View Full Version : EB v 1.0 EDU - switching between campaign and custom battles
Good news: download and installer successful. Everything works fine .
Bad news: no indian elephants in custom battles.
At all. I can't figure out, why, there's no attribute "no_custom" in edu :help:
(they do exist in epeiros campaign though)
edit later: everything's fine all you need to do is switch to custom battles edu
Two things: have you tried the Custom Battle EDU?
The engine picks 100 units; apparently at random.... and those make for your CB roster.
...A question: Can somebody hold my hand and bring me through how to unlock all the missing units for the custom battle? It is irritating to want to play a Baktria custom to find that Heatiroi Kataphraktoi aren't there, or Getai without Agema Orditon...
You have to copypaste their entrys at the start of the edu. dont forget to keep only ONE entrance at a time. two wont work, error message.
Does anybody knows anything about this 100 unit limit for custom battle and is there any solution of the problem other than constantly rewriting EDU or creating two EB folders, one for campaign and the other for custom battles and multiplayer?
Perhaps, there's a way to increase this limit?
Best regards
MiniMe
In another thread after the .8 release I posted code for a batch file that would swap in the appropriate EDU then launch the game but nobody seemed to care much
Edit: Nonetheless I've just updated it for EB 1.0 :)

Where is it? Pray tell! :D
Edit: see this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93589) in the Unofficial mods section for the code & instructions.
:jawdrop:
...
I'm impressed...
...
manythanx, I'll try it
20 minutes later:
It works, it works!
thanx again!
we still have to restart rome for this to come into effect right? That is the biggest thing i dont want to have to do as with the new EB it takes about 5-10 min for my comp to load EB :(. It's not overwhelming amount of time but terribly annoying if your playing MP on and off throughout the day and the campaign at other times
As far as I know the RTW engine only loads the EDU on startup so yeah, have to restart when changing.

That's good work, Hoom - far better than mine I must admit. As a matter of interest, could you see any way a file could be placed in a certain place via a batch file, the game run and THEN the same file replaced again (with the original file) when the game is quit without the player having to run a second "clean up" batch file?
Way beyond me sorry but it would be nice if someone knows :balloon2:
Edit: ...Though you could modify the batch file to set for Campaign Mode automatically each time you run it, before it displays the menu? I can do that easy enough...
OK so upon reflection, making a series of programs & other command functions run one after the other is exactly the reason that batch files were invented.
So with the ever useful aid of Google & specifically the first result I get for Batch File http://www.computerhope.com/batch.htm
I've worked it out
This code chops out the menu & will automatically configure for Custom/Multiplayer then start EB.
The batch file will stay open in the background while you play EB & then reset back to Campaign Mode when the game exits.
Edit3: see the above post for simple version code
I've also added some minor updates to the menu version above.
Edit: chopped out some more redundant leftovers of the menu system
Edit2: fixed chopped one to many lines...

^ I have a HUGE problem. Apparently my Vista software is blocking the program's attempts to swap EDUs... >.<
(Un?)fortunately, I have no Vista to test on.
Its quite possible that batch files work differently or not at all on Vista.
Does the batch file run at all? If so, is there an error message it gives when it tries to copy?

Djeeez... Not only do you invade another semi-relevant thread in the tech help forum with all those smilies, but here in a completely unrelated thread too?

Sorry, I have found no help on this problem and I can't figure it out. there are only two threads for reforms that I can find and I have been looking all day. This one and the other one I posted on. I just need some help.

Can't you just switch the files manually? It takes less than 10 seconds. Or does this program allow you to switch them in-game?
I made a thread for the EDU switcher (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93589) in the Unofficial Modding section.
Best to refer to that for any further updates/info.

You sure can just switch the files manually.
This code automates it for those of us who are lazy or have issues with technical stuff (& takes a fraction of a second instead of 10 :)).
You could use the menu driven version to switch EDU while the game is open (could do it manually too) but since (as far as I know) the game only reads EDU on startup, it wouldn't do you much good.

Move your EB install from \Program Files\ to lets say \Games\ folder, or whatever you like.
Then you will be able to use the switch script.

See the EB Install Guide (follow the link in my sig for the reason why).
