hey all, I was wondering if any of you experience this: while I'm playing M2 I often find myself setting a limit to my conquests, such as when playing as Russia I unite Russia (as much as possible to what it is like today border wise) and then I have no urge to go further, rather I just like battling for fun. does anyone have a remedy for that? XD where as in R:TW I'd have fun squashing one faction after the other, I didn't really like the vanilla, so I downloaded Roma Surrectum and loved the united Romans, and I quickly smashed all my enemies laying siege to every city in areas like Gaul and the Balkans all at once (yay massive territorial gain) but getting back on topic, I've had a serious problem with that M2 border thing, except with Milan, I took France, Italy (and it's isles) as well as the HRE's lands. and then pretty much halted. but what annoys me is not knowing how to get such plate mail units like Famiglia Ducale, or the Czar's Gaurd. can anyone help?

Czar's Guard is available in the highest stables in the castle. Famiglia ducale is available from the highest governor building (I think)

thanks, what's the highest castle stable called? Baron's stables?

I think you get an Earl's Stables after that, and finally a King's Stables. You can see all of this in the building browser, I think it also lists what units each building trains.

Yes. The Byzantine Kataphraktoi needs the last stable in the stables line of buildings. The King's Stables. (In Islamic factions it's the Caliph's Stables.) Which is of course after Baron's and after Earl's.

You said you get tired after reconquering a nations historical borders? ^_^ Why not try the Moors or the Byzantines! At one time the Moors controled the mighty Arab empire which spanned from France to Egypt! Or the Byzantine Empire, which at it's height spanned all the way through the holy land an to Alexandria. (Captured mostly by the great general Belesarus.) The Byzantines are also the left overs of the Roman Empire, why not re-conquer the Roman Empire? That would make a fun and sometimes challenging game due to Byzantium's mostly outdated units. Or even the Holy Roman Empire? The Holy Roman Empire one time consisted of all of France, most of northren Italy, and modren Germany. In the old medival I had a fun game conquering the world as England. (Trying to outdo their latter accomplishments of the victorian time period.) In my Russian game in the first Medival I acctually tired to conquer the Soviet Union territories in the medival age, oh how fun was that... And even now in the new game I'm doing something simmilar. (I've got most of the Soviet territories in my current game.) Just some suggestions!

Or.. you could make an empire greater than any that came before it with.... SCOTLAND!!! Lol. Or Portugal or Sicily. Should be fun. ^_^

generally while playing with the turk i expand all the way to the egypt and hungary and then i stop for about 15-20 turns. I built up my cities and upgrade my armies and ofcourse the crusaders are more then enough to keep u busy than u can attack your next target.

How could I have forgotten the Ottoman Empire!

It sounds like you've basically got all the land that consisted of the old Ottoman Empire. (and some if you have Cairo and what not.) The Ottoman Empire would be plenty of fun to make and play as. Bwahaha! Ottomanize America!

I've already got all of the Balkans, North Africa, Egypt, the Middle East, Turkey, Italy (including all the islands) and moving up into the HRE's land

also, that Soviet thing sounds cool, I've been trying to find good Russian screenshots

I find a game more interesting starting as France, HRE, England or one of the Italian factions with the exception of Sicily.
Reason is that regions are bunched up very close together and peace usually tends to be fragile. Expansion thus does not feel as grand as conquering as the Russians, where one extra territory feels like you just doubled your empire.

I.e. I almost finished a HRE campaign recently (stopped at 40 because I got bored after conquering the aztecs and only fighting siege defenses in Europe), but I abandoned my Hungary campaign at 15 regions because expansion just felt boring with Poland, Turkey and HRE as allies and Byzantium east of Constantinople taking several turns to reach by land. The land gain on the mini map seemed large enough and battles tended to become tedious with infantry heavy armies as well as my generals all popping out 90% girls, most of which were princesses. Couldn't even find anyone to marry them off to anymore...

Don't think of it as the Byzantine empire (they didn't). Think of it as the Roman empire, and try to restore civilization to those languishing under the thumb of their barbaric overlords! That would just about win the grand campaign if you restored the entirety of the empire. You'd need pretty much all of Africa, the Holy Land, Asia Minor, France, Spain, England, Italy, and the Balkans.

Now that would make a interesting game! Can you imagine leading your legions against gunpowder troops though? :laugh4: That would be a very fun way to play the Byzantines though. (Of course there would be no question the pope would have to give up Rome. Perhaps he'd have to move into Scotland even. :laugh4: )
