, is there any way I can manipulate him/use him to my own devices?

3. If I use the .txt editor and make the Papal States a playable race, does the game fritz out like it does with the SPQR in RTW, or would it still play through?

4. Does the diplomacy in this game seem really random and screwy? Treaties/alliances dont seem like they're worth a hill of beans and are broken seeminly on a whim. More of an observation then a question. :)

Thanks for the help, again, in advance.

hello emperor! firstly, if you haven't already, do install the 1.2 patch.

1. crusades, high chivalry governers. you can only have one order. full details in this guide
(https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=75649)

2. you get perfect relations and he's much more likely to listen to you when asking for a crusade target, but you don't get to control him directly.

3. it works. lots of mods do this.

4. yes, but much better in 1.2 and it depends a lot on your reputation being high (see this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=78429))

have fun!

*edit* woohoo - i made member!

Yeah I installed 1.2 before I started playing. I figured you could only have 1 order unless you captured a city that had another one.

Not keen on dling a mod currently, but its good to know the Vatican is an option if I want to play a third time through.

Odd. I had stellar reputation until people started breaking alliances and attacking me for no apparent reason. Oh well.

Thanks for the quick response!

I've noticed that too, other allied factions breaking the alliance and attacking you seems to have a negative effect on YOUR reputation... :wall:

i haven't noticed that at all - except the secondary effects from a drop in relations and the fact that DOWs force allies to chose one side (thereby losing everyone the rep boost from alliances).

its more of a reputation drop due to being at war with someone weaker i believe. Either way, its still despicable of them to do it.
