I have been tabulating the success rates of the assassins versus various types of agents and troops and have come to the following list:
+5 97%
+4 95%
+3 93%
+2 90%
+1 86%
+0 83%
-1 76%
-2 66%
-3 50%
-4 34%
-5 24%
-6 17%
-7 14%
-8 10%
-9 7%
This is for emissaries where the left side is the difference in valour. For princesses add +3 to that list, for religious types +1, for generals +4, and for leader +6.
I'd like to know if a spy or assassin's chance of eluding border forts is improved as they level up.

While actually paying very close attention in my Games I agree your rates of +3 to +5 assassins.
But totally disagree with rates on the 0 to +1. In my experience they are successful less then 50% of the time.
Am I mis-reading your data ?
Thanks

Maybe I didn't explain it properly. The left side of the table is the DIFFERENCE in valour between your assassin and the target emissary. So if you have a +5 assassin and an +2 emissary, the effective level is +3, so 93%. If he is attacking a valour +2 princess instead, you add +3 to her valour, i.e. get +6, the difference is now -1, so a 76% chance of success. Attacking a level 6 leader (effective +12) would bring the difference to -7, so only 14% chance. Hope this is a bit clearer.
Nelson, as far as I know, yes, but this is hard to check due to the way the program handles random numbers.
Nice. I get 0 a lot when assassinating Byzantine generals. I still keep on attempting just to give them bad vices then drop a spy later on. Sometimes, I'd do that to an heir and kill the rest to give a faction a bad heir when I don't want to eliminate them just yet.

It certainly seems that way to me, my level 5 assasin has chased a few targets round Europe before getting him and got away with it

What level are you playing on? I'm on normal and the qouted rates seem pretty accurate ie 70% ish success rate for a lvl 0 assasin, but I've seen a few posts from people playing hard and expert who say that the qouted success rate and actual success rate are different. Which is dumb - if the success rate is actually lower cos its a harder lvl then the qouted % should be lower
