Or any of the regualr members knows this?
Is there a system as to how much an ally likes or an enemy dislikes you?
It'd be great if an ally could start to like you (+X% per 4 years that the alliance stands or something) and when they like you a lot, they'll wont betray you, help you out as much as possible vs enemy invasions and pay tribute if you've helped them or when you're alliance stands for a few years/decades.

I'd like to see this to make alliances more worth.(I didn't get the game yet-will do so probably tomorrow- so forgive me if what I asked was stupid).

edit : I also hope the differences in unit cost&maintenence are better noticable for factions who have specialised in them, like the Takeda Clan had cheaper cavelry.I hope the factions get a +1 honour and 40% discount (or something more balanced) for their specialized units...

Yes there is such a system, same system as Shogun with more rules added. Each faction look as all other factions and give them a score on how much they are liked. The actural score is not that important, but the ranking of other factions is. The AI allies with people high on the list and make war with people on the bottom of the list. They use their agents on hated enemy first.

There are many factors in marking the score, too many to list. Some of the interesting ones are how well you are doing over all, how well compare to them, glory goals, religion, war status with current allies, caught assassins and spies that gave away their masters' id before dying, tect level, influence, pass history on broken treaties and hard wired agression on certain factions like French and English.

And the answer to the question you arte about to ask, no we are not going to show the score to the player.

Thanks,
but why not?
It'd be nice, and how about the other things ,is it possible for a patch to include contributions if you're high up the friends list and that they'll wont break the alliance when they really like you?

Could you perhaps if you dont want to give out the exact score, something as,
Friendly,
Very friendly,
Admirers of your faction
etc. Just to see how well you're doing on the political side of things...

*hopes for contributions to be added*

ps: what about the edit?

GAH!

Remember those cute messages saying "Faction X has somehow managed to convince their people that they are the happiest..."?

Vanya wonders if getting that message makes the faction named therein a target of envy... and as such, drops them down a few notches on the list...

GAH!

Mith, why do you want to ruin the game with that information? Nothing in life is certain. Beware of friends who smile too much. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif Just keep an eye on your neighboring factions - friend or foe.

I haven't noticed any price difference from the custom battle prices.

I thought that the English would produce cheaper Longbowmen (I never got to them though so I don't know), and the Byzantines cheaper Byzantine Infantry or Kats. Well theer are a lot of Byzantine units one could name as their units.

Make it an option then...The alliances I have now mean nothing since I still have to reinforce my borders ,as if I was at war, get no extra income from the aliance nor much help in battle...
It'd be nice for alliances to play a biggger role...

Stil wondering about the tribute option?

yeah mith,

i've been wondering about a tribute option as well. vassal states and protectorates would be interesting also.

all sorts of uses for tribute.
we wont attack you if you pay x amount each year.
we'll ally with you for a certain compensation.
we'll attack with you for a certain compensation.
you may cross our lands for a certain amount.
we'll attack x if you'll attack y on a given date.
we'll allow your ships to enter our waters for x amount.
your emissaries are barred from our lands (unless of course you wish to pay the bribe).
the pope requires a tithe.
the pope might reconsider your excommunication for a nice healthy, completely your own determinism, 'donation'.
'gifts' to foreign powers.
and my personal favorite, marry my ugly daughter and i'll increase her dowry ;)

money was grease in those days. it turned a lot of wheels.

We are not including that information because there are many factors that affect the score, it swings wildy between turns - not only your actions but the actions of all other AI factions makes a difference to the score. It will only show you what the AI thinks of you currently, it may and probably be different next turn, so you really can't base any of your decision on the score. Similarly problem with the loyality % - it shows what the loyality is in the current turn, lots of things happens after you pressed end turn, so even if it's listed as 0%, you can still get revolts.

That's strange... both the in game text and the manual are quite explicit that the revolt percentage is for the COMING year... so you always know what your revolt percentage is in advance and can therefore adjust for it.

Is the manual + game mistaken?

That percentage is the value at the time when you press End Year, that is before any battles, or newly incoming spies etc are taken into account. Gaining or lossing a region, moving a ship here and there is enough to swing your % down to cause rebelions.

I think this would be a real nice addition to the game, I have seen a similar principle used in another game and it worked quite well..."lords of the realm 2"...playing this game really reminds me of that game...damn i loved that game...anyhoo i really think that this is quite important to have. since i have started playing this game i have not recieved any help from my allies, i have experienced no communication with my allies at all...and i feel this aspect really needs to be imporved upon....it seems such a shame that such a great game as this should overlook such a thing as this. i remember clearly that when i was playing lord of the realms 2 i could always request help when i needed it...and if they could or could not then i would get a reploy from them telling me of their decision. so far from what i have heard about allies is that you never know wheather they are going to help you only by surprise...which i feel is not all that good. anyhoo i love this game...i think it is really challenging.
