Paradox Interactive just announced (http://www.paradoxplaza.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=239&Itemid=129) a new game set during the rise of Rome, apparently starting some time before the First Punic War, and lasting until the start of the Empire. It's based on the same engine as Europa Universalis III, and according to information divulged on the official forums, the game will have a character system which may resemble the one in Crusader Kings. There's some early screenshots up on the official forums (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=324872&page=1&pp=20).

At last! This had better not be a disappointing boring mess like CK. :crosses fingers:

Here's (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=324968) a list of quotations from the developers about the game. That's almost all of the information we have so far. I find this statement particularly interesting:
The entire game is centered on the characters featured in the game, and diplomacy is completely character-driven.
Wow! Good news :2thumbsup:
Interesting. Will have to keep an eye on this one.

So a bit like Crusader Kings then? Besides which I found EU3 to be rather disappointing and it is still poorly balanced.

I wasn't too fond of EU3 myself. I got a playable demo with one of my PC Gamer magazines and it felt very much like a "been there, done that" sort of thing.
The risk-ish type games just don't appeal to me anymore. I guess I've evolved as a gamer.

Sounds well. I like EUII (my favorite game) more than EUIII, and CK was never my favorite.

Here's hoping they'll make it more like the EU series than CK. I like characters as much as the next guy but I don't like checking on my entire court + vassals every frickin' game year. Besides, what's a Roman Patrician when compared to Medieval Barons?

*Wonders if EB will make a mod for it*
I seem to be in a bit of a minority, but I think it sounds nice. Although I'll be playing with the Hellenistic kingdomes, I can easily see the character system coming into its use there.
