Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans.

Once again, another little teaser for all you fans of EB 1.0. Can you guess when we are going to release it :beam:

Thanks goes to Kampfkrebs for the great teaser trailer. To BozosLiveHere for his trait work on the satrapies, to abou, Krusader for their work on concepting and development of the satrapal system.

Teaser Trailer: Pride & Conquest
Kampfkrebs has been working diligently on a new line of videos for faction intros. We wanted to show off his talent as soon as possible. So here is the third of a number of teaser trailers he has made for us.

You can watch on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzXusk-nevE), or you can download a high quality version from our ftp (ftp://ftp.europabarbarorum.org/sucessortrailerHQ.rar).

Seleukid Satrapies:
Your generals can now obtain Satrap titles if they have the necessary influence and connections at court, or in other words traits. Send your general to Ekbatana and he will become Satrap of Media, same if your generals are in Susa, Persepolis or Hekatompylos and they will become satraps of those regions, while any general in the Seleukid holdings of Asia Minor could gain the title Epistrategos. And should you expand the Seleukid kingdom your generals can be installed as satraps in Armenia, Baktria and India, and if you seize Egypt or Makedonia as Archons. Just don't move your satraps too far away from their respective satrapies though or their efficiency to rule those provinces will drop.

The following is the list of satrapal offices open to the Seleukid faction:

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Satrapeia Baktrias
This man has been made satrap of Baktria, which also encompasses nearby Sogdiana and the surrounding Greek poleis. It is a truly prestigious position due to Baktria's famed wealth and also one of great importance as the satrapy is the first line of defense against the barbarian horse hordes of the northern steppes.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Satrapeia Parthyaias
This man has been granted control of the satrapy of Parthyaia, a minor yet important satrapy in the northeastern borderlands. The Satrap's chief concerns is to cultivate the fertile river valleys, maintain the roads and most importantly to defend the kingdom from the barbarian Dahai horsemen to the north.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Satrapeia Persidos
This man has been granted the satrapy of Persis, the ancient homeland of the Persians. Unless the borders change, his only concern is simply to raise taxes from the native Persian settlements and the recent Hellenic poleis.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Satrapeia Babylonias
This man is the satrap of Babylonia, one of the most important satrapies within the Seleukid kingdom. His task is to make sure the Fertile Crescent is stable both in economically as well as politically, as any disturbance in Mesopotamia can seriously bring harm to the Arche Seleukeia.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Satrapeia Sousianes
This man has been given the title of satrap of Susiana, ruling from Susa, one of the oldest and most important cities in of all Asia. Commanding the routes to and from Iran, Baktria, and India, the satrap's main concern is to keep the region protected and the routes open for trade, armies, and news to pass through unhindered.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Satrapeia Medias
This man has been granted the title of Satrap of the Upper Satrapies which also includes the satrapy of Media, a highly important region within the Seleukid kingdom as it is from here the majority of cavalry is recruited. The satrap has to make sure the mountain tribes to the northwest are kept at bay and at the same time to protect and look after the interests of the local landed Iranian nobility and Hellenic settlements.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Satrapeia Armenias
This man is the satrap of Armenia and a close associate of the King. The unruly Armenians have been brought to their knees and any satrap appointed to this region has to make sure the Armenians know their place as subjects, but at the same time be generous to those Armenians who see the benefits of loyalty.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Epistrategos tes Mikras Asias
This man is the governor of Mikra Asia, the lands west of the Tauros Mountains. His job is to protect these lands from the many neighbors encircling the borders and also to maintain the katoikiai, military settlements of the Seleukids, for the royal armies.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Strategos tou Indou
This man is a strategos or viceroy, of India, tasked with defending the eastern border of the Seleukid kingdom from the Indian rajas to the east and also to make sure that the wealth of India pours west into Iran and further on to the cities of Mesopotamia and Syria.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Archon tes Aigyptou
This man has been given the title of Archon of Egypt. His task is to protect the rich lands along the Neilos River and make sure the local Hellenes & Aigyptioi alike know Seleukid rule is preferable than that of incestuous freaks.

http://img40.picoodle.com/img/img40/9/10/5/f_SeleukidSatm_1bf913e.jpg Archon tes Makedonias
This man has been granted a truly prestigious title, that of Archon of Makedonia. It's his duty to administer the true homelands of the Seleukid Kings and their many followers and to make sure no one threatens the western holdings of the Basileos kai Basileon.

We hope you have enjoyed this teaser for the next release of Europa Barbarorum.

It didnt make it to preview, but there's a similar system for the Romani in 1.0 as well. Bozos and myself concepted and implemented a "Roman Provincial Governor " project, which like the Seleukid Satrapies awards a title ancilliary and a governor trait to your general for capturing certain territories that make up historical provincia in the Roman Republic.

There are three types of Governors, based on what type of general you have installed in the province-- Rector Provicniae, which is a standard provincial ruler, a Propraetor, for former Praetor generals, and a Proconsul, for former Consul generals.

So, if you capture the two territories needed to make up the Province of Sicily, "Provincia Sicilia", your general will become Governor of Sicily and receive certain bonuses to rule as long as he remains within the province.

It seems that the new release will be absolutely fabulous. So many changes and additions... One question, though. Are those teasers showing full intros or are they just trailers? They are rather short. BTW, this strange wind-like sound at the beginning of every trailer/intro is of poor quality.

Foot
10-05-2007, 13:59
As we've stated in every teaser, the trailers are just teaser trailers and are not faction intros.

