Actually it's about French guys celebrating having enough food to survive a winter.

And I've got a $27 bottle of California red to go with that prime rib. We might even take a drive to the farm north of here and get an organic prime rib roast. It's about 50% more expensive than the normal stuff, but I'll bet it's good!

Actually, in all truth, it's not really tied to anglo-saxons... Most cultures used to have the harvest festival at the end of fall, in one shape or another, and at various dates (depending on their geographical location).
There are still lots of places where they still have "Harvest Day". So it's not unique or special in any way - just that in some places it's no longer celebrated.
That being said, I know you were talking tongue-in-cheek. :)
Well i just finished my fine harvest feast of Freezer eagle, brussel sprouts, beans, mashed potatoes, and blue berry pie.
