View Full Version : Who will you play as in your first 1.0 campaign?

overweightninja

Well 1.0 is finally coming, just wondering who you guys are most looking forward to playing as in 1.0 (assuming you don't always play the same faction).
Personally I can't wait to see some further development for the Greek/Diadochi factions, but with the smaller factions (hopefully!) being a lot more developed I'm quite looking forward to messing about with Hayasdan and Parthia, although I'm sure my opinions will change as more teasers/information is revealed :D
Anyways your thoughts guys?

Baktria.

Thats my favorite faction so I'll start with them for the start. That only if I'm finished with my EB0.8 Baktria campaign! My plan is to finish that first, then play another faction first. It gets boring to start with a similar situation all the time. And since I started 3 RTR campaigns with Baktria, and now a EB0.8 campaign with them... that would be the case.

If EB1.0 is released before I can finish my 0.8 Baktria campaign, I'll hopefully finish their campaign first, then start with another faction in 1.0 and go back to Baktria after that.

If thats the case, my faction of choice would be KH, Carthage or the arabian tribes (I'm very curious about their style...).

My traditonal realistic-ish roman expansion (not landing in africa till the mid 100's , trying to keep it accurate, while pulling the strings of other factions to get them is a postion for later one (in my current romani campain, after pumping cash into parthia, they're finaly expaning, at a scary pace, and it's 200 BC and I only have greece and italy!)

Makedonia as always !!!!!!!!!

10-06-2007, 15:10
Hopefully I'll have a new video card by the time it comes out. And I think I'd like to play a Makedon campaign again.

The new Seleukid Satrapie system makes me want to try them out too though.

Bactron
10-06-2007, 15:34
I will start probably with Pontos. But seeing how many improvements and new elements there was done for almost all factions I will want to try out as many as possible.

So far I have played prolonged campaigns for Aedui (till 160 BC) and Baktria (till 190 BC) and some short living campaigns for Romans, Selucids and Karthagians.

The way I see it now I am going to have campaigns with these factions among my priorities: Pontos, Pahlava, Saka Rauka, Arche Selukeia,Sweboz then there are some neat futures for Hayasdan (I mean the new system which allows you either acces to greek influenced units or the persian ones) Of course then I am going to play as a Baktria and Aedui again......

I am going to spent lots of hours/days/months playing it!

Arche Seleukeia. That new satrapial system looks just too tempting...

I'll finish my epic Makedonian campaign first, then upgrade to 1.0. How much I'd love to have all these fantastic goodies in my current campaign... When I'm done, I have to do something different than the Maks - I just can't start the same thing over again. So my first campaign will most likely be the Sweboz, they seem to have undergone a major upgrade. And Carthage as a close second. And then... maybe it's time for Makedonia again - or the AS? No, Makedonia rules... :2thumbsup:

Makedon first.
Baktria second.
Getai 4rd
Hopefully a steppe faction 4th.
Hayasdan or Pontos 5th
Qart Hadast 6th
Sweboz 7th
Pontos / Hayasdan / Saba / Saka 8th
Romani 9th

That will keep me busy for the next year

Basileus Seleukeia
10-07-2007, 16:18
Hayasdan all the way. I never played them much with the currtent version, but with their new reforms they practically dare me to play them. And after I've reconstructed Achaemenid Persia, the Arche Seleukeia will have their turn in an epic struggle to reunite Alexander's people! Gonna smash those incestous Ptolemaic freaks for good:laugh4:

edyzmedieval
10-07-2007, 16:36
Ptolemaioi forever. The cavalry of the deserts and the phalanxes of Alexandria will crush everything.

Second comes Baktria (love their mix of greek infantry and persian cavalry) and Getai (my country).

The Celt
10-07-2007, 16:50
I'll try Pontos first as they've gotten some nice improvements since the 0.8 version.(Atleast, I hope they did.)
Then, after I've recreated the Ottoman Empire in ancient times, I'll go further east and see all the wonderful changes made to my Pahlavi.(Second favorite faction to the Arverni)That "new" satrapial system won't save those Greeks from Iranian maces.

That could mean for the Late Project, which I'm guessing is being released with 1.0, as in a preview a couple of months back they previewed 2 "Late Project faction symbols", although I could be completely wrong.

