GAH!

What defines their availability? I know that any disbanded units become available as mercs. But, what if no units have been disbanded? Are there no mercs for hire? What if you hire ALL the mercs available? Are there no more to hire? Or, is there a random sampling of units that are made available every so often?

GAH!

Availability is dependent on disbanded units. If no units have been disbanded there will be no mercs available and if you hire what is available you will get no more.

build an inn. mercs show up there. you can also get them in a newly conquered province, but that's pretty hit and miss.

It seems that there is an availability of mercs at first but once depleted there are only a few randomly generated.

I did not know about the disbanding part. Can you disband a unit that has taken losses only to hire it back as a merc at full strength.

That would be cool...cheating but cool..

I have seen very strong merc armies early in the game so they are also randomly generated.

Nice to see a fellow tribal clansman...
