While playing Kingdoms MT2 I noticed during a battle, while my men were engaged in combat, that the banner/s started flashing red, I'm not too sure what this mean. I know that when it flashes green that they got a disease and moral goes down. I would be grateful if some one could tell me.

They are fighting to death.

Also if you fire flamethrowers at a unit the banners flash red. This probably causes a morale hit as well but I'm not too sure.

A banner becomes red when a unit is routing but can't escape. It happens usually when it is surrounded by enemies. Having no other choice, it fights to death.

They dont really fight though they just perish, bit silly really.

"There's no escape lads! Let's take some of these bastards with us!"
"Ugh, no thanks ill just let myself be stabbed"

When they fight to death their combat abilities are somewhere above "nill" - Don't expect them to do much dmg at all.

If anything you'd think they'd be going above average seeing as the ONLY way they could possibly escape is to hack their way through the enemy.

How do you make them fight till the death instead of routing?.... at least with fight to death there is a small chance, but routing is just suicide.

You can't. They fight to the death when they can't escape.

not necessarily, your scared, trying to get away, and suddenly your not just losing, your surrounded too (couple that with likely being outnumbered).

So, in essence, your units not working cohesively, scattered, probably tired, and has no hope of pulling off a victory. Sounds like a futile struggle to me =)

Yea, but you corner an animal thats normally not a threat, and it'll tear you face off to escape if it has to, same would go for a human being if his only escape route is THROUGH you.

doesn't really make much difference - by the time they are cornered, either because they are out of formation, depleted/mobbed or simply by design, they wont do much damage.

they might kill one or two guys but as Zoring stated, most of the time they just got stabbed and go down. it is more like accidentally trample down some unlucky bugger than fighting its way out or maybe some 'friendly stabbing'.

the best you can hope for is that they will at least buy you a few seconds.

Edit - grammar

+ maybe CA should add sarcastic military advisor - with comments like - "Your unit is being mobbed. HA HA!" "Your generalship sucks, now your army is sucking it" "Your units are fighting to death! ... Actually the concussed idiots are running in the WRONG direction."

Actually, now that i think about it, they really should re-word it from "Fighting to the Death" to "Panicking" or "Confused", it would depict whats going on during that a bit better.

they have totally lost it and are fighting without knowing what is going on around them. The are frenzied, confused, bezerk.
