Well i consider myself a decent modder, but this is driving me crazy. :wall:

I'm working from a pretty heavily modifed version of the kingdoms retrofit mod, including several mods from others and a lot of tweaks i made myself. after weeks of effort, i thought i finally got the thing working, only to be shown by the mod god that i was still out of favor. :egypt:

The battlemap works fine and the campaign map even loads without problems, but whenever scotland tries to take a settlement, the game CTDs with the all-to-familiar "M2TW has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit."

I set up the system log to track errors, but nothing specific turned up. Does anyone know which erroneous file could be causing this?

More information required.

1. Are you playing Scotland or is the AI
2. Does this occur to any other faction
3. Which faction are you playing when this occurs (considering you answered no to 1) and does this occur if you play another faction
4. Does it occur when laying siege, assaulting or post-assault
5. Does it occur when scotland assaults/lays siege/post-assaults an AI settlement, a human settlement, or any
6. Are there errors or CTDs concerning field battles involving scotland
7. Does this occur to a specific settlement or any
8. Does it occur when starting another new game with the same or different faction for the human player

To answer your questions,

1. dosen't matter - happens to both
2. no, just scotland
3. again, dosen't matter... ALWAYS happens
4. it happens the moment the victorious general moves into the settlement
5. occurs to ANY settlement scotland takes, regardless of faction/AI association
6. I've done some testing and nothing appears wrong with scotland on the batttlemap
7. As stated before, this CTD occurs at ANY settlement
8. Yes, it occurs regardless of the faction I am playing

In that case, you want to check if you modified following files with entries that may affect scotland:
campaign_script
descr_buildings
campaign_db
faction_standing
settlement_mechanics
descr_recruitment

any texture and graphical files

I tired what you suggested, but it didn't help. I tested the text files that i edited but they seem to be fine, so that leaves graphical files. The only problem is that I downloaded Burrek's Knights and Knaves so I'd have a TON to look through. But Burreks K&K only affects battlemap stuff, right? They all work fine.

How did you test?

The way to test it would have been to firstly remove all of the files and start a new game to see whether the problem occurs. If not, then one of the files caused it, in which case you'd want to add them back in 1 by 1.

If on the other hand removing all of these files did not remove the error, you'd want to think of other files you have modded and do the same.

yes thats how i tested, by removing the files individually and then starting a new game, and none of them seem to be the problem. And how could texture files for the battlemap crash the stratmap, especially if they work fine on the battlemap?

They normally don't, but I'm thinking maybe the game doesn't like converting one banner into a scottish banner (which is what happens when scotland takes a settlement).

In any case, do as I suggested in terms of removing the files summarily rather than individually. You want to eliminate a large bunch instead of pieces as there might be more than 1 file causing the problem.

ahhhhh, that makes sense...

So what files are relevant to banner conversions?
I'd rather narrow this down instead of shuffling through everything i've modded (which is a LOT)

I don't do graphical modding so I don't know. Still, I think its good practice (and helps you learn!) if you remove batches. Besides, that's time better spent than waiting for people to actually respond to your thread.

good point, lol!