The late project is going to be late, sorry. It's not coming along with 1.0. The Romani are going to be replaced by Bartix.

I'm going to play my MAIN campaign as the Lusotannan.
I've been meaning to try them out, but with 2 highly developed campaigns I have not had the time really. Right now I have a Makedonian one where I have conquered most of Turkey, all of Greece, and everything up to Buridhava and Kallatis. My Karthadast campaign has me in control of about half of Iberia and most of Africa, soon (within 20 years, yes pacifying Iberia is that hard) I will have control of most of Iberia and then I will take the Romani out and WIN!!!!!

SO yeah, I have things to keep me busy. Still, my first campaign will be as the Lusotannan, with a Carthaginian and a Baktrian (or possibly Koinon Hellenon) Campaign to keep me occupied (odds are that I will try the other way this time with Carthage. Take most of Africa for a secure base there and then fight my way into Italia from the South with two good armies. After that I invade Iberia from the North and South).

Actually I too remember this being mentioned somewhere, however I don't think its happening (as current faction slots are full, who would go? There have been many threads on this already.)

However it's irrelevant, for the purposes of the poll, we're just going to have to assume that everyone is still in there :smash:

IIRC factions that were not around or insignificant at the mod's start would be replaced with more relevant factions.

Whether to trust the EB team release time ~ If what you are saying is true, although I'm sure you won't say, but any ideas on how late?

1st campaign will definately be KH for me. As i'm looking forward to the new Spartan Agoge system that will debut in 1.0. After that however will do something completely different in terms of my style of play and have a campaign as the Pahlava or Hayasdan.

What I meant was that IF a faction were to go for 1.0, we don't know who it would be yet therefore I would not know who to exclude from the poll.

Also it's nice to see a nice mix of people both sticking with their favourites and going with something different, really says something both about the quality of the current factions and the apparent quality of all these new changes :beam:

Well, I'll probably wait for a few days before starting a new campaign. Mainly because I'll then catch all the "Faction XX is not working, I can't do that !" and other "CTD with faction YY, what should I do" topics :D

But then, I'd like to play a campaign with the romani. After all, it's Rome:TW and I've never ever completed a campaign with them (and IIRC, they'll get a lot of new things with 1.0)

From what I've heard in the past they're getting a serious shift. New units, a number of reskins and perhaps a few model alterations, and, methinks, a rather different vision of Germania in the period. They may also be getting Ethnicities, new Government Buildings, and "eras" akin to those of the Celts. Though I could be wrong.

Of course I will have to conquer the world as the Romani in my first campaign. New units or not, all other factions will have to bow before the might of Rome!

After that I might try out the Ptolemies or win some lebensraum for the Sweboz....

Personally I voted for the Romans but I've changed my mind since, I'm gonna go Saba. I think most people do try different factions, it's just nice to try out a new version with something familiar the first time through which is why the Romans get so many votes.

There are many people that are ONLY interested in Rome, and they play EB because it represents the Romans well. They will probably never play as another faction because it simply doesn't interest them.

Don't get me wrong: everyone should play a game as every faction at least once. I'm serious. And that is including Rome - especially considering how much work the Roman team has put into the faction.

That being said, to jump into Rome every single time a new release comes out kind of goes against the point of the mod. And besides... doesn't it get old?

Bootsiuv
10-09-2007, 00:35

agreed, teasers do effect our moods. if Foot released Hay reforms preview now they'd probably get twice the votes.
still, whats amazing is how popular Pontus turned out to be considering afaik there were no previews, teaser involving it at all. imo great credit goes to a money/mercenary balancing mod which allowed this faction to be even playable.
go Pontus!

Yeah, you got the Sweboz up there too though, I guess even though these factions haven't had recent teasers or w/e the fact that they're both getting a lot of fleshing out (apparently!) in the new release could mean a lot of people may have wanted to try them for ages, and now finally feel they're complete enough, same goes for Saba, 8 votes is pretty good for a faction that I notice is often played just for a few years out of curiosity instead of for a proper campaign.

EDIT
Uh oh...Sweboz teaser posted a min or two again...prepare for the tide! :D