I and everyone on the team (through silent consent) are entirely happy with Kampfkrebs work so far, "strange wind-like sound" included. Personally I like it, and can't hear a problem. But again, these are teaser trailers, work on full faction intros is not meant to be represented in these works.

Great to hear it Zaknafien. I can't wait to see what you and the rest of the Romani team have changed.

Great teasers. Release must be closer than I had thought.

Actually, we're only going to make them available through file sharing the first period, because otherwise our server's bandwidth would be quickly surpassed. You may want to find a Bittorrent or ED2K client you'll like while waiting for the release.

...this strange wind-like sound at the beginning of every trailer/intro is of poor quality.

Ive found this sound a long time ago in the depths of the internet, and yes, the quality sucks really hard.
But at least it is a license-free sound, and besides this I dont live in/at a desert nor can I reach a desert (well, concrete deserts doesnt count :p) and record the soundeffect by myself. So Im happy with what Ive got.

See it as a trademark of my works, crappy rendered EB logo with the beloved crappy sound :laugh4:

10-05-2007, 14:07
Argh! Aargh! Your 'Teasers' really deserve their name.:2thumbsup:

I assume that the installment of Type IV mentioned earlier prevents the appearance of the satrapial/provincial ancillaries?

That wind-sound sounds fine to me. I like it.

Edit: do you plan something similar for ptolemys/makedon?

Zaknafien
10-05-2007, 14:10
I'd imagine so, I of the Storm, yes. At least for the Romani govenrors, a Type II or III government is required for the province to be created.

Could I just ask one question? - What kind of unit is right on the beggining of that teaser video. (I am talking about those guys with phyrgian helmets, sort of blue tunic, swords and shield no armor)

They are new, am I right? I have never seen them before in EB, could someone please tell me what is their name, to which faction they will be available etc?

Great teaser, just one quick question.

This man is a strategos or viceroy, of India, tasked with defending the eastern border of the Seleukid kingdom from the Indian rajas to the east

Was this statement just for artistic purposes? or will 1.0 include some kind of scripted Indian army spawning?

Seleukids! Seleukids! Seleukids!

Query: How "extensive" will this title system be? For example, if a Seleukid player conquers Sicily, will the general on the island gets a "Satrap of Sicily" trait or its equivalent or are the Satrapies only limited to what's presented in the teaser?

Just wanted to point out that the name of your general doesnt change to "Satrap Glueos Stickos" for example.

And these satrap titles are ancillaries and shouldn't be hard to obtain neither easy. You have a general with low Influence the chances are more slim. There are some set criteria.
However as they are ancillaries, you can swap them around if you want, so if you think that no good Dionysos-loving drunkard of a son who'd probably spend all taxes on a major temple to Dionysos with fountains of wine should be satrap in Media say, feel free to swap ~:)

Bootsiuv
10-06-2007, 02:08

The Roman titles are both an ancillary and a trait.

For example, the ancillary for Africa is "Provinciae Africa Vetus". The trait describes the territory and its people, some history, challenges, etc.

The trait, is either "Proconsul Provinciae" or "Propraetor Provinciae" or "Rector Provinciae" based on what type of general you have there.

The Trait gives bonuses to law or public order or whatnot.

On another note, do you guys find that your servers are overloaded on the initial day of release? I wonder how many people are going to try and download this on release day. 10-07-2007, 16:05
Totally awesome, I really love the Satrapy-system. But I have one question: What Epistrategos and Archon mean? I know that Archon means something like "The powerfull" or "The Old" but what is a good english equivalent? And I always thought Strategos meant general, or was it both Vice-roy and general or where these two things the same for the Hellenes:dizzy2: ?

paullus
10-07-2007, 18:30
Good questions Basileus Seleukeia (I almost put your name in initials, then realized that "BS" probably wouldn't come across too well).

Strategos took on an administrative-military aspect in the Hellenistic world. Its presently a point of contention whether the Ptolemaic "strategos" had any real military authority at all. The epistrategos is a title for a strategos holding authority over either (or likely both) a really important/large area, or (likely and) multiple subordinate strategoi. An Archon is an administrative ruler (can also have military authority, depending on the context).

We also have a similar situation with the Ptolemaioi (including Court titulature which changes in the various periods of Ptolemaic rule) but its done with traits instead of ancillaries, mainly because the Ptolemaic strategoi usually oversaw considerably smaller areas than a Seleukid satrap or Roman proconsul, so there were a number of men with the title of strategos within the borders of any one province of Egypt on our map.

You are clearly a dirty (old) man....:laugh4:

Yikes!! Would you be so kind as to perhaps make a recommendation?
I use bitcomet, seems to have much faster download rates then other clients.

That is because some old versions of Bitcomet were designed in way that exploits certain aspects off bittorrent technology. In other words, it cheats by giving it's user more download on behalf of others and at the same time uploading less. Considering that actually means leeching, I'd advice you to change your client.

And as a disclaimer to all:When downloading EB, think about others and contribute to the cause of sharing the best damn mod ever: Upload till ratio is atleast one. With utorrent it's easy, just don't terminate the torrent until you have uploaded as much as you have downloaded.

Well I didn't know that, I have Azerus installed since bitcomet stopped working forawhile a few weeks ago. Guess I'll just use that for now on.

Also question about the satraps, exactly what provinces are under the domain of a satrap? For example, will the satrap of say Makedonia lose efficeny if he spends a lot of time in say Athens?

I believe we included Greece as part of the Makedonian viceregal district. The thing is, Egypt, Makedon, and India aren't satraps per se - they are actually small kingdoms that operate within the Arche Seleukeia.
