View Full Version : Ooooh the suspense!
Right...I need to vent.
All day i've been refreshing the EB forum in the vain hope of seeing 1.0 released!
Am I safe to stop doing this EB team?, as i'm starting to get strange looks from the missus!
C'mon it's sunday and that's the day (usually) the EB team gives us a little snippet or a preview or something, and with all these teasers going around I thought today might be the day!
Yea I know I need counselling...
...but is anyone else feeling the same?
Deranged Mega
Of course you are safe to stop refreshing. Maybe you'll want to go to bed. You might wake up to a surprise in the morning. Or not.
But is that you just feeding us the wrong ideas bovi. As MAA said, anything not in the first post of a preview should be taken with a pinch of salt. :dizzy2:

Right you just made it even worse for me! Thanks Bovi.....no sleep for me tonight then! :candle:
Actually, that part was quite serious. You should not lose any sleep over EB being released, no matter whether it's being released today, tomorrow, next week, or at the end of the year. I'm sure you should be fit for work/school tomorrow. This goes for everyone here. In fact, as we're releasing using file sharing systems, it will get downloaded faster once a couple of others have it down completely, so you're not losing very much EB time at all by getting that good sleep.
Hm, i have a defraged D:-drive, a fresh install of RTW 1.6, two torrent clients working flawlessly (testet it with some po...err, educational material), i think im ready for EB 1.0. So, are you? :inquisitive:
Good advice bovi

yeah most EB team members want to finish their 1.0 campaigns before we release it to the public. We need to enjoy it's many pleasures in privacy.

So EB 1.0 is both released and not released?
Kind of, I suppose. You know, it's the trousers-of-time-thingy. We're in the one leg, where 1.0 isn't released, and there is this other leg, where 1.0 is released, but it's still the same trouser...
I on't know why everyone thought we would release on sunday, monday is the obvious choice (or is that tuesday - I can never remember).

I suspect it all depends on how many video teasers they have produced. I'm afraid it might be quite a bunch. We had 4 already, Saba, Gauls, Seleucid/Ptolemies and the horse-factions. That leaves Romani, Qart-Hadast, Luso, Sweboz, Casse, Epeiros, KH, Makedon, Getai, Pontos, Hayasdan and Baktria. The release frequency of the previous teasers was 2 days, so it will be 23 days to go until the release of the final teaser, which brings us into November and we all now that nobody releases anything in November since that's too early for christmas presents, so we won't see 1.0 before December 1.
QED.
Unfortunately one assumes, by that logic, that the EB team runs on logic. It blatantly does not.

damn...
Always look to the bright side of things; the waiting gives us ample time to have a clean install and get everything ready so that 1.0 is only a click away.
Now, to help time pass,
How many seeders do you think will we see when the time comes ?
Well, judging by how 0.81a worked, I was the only seed at first, then about 10 more came in the following days, but many of these fell off after a short while. Eventually there were about 4 that I could see with my client, and later I think more have chosen to seed, but I haven't checked. I think I've uploaded 70GB worth of EB by torrent.
Distribution would have been a lot faster if everyone had used torrent then instead of swamping our FTP (exploding our bandwidth limit). Torrent/ED2K should actually be quicker for most people, once more than 10 people get it down and choose to keep sharing. I encourage everyone to keep seeding after getting it down successfully.

Good advice there Bovi! Unfortunatley for poor soles like me in the UK who pretty much all have bad upload speeds, i'm guessing it is going to take at least a week to get down.....oooh the pain!:shame:

I think you could possibly group the videos together by what actions they will take in the game/area on the map, eg. the Audei and the Arveni previewed together and the same with Arche Seleukeia and the Ptolemaioi. So I'm guessing Makedon, Epiros and KH will be previewed together, and also the Romans and Carthagians. That leaves us with Luso, Sweboz, Casse, Getai, Pontus, Hayasdan and Baktria. But going back to the idea about the screenshot competition, I don't think we'll have to wait too long.

