I downloaded the game sucessfully, but it tells me that I must be a US resident to play. I am a US resident and my Ubisoft.com login I had to create ALSO says I'm a US resident. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,!

The first source for me is a Benelux gamemagazine, I also checked some sites. The offer is real. It mentions advertising, but not that it's restricted to US.

Ghost recon was shipped with my graphics card {BHC}KingWarman888. I played SP for a while, it didn't allow me to go online for some reason.

I uninstalled it after some days.

I uninstalled it before completing it, this game needs some polishing. There's some fun, but also frustration (it feels like a console to PC port).

Hello Ichigo,

Nope it's the same titles. I downloaded FarCry a month or two ago.

Last I heard - a month or so back - they had closed the registration on these free games. I wonder if it has re-opened? I spent days downloading Far Cry and then never bothered to register it before they unexpectedly closed the offer. :wall:

Ah ok. Was the SP any good Tosa?

The original Ghost Recon is really good SP. As TosaInu says, there are some frustrations. It is effectively one shot one kill and so often you don't see the guy who killed you. In a way, that's a big strength as it feels very realistic. But it hurts the gameplay, as it encourages you to keep reloading and so "learn" the map the hard way in order to beat it. There are a few "timed" missions or equivalent, which require you to do things almost perfect to succeed. I end up saving every minute or less to get through them (they may last only 4 minutes).

However, there are also some very open, non-linear missions that give you great freedom and are a joy to play. If you want, you can get by with just your sniper, but the most impressive results are when you maneouvre your three teams into firing positions and wipe out the opposition in a burst of disciplined cross-fire.

The SP campaign is very strong, IMO. There is a bit of RPG type stuff going on, as you choose a team, build up their stats with experience and unlock specialists with cool weapons.

The campaign is a series of about 18 missions, linked by a passable story. The great strength of it is the diversity of missions and settings. Sometimes you are fighting in a pitched battle, other times you are breaking into a prison camp at night. You fight in snow covered mountains, submarine pens, cities, swamps etc.

Highly recommended and you can't quibble at the price.

Someone said you can just register with Ubisoft with a US location. They don't check.

Why did they make them only for American people in the first place?

I put US in my ubisoft registration, but Far Cry setup still fails saying I must be in the US to plat the game.

I completed downloading FarCry yesterday.

It seems it was a Labour Day/week-end (?) promotion or something and doesn't work anymore. The same is true for the other Ubisoft games I guess.

Sorry for raising hopes.

C&C doesn't appear to be the full game, you need a cd with the exe to run it.

TosaInu
10-10-2007, 12:28
Hello Geoffrey S,

The zip contains two ISOs. The game had two CD's: one for NOD and one for GDI. You use a CD-burning application that can handle ISOs and burn the two CD's yourself.

Note: do not just burn the ISOs to a CD, but tell the program that it has to use those ISO's to create a CD.

Seems the CD burn tool in XP can pull that off too:

That's easy enough to get around, if the offer's still open (just grab a US-based proxy ~;))

I suspect that they've got the restrictions in place because in some nations (such as Australia) the legal status of in-game advertising is very much in question, and they don't want to have to test it over this ~:)

A small but devoted community still plays it relgiously, yes it's very good. Problem is that they can dream every map, you will never know what shot you. Ghost Recon is a 'stealth' shooter, a methodical player's wet dream. And it still looks awesome.

Merged, so the older original thread gets a bump.

I'll take this opportunity to post a public service reminder: anyone who has not played Prince of Persia: Sands of Time should get over to Ubi's free games list and download a copy. Now. Gorgeous, gorgeous game.

That restriction is still in place? Ick!

POP: Sands is well worth buying for the ultra-cheap prices you can find it for - heck, it was well worth the full price. It's a beautiful Arabian Nights-esque work, filled with acrobatics and sword fighting, with a story that has a neat idea which you won't spot until you are near the very end. At ~8 hours per playthrough it's short and very sweet. I've played it through 3 1/3 times, which makes it one of my most-replayed console games.

It seems noone noticed that Rise&Fall: Civilizations at War (http://files.filefront.com/RF+Civilizations+at+War+Sponsored+by+US+Air+Force/;11992115;/fileinfo.html) was released for free sponsored by the US Air Force.

And no, I have no idea why the Air Force would sponsor an RTS.
