Boahhh. Thats a hard one. After one week online there are already cheaters? I will never understand those guys. Perhaps they just have to compensate some other weakness http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Don't you see?
Winning is wining whether you cheat or not. Winning is everthing. If I win, it doesn't say he won, but he cheated. It just says I win. The fact of the matter is you could cheat too. If you don't then your just stupid. If you do cheat and win obviously I've been cheated. The goal is to WIN!!
In this venue, it's usualy the 13 year olds. The thing is 13 year olds do grow up with the lessons they've learned. As demonstrated by:
The recent Republican election (USA).
The recent Enron scandal.
The recent Worldcom scandal.
Tanks, Planes and Guns vs. Rocks, primitive car bombs and suicides.
Hmmm.....cheaters seem to always win!
Life's a B, ain't it.

Preach it, brother!
And this is why the clans will end up playing within their own circle.
People who cheat at computer games (especially in multi player) are a plague that should be exterminated.
I would rather lose badly than cheat to win.
------------------
It's getting warm in here...that must be one hell of an INFERNO!
yeah
mutliplayer cheatings sucks. ruins everything, not only does it ruin the game and victory but its not even fun to play with a totally maxed out force because it takes the strategy away from the battle...

Amen to that.

Better be glad that it is obvious that they cheated
Be glad we have a logfilereader soon
Be glad we dont have a competition
And yes, in the end clans will play amongst themselves. The solid and/or talented newbee, being eager enuf to be loyal to his game will end up as a respected player, ready to be added to teh community. and all other noobs, online for just a few games and never to be seen again, are perhaps nice but in the end not teh ones our Khan invests time in/for. and i am sure the cheaters belong to tis last category.

magy may be right, as of now I dont really like playing new people at all for many reasons... to the praise of CA this florin cheat is easily detected in the start up screen, the down side is you must wait for a game, select you men and then see a message as the game starts that a player has "spent more than he should have been able to" But at least you can tell...

and above all every time u host a game or joins one u increase the chance that your pc locks up or u drop to desktop.
most people spent hours onlien for just a few battles, like my Khan. teh value for time ratio is still enuf to play tho.

Cheating sucks, unless somones is desperate to do it in SP.
Nice little story, today I kicked ass, I set the game up, me and my ally were DEF and here was the koku.
ATT 40000
DEF 38000
My ally got crushed because they were a newbie, and they made a mistake with their setup, but I powered through and won, I'm very proud, I may upload the replay.

With the upcoming log file reader, hopefully people will be detered from using any cheat at all. Not to say there wont be any, just knowing they'll get caught should deter the majority.
Changed my mind. You can't cheat online. It's server driven. Must have been a bug.

The logfilereader will show us the exact make-up of our opponent's armies and their costs, so after a game we can check them out to make sure they are valid, right?

Yes, JRock thats what logfiles do.
As for the newbies and unethical players, I strongly recommend we all start using passwords on the games we host. I realize that with the private msg problem the foyer has, a pass is occasionally bound to get out to the public. But I had dozens of great games last night with people I knew who did not to things like bring 16 swiss pikemen and then blame me because we lost.
I have met plenty of nice newbies who are quick learners, but you ultimately never know who is who because they can just leave and change their name. Time will tell. Last night, a kid was very pushy about becoming an Ugly member and eventually ended up saying he would simply show up with an Ugly name. If he does, it will negate all the good games I had with him.
And don't even get me started on the droppers, especially the droppers who still have an army that can be salvaged, and especially when I am kicking ass and could still win the game.
I want to see more players online, I really really do. But I've been keeping a handy little "don't play" list and It has 20+ names so far. Can't wait for ignore to come out.

Can someone clarify this for me: is this people cheating by editing the data files? Is that "someone may be cheating" message coming up on everyone else's screen?
If so, the cheat should be dropped from the game shortly after it begins. Unless they're the host in which case obviously I can't boot them...
Perhaps I should change it in the patch so that if the host goes out of sync - e.g. if they're cheating - then all the *other* players are booted. Thoughts on that?

jeeez what brilliant mind programmed that?
I have always thought a troopstat mismatch will make the player lose sync. If the host is cheating by changing stat values, shouldn't all the rest of the peep be out of sync? So no game for the cheating host.
I think florin cheating is easy to detect and beat. It just the dropping of a cheating player when game starts that is annoying.

Yeah, because by then we've created our armies and taken the time to load the game, etc, and now suddenly the game is short a player.
If only there was a way to checksum the datafiles or something to prevent users with datafiles that don't match the official ones from even joining "pure" games (ones where the host and other players are running official, untouched datafiles...

will "blackmark" work when you get the bugs worked out of the foyer?
are there plans for registered clans or protected tags? ex Ugly...Wolf...Rage...Shade... and so forth.
plz display the ping of each player to the host while we wait for others to join.
the cheat message is not 100% accurate... ive seen a few very well respected members recieve this message...
* The first week of the games release, the games were flawless... No Drops, No Kicks, No Lag. i could host 4v4's on my 56k. the day of european release is the exact day the game went buggy... this suggests a manufacturing flaw or possibly language or version problem...
Now so far i thought this was theory.... last night i proved it.
it was horrible ... drops to desktop and drops in game.... i was on for 2 hours and couldnt get a game to start... finally the same host who had been hosting the last 2 hours decided to pw the game.... as chance would have it all memebrs invited in were from the states.... the game ran perfect... we played different maps and differnt sides... but same 8 people for many more games of no drops, lag,or kicks....same time players in the foyer contined with the fustrating bugs.

If the costs are different (in the unit production file) then hopefully you shouldn't be able to join the game anyway... you should see that "version conflict" message. The cheating dialog is supposed only to trigger if someone hacks the game itself to do something cunning with the army costing code.
It also occurred to me that there won't be time to see the "someone is cheating" message if it's to do with the last player to finish army selection. In that case you'll only find out about it when you hit the battlemap and immediately get dropped.

hmm and what about all those atleths and other sporttypes using drugs? most of them consider themselves as best/winners and we know 99% of them used doping.