400 gb if want it's free
Ok maybe it's not that popular in the VS or other country's
But in Holland we can can down(up)load anything with out a limit
It has something to do with your internet provider
In my case i can download each month 50GB if i want and upload as much as i want
The beauty of this is if you post your file in parts of let's say 40x10mb and you upload 5% repair files everybody is happy
but i think that you guy's don't know this kind of file sharing

Because Filefront is extremely slow? :inquisitive:
Sassem, the newsgroup also sounds like it's only a single host you download from?
Many people think binary Usenet newsgroups are rather like Kazaa (or other P2P programs), but this is not true! There are fundamental differences between the two, even though they can both be used for downloading. You can easily search for something on Kazaa, but what is on offer depends on the people who are connected to Kazaa at that very moment. Usenet newsgroups work differently: someone posts something to a binary newsserver, then all the newsservers exchange data and someone else can download it using his or her news server. How long the files are available on a newsserver depends on the quality of the newsserver.
I understand this to mean it is less reliable, as you are at the mercy of your own ISP? Could you explain this better?
You have to have access to a newsserver in order to download from binary Usenet newsgroups. Some ISP's have their own (free to use) newsserver but you can also subscribe to a payserver like the ones on the left-hand side of your screen. Payservers aren't free but usually are much better (in terms of speed, retention and completeness of files) than a server of an ISP.
Having to pay for decent speed definitely rings an alarm bell in my ear.
huh? filefront is fast, i always get 300+ kbs download speed

Just curious:
What if *someone* who happens to be Rapidshare Premium member would load EB 1.0 up on RS.com - that would be ~4 parts, so it wouldn't be too lavish for non-suscribers to download it that way.
But I've got no idea whether the EB developers have any objections to that. I'm really ignorant how those dealings work, whether the EB team has any agreements with filefront & co, otherwise I'd take a look after that.

As long as we can put up the link on our page to count the downloads, it should be okay. The 4-part place sounds like it's not as easy to do that with. But keep in mind that the more alternative places people download from, the less effective torrent/donkey becomes.

Unfortunately, I have dial-up, so I don't think anyone wants to download from me.
I think I may just have to use your guys bandwidth. :shame:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent
In short, people will be using your upload capacity to download, regardless of how small or big it is, at the same time using other people's upload capacity, and all the while helping you download as well. The file is cut into tiny bits which can be downloaded from anyone and put together once all the bits are collected. The bits you currently have are available to others on a queued basis.
In sum, you get hundreds of people helping you download, maximizing your download speed.

Well, as soon as I've got it I'll try to split it up, rejoin it and see if it works.
If it does, I might upload it and send the links per PM to anyone here who might want to put the links behind the DL-counter - if he wants to. It's just an idea.
But keep in mind that I of course can't do this before I've got it myself, so even if this would work, it would not be the way to go for the Holy Downloaders of the First Hour.
put the links behind the DL-counter
That's just the problem. These would count 4 times as many as others.

Hi Bovi,
Forget about the newsserver thing it's very handy only if people are familiar with it
But what you can do is besides having 1 big file is the following
You can create with a program called Quickpar small repair files for the big file if some one missing a few blocks ( a few bytes or mb's) the program can see this and will tell you how much you're missing the only thing what they have to do is download a few extra repair blocks and run par2 (this will automatic start quickpar) and then it will automatic start the repair
Sorry for the very short and lowlevel explanation but in short it means
people need a free program called Quickpar less then (1 mb )
They have to DL Eb1.0 and a par2 file (wich you created with Quickpar its very simple)
check the downloaded file with the par 2 file fileEB081aFinal.exe.par2 (created with QP only 7 kb or so this small file the have to download also)
If they miss something let say 4 blocks they only have to DL another 5 MB or so (EB081aFinal.exe.vol06+04.PAR2) they DO NOT HAVE TO DL THE BIG FILE AGAIN
When you have DL the repair blocks click the par2 file again it will check it again and see that there are enough repair blocks then it will ask you to start the repair and KLAAR IS KEES
Example of EB0.81final
https://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc73/Sassem/Quickpar.jpg
If you have further questions about this just ask but i think that people with a low upload and/or a bad provider will benefit from this method
ps here is the english version of QP http://www.binaries4all.com/quickpar/
