I have played all which are released yet. Currently i'm shifting between the last three titles. As i only have my notebook at my disposal, which has seen some years now and is not that suited for gaming, i'm mostly playing MTW, because it is not able to run M2TW and RTW only poorly.
Ah, gotcha. Well I'm happy you're playing MTW, but I sympathize with you for not being able to run the newer games as well. :sweatdrop:

Good afternoon guys/gals, I just wanted to say hi from over here :)

I've bought the full Total War package a couple of days ago and I seem to be completely addicted. What has CA done to me :oops:

At the moment I am mostly playing RTW, because it has my interest. I'm also trying to become an archaeologist with a special interest in the greeks and the romans, so this game (with EB once I finished vanilla) will hopefully give me some extra background information.

I hope I'll have fun around here.

Hello everyone - new to the forum, but certainly not to the games. Been playing total war since Shogun. Actually, in those days, I bought a new computer with the sole purpose to run STW.

I was thrilled once I've put all the stuff in it (assembled it myself) and I booted nicely. :2thumbsup:

Then I discovered that STW wouldn't run without a soundcard! :drama3: As my funds were a little strapped then (college student) I thought I could cut that corner. But no - I promptly ran down to the nearest store and bought the cheapest hardware! Well worth it, and I played STW that night, and the next and... you know.

lately real life has taken over though, and I rarely have more than a couple of hours a week playing games. Mostly MTW:VI (no not 6 - Viking Invation - my computer can't run MTW:6 :beam: ). Besides TW I play Civ:IV (4 - not Invation of Vikings) and the like.

Hi i just signed up, and please forgive me because im not sure where to post my question, but i would really appreciate some help. I am currently in a game of RTW with a few friends, I am incredibly noobish when it comes to technical stuff ,so i have no idea how he set this script up so that we can all play what is normally a single player campaign. Anyway, i suspect the player that made the game of cheating using rome_shell. Is there any way to check what other players have done in rome_shell (auto_win cheat etc.). Here are some specifics that may help, the script is activated by hitting f1, and clicking show me how button. We just do our turn, the next person's turn auto loads after we hit end turn, then we send the file to the next person in a pm. Thanks so much in advance for bearing with this incredibly noobish question.

I am very excited to have found this site.

I am very pleased with the TW games! If I had been told that one day I could be in war movies which I designed, and play the commanding general, and even the king, I would have said ...yer nuts!

But here I am!

I have also heard that this game can be modded and that is just icing on the cake to a guy like me. I have done some modding in the old days... Atomic Games, and Cossacks, but in looking at the files in TW games, I also never dreamed that the designers of any game would be so supportive of modders.

Anyway, nice to be here. right now I only have one question ....but I shall have more.

I've played Rome - Total War 1.5

I've looked at the forums for a while, but now I've decided to join. I've learned much about modding, but now I've got a few questions that I can't find any answers for.

By downloading WHTW I learned that you can access different kinds of editors and similar handy tools by changing the command line of rometotalwar.exe. For example the historical battle editor in game. My question is, what more can you access by changing the command line?
I suppose this is a question to a CA member, but anyone who knows can help me, right?
And also, is the Entrence Hall the right place to ask such a question? Espescially if you want a CA member to see it?

I think the CA devs generally only post in the Empire: Total War forum, so you might have better luck asking at totalwar.com since that's the official site; I understand the CA members tend to post more often there than they do here.

But I think you might have better luck asking this question in the Rome: Total War modding forums, there might be somebody there who can help you. I must say I wasn't aware you could access editors by changing the command line; may I ask which ones you have found, and what you need to add to the command line to get them?

I've only found two, the sprite generator, which you can read more about in this post https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=44180, and the historical battle editor, that I found in the shortcut to rometotalwar.exe in the WHTW download to Rome 1.5. But the battle editor didn't work in the WHTW mod, it resulted in a CTD. So I created a new shortcut which I put in a folder that I called 'Editation' in the Rome - Total War folder. I'm from Sweden, and I just suppose it's the command line that you edit. I actually don't know what the swedish name of the line that I edited is called in english, but when I looked in the post above and saw it was the command line that you edited to get the Sprite Generator to work I just assumed it was the same with the battle editor.
Anyway, if it IS the command line, then you should add:
-enable_editor -show_err
at the end. And yes, it has to be a blank (I think that's what it's called) between the " and -enable_editor -show_err
My whole line looks like this:
"C:\Program\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -enable_editor -show_err
But the command line doesn't have to say Program or The Creative Assembly, that's different from computer to computer, I think that it's more common to have your programs in the program files folder and a lot have Activision instead of The Creative Assembly. So just add the -enable_editor -show_err at the end. And don't forget the blank.:tongue:
I suggest to make a new shortcut to rometotalwar.exe rather than changing the original, in case something goes wrong.
If it works you can find the editor under the options menu in the game. But it warns you of editing battles that allready exists.

Hehe, but I've just recently discovered it, so I haven't used yet. I've just tried it out, and it's pretty nice.

Never joined a forum or anything before, but since I downloaded EB here I decided to join also.
I played AoE and Civ II when I was a kid and I turned away from games for a few years until I found RTW. It was really different and very immersive, although the A.I. can be stupid/frustratingly invincible sometimes. Downloaded EB a few weeks ago and am having the time of life! The extended map is so awesome and detailed. Well, that's enough about me.

How is MTW 2 turning out is it as good as MTWVI or on par I am not sure if I will get it at this time?How is MTWVI still playing are others still playing it or moved on to MTW2? I've been lurking/reading in the forums for a while and decided to register.

I have played RTW and recently purchased the Gold MTW2 and so far me likes.

Previously i have played a lot of FPS games, Delta Force series, Americas Army and Call of Duty 4. But since I am getting older (47 going on 48) the idiocy of some of the younger players has gotten on me nerve (only have 1 left and wanna keep it:dizzy2:) so I have been playing the TW series and found that it is appealing to me.

With my 18+ years of experience in the US Army I have taking a liking to MTW2 and seem to enjoy leading an army to sieige/destroy the armies around me.

I might ask a silly question now and then but also might be able to provide some assistance.

P.S. the forum seems to be a good one so far I have not seen any bullying.

As to whether Medieval 2 is as good as MTW/VI, it really depends on who you ask. Quite a few players still find the original MTW to be superior overall (especially in terms of challenge and atmosphere/immersion), but just as many will say they prefer the sequel. The main issue is probably going to be how important graphics are to you. If you really like the eye candy and/or can't stand older visuals, then you should probably go with M2TW; if better AI and overall gameplay are more important, then I recommend sticking with the grand original. ~:)

In regards to MTW itself, there's still quite a few of us who play it (the Main Hall remains fairly active, even after all this time). This is at least partially thanks to the various excellent mods that are available -- mods such as BKB, Pike & Musket, Samurai Warlords, and XL are (revered) household names around here. :2thumbsup:
