Oblivion, lovely game. My new computer manages to run nearly everything on High with no slowdown, which is a big step up from having to disable nearly everything and run the Oldblivion mod. I still disable grass and use Oblivion Optimization. :loveg:

What Class you play as Kek? I sold my Oblivilon (needed the money you see, now I am going to buy a cheap copy on amazon!).
I was this One Lizard class that was good at Pick Locking (or sneaking, don't remember) and swimming or something. Did quite well really.
Really is a addictive game!!
I'm still sure KingWarman is talking about Morrowind.

ooohhh, he's talking about morrowind, I'm talking about the new one.
Elder Scrolls 4 is Oblivion. Pretty but ultimately soulless. I became a bit of a mod call girl in an attempt to alter the game to something more interesting (and to improve the graphics even further).
I just can't stand the voice acting: only a few voices, all badly done. It became really grating and was the biggest turn off for me. I found myself missing the more traditional text boxes.
I still have it installed and sometimes load it up, only to quit within minutes.

Daggerfall, Morrowind, Battlespire, and Oblivion all had Argonians as playable races, but he is talking about the fourth in the original Elder Scrolls series (Oblivion).
And as for class, I never use a pre-built class. I always custom make mine. I prefer either Imperial or Bosmer (Wood Elf) for my race, and something stealth-oriented for the class.
For my stealth-oriented character, my main seven skills were Armorer, Heavy Plate, Blunt, Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, and Hand to Hand. In other words, the skills I do NOT use. This means I can gain skill in the ones I DO use (Athletics, Blade or Marksmanship, Block, Illusion, Restoration, Sneaking, etc) without worrying about leveling up. I can fully control when I level up just by using the skills I never normally use.
Powerleveling. It's a wonderful thing. :tongueg:

Before I stopped playing Oblivion I had an really really high leveled Nord, with almost everything maxed out, I beat almost every single quest ever in the game, I was the leader of everything, and then I went on a mad rampage, went to EVERY single town and killed everyone. It was fun, having 50 gaurds chase you around the whole map.
2.8 GHz
512 RAM
Radeon X1300/1550 256 MB Card
So I'm really can't imagine how you managed to run Oblivion on high.
Especially RAM (at least gig).
My comp has a bit worse CPU (if you have p4) and ram (if you have ddr400). Video card no match though. And it was just screwed up with G3. Maybe TES4 has more optimized engine, but seriously, it's a one of the most exacting dx9 games! ...

I was playing Oblivion until about a month ago on me 360. I was female Dunmer WarMage and did everthing except for the Daedric Quests, I only have Vaermina's quest and Clavicus Vile's and of course, Hermaeus Mora's quest. Man, I love the Skeleton Key. Don't like battlemages w/ their emphasis on heavy armor. Then I started a new one as a Nord Crusader and got to the Chorrol Gate and never finished it. I never finished Morrowind, however, too much walking, which is why I prefer battlespire/oblivion. I just downloaded Arena two days ago and downloaded an emulator last night. Hopefully tonight I can play Arena b/c the graphics look so awesome (for its time period). I want to be a Bosmer Ranger or maybe an assasin. I think it's funny how Argonians have human hands on the game. I hope the next TES won't be a MMO b/c then I'll will be pwned so bad, not much of a combat person.
Edit:Whoops, I meant Daggerfall not Battlespire. I've never played Battlespire or Redguard

I didn't know Arena was free download either until some guy on youtube said it was free in one of his comments. I've just started playing and I can't seem to make it out of the starter dungeon. This will be my 8th try although I didn't know how to attack until my 5th try. This time I will be a Nord Barbarian, maybe I can bullrush those goblin hordes. As hard as the newbie dungeon may be (I've, as I said, never played Arena), it will pale in comparison to the newbie dungeon in Daggerfall. Unless you are playing a magic user, or choose the Ebony Dagger, the imp you find at the start is virtually unkillable (immune to iron weapons). Unless you just zergrush through to the exit, you'll find that the vast majority of your deaths come from this one dungeon.
It's also the entire reason why you should never, EVER, use a pre-made class. Custom build your class!

I don't think I can custom build my class in Arena...but I will if I ever play Daggerfall. I know that the guy who developed Morrowind took 20 attempts to make it out of the starter dungeon. I finally made it out (on my 9th try;I made it on my 8th try but I forgot to save and was killed by an Orc.) as a male Bosmer Ranger and I've been transported to a city called Emperor's Run and now I have to find a place called Fang's Lair to find the first staff piece. King Warman where were you transported after going through the shift gate. Right now, all I have is a katana and a measly round shield. Hopefully I can retrieve the staff piece by tommorrow;wish me luck...

Keys and Commands
On-Screen Buttons
There are many options that you can evoke while exploring the world of Tamriel. To the right of your face are two rows of buttons. They represent various actions available to you. The button, and the action it represents are explained in the following list.
Mouse General Controls
Left clicking while cursor is an arrow will move you in the direction of the arrow. The further the arrow is from the center of the screen, the faster you will move.
Left clicking an object while the cursor is an X interacts with it, the interaction depends upon whether you are in talk, cast, or attack mode (see below).
Right clicking while left mouse button is depressed will cause you to jump.
Right clicking an object while the cursor is an X identifies it, if it is not generic.
Mouse in Character/Equipment Sheet
Left clicking an item will equip it. (If your class can use that item)
Right clicking an item will give you info on it. (If that item has any info)
You can left click the Spellbook button. This will give you a list of the spells in your spellbook and their current casting cost. Left or Right clicking one of the spells will bring up its sheet and allow you to see the specifics associated with that spell. You may only cast spells from the walk around menu, not from the character sheet.
Unequipable items are in read.
Equipable items are in tan.
Equipped items are in yellow.
Unidentified magic items are in cyan.
Unidentified equipped magic items will be displayed in bright cyan.
Crossed Swords icon—Attack
Clicking this will draw your weapon and put you in attack mode. From here holding down the left mouse button moves you in the same direction as the arrow. Holding down the right mouse button and moving the mouse swings your weapon. You may still jump using the J key. Shift+J will do a standing long jump. Clicking this icon again will sheath your weapon.
Sunburst icon—Cast
Cast a spell. Left clicking the icon will cause your spellbook to appear. You may pick the spell you wish to cast, and the target of that spell.
To save time in recasting the same spell, you can right click the icon again. If you have the spell points, you will cast the last chosen spell again.
Fingers picking gold icon—Steal
Steal something. When this icon is clicked a prompt will come up asking, Target?. Pick the target on the screen. If it is a person, there will be an attempt to pickpocket them. If it is a barrier, such as a chest or door, ay attempt will be made to unlock it. Be careful however, in a city you may attract guards.
Hand grabbing icon—Use
Use something. When this icon is clicked an inventory of usable magic items will come up. pick the item you wish to use and then follow any onscreen prompts that may arise, such as Target? for a ring spell. Note: Only from the 3D walk-around menu can you use an item. If you want to use a healing potion, you must use it from here, as you will be unable to use it from the character sheet.
Snake-staff icon—Player Status
Player Status. Clicking this icon will pause the game and show your current status, and other items such as the date and time of day, or any reputational issues that may affect your status at your current location. Other information on this pop up will be your current condition, health, spells that are currently affecting you, and spells that are currently active.
Parchment with lines icon—Logbook
This icon represents the Logbook, a journal of your travels. In your logbook will be information on any quests you have agreed to accomplish, and province locations of places that people have inscribed onto your continental map. This is an easy way for you to keep track of the things you have promised to do. Be careful, only 16 quests will be recorded at a time! The logbook updates the list by clearing out the oldest entry, so at any time only 16 entries show. If it is really important, print out the logbook periodically. See Getting Quests for further details.
Campfire icon—Camp
Camp icon. Left clicking this icon will cause you to rest. During rest you will slowly regain lost hit points, spell points, and fatigue. You may camp anywhere outside a city's walls. You may not camp inside a city unless you have purchased or snuck into a room in a tavern and are currently inside the tavern where you have that room. The amount you heal per hour of rest is greatly affected by where you sleep. The nicer the accomodation (ie…expensive), the more you will heal per hour.
Automap icon—Automap/Continental Map
Left clicking Map icon:
Left clicking this icon will bring up your automap parchment, upon which will be inscribed all the places you have currently visited. Pay close attention to this map, it may be the only thing to provide you clues when searching for something.
You can make notes on the map by left clicking the map where you wish to place the note and then typing. Hit Enter to get back the pen or right click the mouse button. You can erase notes by clicking the line you wish to erase and then hitting the ESC key.
Left clicking the compass points on the automap will scroll the map so you can see a larger area. Left clicking the center of the compass will center the map on your location. As a note, any locations that are marked automatically by your automap (ie not by you) will be left of the first character in the sentence. Therefore an inn that is marked on your automap will be to the left of the first character in its name.
Right clicking Map icon:
Right clicking the Automap icon will bring up the Continental Map, from which you can travel to other cities, towns, or villages. You can travel to another place from elsewhere outside in the world of Tamriel. You must exit an interior first to travel to another city.
ESC key
Setup menu. This will pause the game and bring up an option menu from which you will be able to do the following:
1) Load game
Loads a game from a save list. This will replace the current game.
2) Save game
Save the current game. Hitting the ESC key will abort this option. You may save up to 10 games. Each game will take up about 500K+ of disk space. Make sure you have the room on your hard drive!
3) Detail Bar
Helpful in speeding up gameplay on slower machines. Adjust the detail level to minimum to maximize the speed.
4) Sound (Volume Control)
Allows you to increase or decrease sound effects.
5) Music (Volume Control)
Allows you to increase or decrease the volume of the music.
6) Drop to DOS
Drops out of the game and into the world of DOS.
7) Continue
Exits this screen back to Arena.
Character portrait—Character Sheet
Clicking your name/face along the bottom row will bring up your Character sheet, from which many options are available. For a complete description see the Character Sheet section.
Mouse Controls
The mouse is your direct interface to the world of Arena. You will use it to define actions or choices while exploring the land. As you look at the screen, you will notice that the mouse cursor can change into one of 10 cursors, either an arrow, a sword, or an X. When the mouse is an arrow and the left mouse button is depressed, you will walk into the direction designated by that arrow cursor. The further towards the edge of your screen the arrow gets, the faster you will walk. When the arrow is a sword, it is used to pick or click icons on the walk around menu. When the arrow is an X, whatever is under the X will be interacted with, depending on the mode you are in. For further explanations, see The below.
Jumping is accomplished by clicking the right mouse button while the left mouse button is being depressed. If you are standing still at the time you will jump straight up. If you are running you will do a running broad jump. The distance you can jump is determined by your Strength, and the Speed at which you were running. Since characters with a higher Speed rating can run faster, they will also be able to jump farther.
The X
Placing your X cursor on a monster or door and right clicking will identify the monster or store. Therefore, placing the cursor on an equipment store's door and right clicking will display the equipment store's name, and will inscribe that name onto your automap for future reference.
While the cursor is an X you can manipulate your environment:
Placing the X on another person and clicking your left mouse button will allow you to talk to them, pickpocket them, or cast a spell at them, depending upon what mode your cursor is in. (Normal, Steal, Cast)
Placing the X on a locked door or chest and left clicking will display your assessment of the lock, or allow you to try and unlock it, depending upon what mode you are in. (Normal, Steal)
Placing the X on treasure and left clicking will give you a picklist of the treasure available for you to pick up.
Consult the previous section on Onscreen buttons to get a detailed description of how each is accomplished.

Oblivion was an odd beast. They managed to fix the issues that ruined Morrowind for me, then introduce new and improved design problems to ruin Oblivion for me.
I can only assume there is a Bethesda gene that lets your overlook the vast amount of issue their games have, and I lack it.
It is probably a virus or a parasite rather than a gene. I enjoyed Morrowind on the second attempt, almost two years after buying it (thank goodness for the Boots of Blinding Speed though!). The first attempt got no where, I didn't like it.
Oblivion I just found rather dull and full of nice ideas executed poorly or not developed enough. A bit wishy-washy. This feeling of "it could be so much better with only a little tweaking" was soothed for a while by mods but eventually all the things that annoyed me got too much and I stopped enjoy myself.
The voice acting is a case in point.
Oblivion: great graphics, great music, and little else going for it.
I was initially very impressed with it at first but once the novelty of great graphics wore off, I started to see the game for what it truly is much more clearly. Shallow fluff.
Way too many map markers that can be instantly teleported to; never sense of getting lost in the wilderness. Main quest is way too short. Side quests are also way too short. The crime system with omniscient and telepathic guards is completely and utterly broken out of the box and sucks all the fun right out of the game. Enemy and loot scaling to your level totally kills any intrigue or sense of exploration or danger the game might have otherwise had. As well as any challenging or memorable areas or encounters that the game might have otherwise had. The NPC character models and voice actors are recycled way too much; the very same characters models and voice actors copy and pasted all over the game and are "supposed" to be different persons in the game.
Ultimately I put Oblivion in the same category of Doom 3: great graphics engine, bad game.

IMO, I think in Oblivion they went for more eye candy instead of content.
I remember in Morrowind, you had like 12 factions not counting smaller ones like the 3 vampire clans, with each of them having a full fledge mission series.
In Oblivion? Just 4 measly factions and far less miscellenious content. To this day, I still haven't done EVERY single quest in Morrowind even though I played it alot for quite a while, but finished basically everything in Oblivion in 60 hours.

Christ, they've got everything. :dizzy2:
Mysticism is so redundant, but I use it anyway. The best mod is the one with the bag of holding, it weighs 5, but you can store infinite items inside it, (I swear it's not cheating :laugh4:).
Edit: The Michael Jackson one is REAL! :laugh4:
Maybe some of you Oblibvion Vets could tell us wich mods to go for? I have Oblivion, but never played it much (yet). THere are so many mods it's impossible to get an overview.
Depends on what type of mods you're looking for, gameplay effects, new quests, new items, graphics enhancers/optimisers, etc.
If you want a wider variety of monsters look for MMM.
MMM? I dl'd something called "the unofficial Oblivion patch". that should fix some in-game errors. Other than that I'd like more of everything ...

The system which makes Oblivion easy to mod is essentially just a souped up version of the modding tools which ensured Morrowind cult status and a long life.
In actual fact some aspects of Oblivion make it more difficult to mod. The voice acting is a case in point: It renders user made content that much harder to make. Unless you happen to know some decent voice actors you have to fill the screen with text while playing a silent voice file. No matter how well written this user content may be it will never blend seemlessly with the original material in the way that many Morrowind additions did.

Thanks for the link.
So I took one of the 8 lists of mods (one of the short ones actually) and decided that I only wanted the "essential" from ballofflames list. That's 33 different mods (only the essentials there are loads of other recommended ones).
So I have to spend a couple of evenings just downloading, installing, etc. before I can even begin play! At least the one mod I have downloaded is one of the 33.....
Edit: I found another list with only 10 "blockbuster" mods. the first one was 400 mb, the second 3 gb...
I'm going for OOO and MMM for now (and the unofficial patch). Sounds like those give a lot of extra to the game. Now I just have to figure out if there are any conflicts and in what order I want to load them. Playing games is a lot of work!

I just can't stand the voice acting: only a few voices, all badly done. It became really grating and was the biggest turn off for me. I found myself missing the more traditional text boxes.
I still have it installed and sometimes load it up, only to quit within minutes.
That's funny, I had exactly the same problem with the previous game. The voice acting was so irritating that after a while I tried really hard not to bump into other characters in order not to have to hear it.
"What do you want, outlander?" To get right away from you!
I heard this had been fixed in Oblivion but apparently it wasn't.
My other major grips with Morrowwind was the really awful UI. I can hardly believe anyone put up with it, and I've heard the UI for Oblivion is worse still!
IMO It's amazing what gamers will put up with...
Here are my experiences for those interested.
It turns out that MMM and OOO don't go well together (without downloading something else and setting that up...). So I went for OOO and some other smaller mods like unofficial patch (conflicts with OOO but I don't care anymore), Stealth overhaul (seems to make my regular hotkeys mixed up), Elven map (can't remember the name - but if you use it you have to change your oblivion.ini to make it work, found out after some swearing at the screan that RTFM works), Phinix dark UI (no real problems with this one actually!) and a time scale changer to make the days longer. And I also added the FREE Fighters Stronghold from Bethesda (free until sunday that is).
The game in itself is beautiful, and a lot of fun. The mods should expand on this and I think they probably do. I'd reccomend only using a few mods though or you will drown. The fact that the hotkeys from Stealth overhaul 1)don't work half the time and 2) disrupt the regular hotkeys makes me want to remove that one. Only it's fun to shoot enemies from where they can't see me :skull:
Maybe I'll reinstall and only use OOO and a couple of new mods like Fighters Stronhold. I fear that my repeated modding makes the game unstable. Haven't had any ctd's yet, but it gives me an error each time I exit.
OMG, they made a combat mod that adds mounted combat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7w4w1gxeDkw)?? I may have to install Oblivion again.

gotta get that mod :beam:
That mod doesn't work for me, I might try it again, loading it last.
Any of you use a hunger mod?
Perhaps someone will be kind enough to provide download link (and description) for all those mods mentioned?
That's funny, I had exactly the same problem with the previous game. The voice acting was so irritating that after a while I tried really hard not to bump into other characters in order not to have to hear it.
"What do you want, outlander?" To get right away from you!
I heard this had been fixed in Oblivion but apparently it wasn't.
My other major grips with Morrowwind was the really awful UI. I can hardly believe anyone put up with it, and I've heard the UI for Oblivion is worse still!
IMO It's amazing what gamers will put up with...
Ah, but in Morrowind the voice was just garnish. It was merely a standard greeting for that kind of character. Actual conversations were in text. In Oblivion the whole of every conversation is in voice. You cannot avoid it! Just think on that, and then think about what this means for the "Radiant AI" NPC conversations!
I gave Morrowind all of about 1 day before uninstalling it and wouldn't bother with any of their newer games after that "experience". Irritating clone characters that all say the same annoying things, a horrible UI and quite possibly the worst combat system I've yet seen, all contributed to this. Having to ask everyone the same lengthy questions then read through the equally lengthy replies while wondering if any of them would reply with anything different was also very frustrating.

Well the best part in Morrowind was the exploration and the environment, which did make up for the faults you stated. Also the main quest was pretty engaging once you actually got going.
Tran - in response to your question about links:

From the Wiki-pages you can find all you need. It has its own list of reccomended mods as well as links to other lists.

After hearing about all these cool mods, I should have bought it for the PC instead of the PS3, but I do admit it is pretty damn awsome on the PS3.If only you could download mods for the PS3 version.

Same with the Xbox.
But that's the price you pay for having a computer that don't cut it.
Ive started tinkering with some of these performance/graphical mods (among others) and I have to say, this game can look truly stunning.

Natural Environments and AliveWaters are pretty good eye-candy mods. Nice to have normal fish in waterways and have seasonal weather patterns. But, Crowded Cities is such a resource drain on my PC.
Those mods you've got there Xiahou, would probably make my PC die.
For those of you wanting to tweak the prettiness of the game, here's an article on some mods and such. Oblivion: Make It Pretty (http://au.gamespot.com/features/6148788/p-2.html). (Almost all of which destroy my PC).
