View Full Version : New Kingdoms multi-faction PBM

This poll is just to see which campaign people would like to do on the PBM I am planning. The basic rules are each player will select a faction and will have the leader (eg, King) as their avatar. This player would then invent their own rules to run the faction by, such as duchies and counties in the KotR, and which title will be given to the person who actually plays the game (like the chancellor in KotR) and how this person is chosen. Once all factions have a leader then new players will join existing factions and chose a family member as their avatar. This was really just supposed to be very similar to the KotR except that inter faction relations can become much more intense and meaningful and nobles can betray their faction by joining another (this could just be represented as them moving to the other factions lands and helping them out as I am not sure how bribes work in hotseat).

The campaign itself won't start for a very long time (probably at least a few months or so) as I need to make sure every leader has their rules sorted out and made fair (Other players can check them) and I will only start when there are at lest three players per faction.

Please let me know on your thoughts on the whole idea and whether you would like to join :beam: .

Edit: my preferred choice would be the Teutonic campaign because there are quite a few politically different factions and they are all very close together so wars wouldn't take long to develop. The crusades and Britannia campaigns are good backups if more people prefer them as they have less factions meaning that it would be quicker to play. I am strongly against the Americas though because Some factions would be left out and some have massive advantages.

PLEASE ONLY VOTE IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING PLAYING!

I don't have Kingdoms, but I wanted to comment that this is a superb idea. I hope you carry it off, and if I end up getting Kingdoms in the coming months I'll be joining.

bump and the campaign will be the Teutonic one. You can now sign up for which faction you would like to rule and start drafting rules. Looks like Gibsong has already got started on the Teutonic order :). I'll take the Kingdom of denmark and will start on the rules now.

alright, i'll do this. this will be quite the long campaign - awesome

i say one half be teutons, the other half be lithuania. simple. that way we dont have too many factions taking 2 days each turn, etc. u got a good number of players for each faction. its nice, its nice. only thing is, we're going to have to autoresolve battles instead of delegating em.

I get stuck with something bad again?

I call for the HRE myself.

I think have 4 factions maximum.

Yes I agree that there should not be to many factions and think four would be a good number. Seeing as three are already taken, we could add Lithuania to make the Teuton's game more interesting and I shall keep Denmark and the HRE in it. Once some more interest is expressed we can start up faction specific threads and I advise you to start thinking about the rules that apply to members of your faction, as Gibson has already done as this willl speed up the process of actually starting the game.

final :bump: before I make the sign up thread

oh and about autresolving battles you can change it so battles with the AI (or at least offensive ones) are player controlled and we could do inter-faction battles over multiplayer or autoresolve, depending on what people would prefer.

I think interfaction battles should be autoresolved.

Unit sizes and such should be decided.

Ill start thinking of rules for the HRE.

okay but we'll have to rely on the 'chancellor' or counterpart not to cheat. Are you okay with fighting battles Vs the AI still and I think large unit sizes would be good unless anyone has a slow computer. I'll start the sign up thread when these things have been decided.

I'll take Lithuania, if it's still available. I don't have Kingdoms just yet, but I will ahve by the time the game commences.

I think as long as a trusted player is doing it, it is ok.

We have myself as the HRE, Bob as Denmark and Gibsong as the Teutonic Order?

I think limit it there even. (unless i missed someone calling for a faction already.)

okay all 4 factions have a King/leader now. I will ask you to create your faction specific OOC threads where people can sign up and the rules are laid out (once you have started making them - I am going to borrow heavily from KotR btw)

edit: just to clarify

BtG: Denmark
Peevergreen: HRE
Gibsonsg: Teutonic order
Ignoramus: Lithuania

I'd be in, as here there's no all ruling dictator that decides everything that happens

As Novgorod I guess

the first King decides the ground rules for their faction and then subsequent Kings can make changes depending on what the ground rules are. Instead of creating a new faction have you considered joining an existing one as a Prince or Family member, I am now considering giving up Denmark to the AI as too many factions will slow the game down a lot and we most likely won't have enough players for them all.

edit: sorry I misinterpreted your question, I'm not really sure about that yet but if someone is really making other players have a bad game then I will politely ask them to leave or change their attitude, but if it is your faction then you make the rules.

I have decided to take Denmark off the playlist to avoid there being too high a general/player ratio and will be taking Prince Nikolaus of the HRE provided peevergreen will let me have some say in the rules :).

Edit: first post edited to show who is playing as what faction.

sorry for the triple post but editing won't bring this back to the top :P. Okay Peevergreen, Ignoramus and Gibsong (you already have one actually) can you please now create your faction OOC threads where people can sign up and the rules will be specified, you can just post what you have done now and update it as we go along.

I don't see any OOC threads appearing, why not? :laugh4: I'll also create a master OOC thread where all players can speak to each other and faction 'chancellors' (or whatever they are being called) can say when the save is ready for the next faction.

Also Stig; have you decided which faction to join yet?
