View Full Version : A Democratic Game for EB

This is a copy of the thread I've posted in TWC. I'm posting it here + a link to hopefully reach bigger EB audiences.

Given the great success of the AAR "You are the Senate" in the RTR section, I thought it would be convenient to make a similar AAR here in the EB section. EB has a great share of popularity, as shown by the number of downloads of the latest versions, so this would be a good idea to gather EB fans from all corners of the earth to play a common, democratic game.

It wouldn't be necessarily restricted to Rome or any historically "democratical" power of the Ancient Age. On the contrary, the Democratic game would be a change in the "external" regime of the game. Elected officials would control a certain number of provinces, give orders, make plans and discuss with the Citizens. The Citizens would include anyone wishing to have a voice in the Democratic Game; they would be registered, and receive the basic rights specified by a set of rules, the Constitution. Then we could make different levels of representation according to the needs and limitations of the game.

My basic idea, however, is that we make a democratic governement for a game. This would include choosing a faction, then ruling it by vote and the will of the majority, with elections, ideologies, controversies and the whole. This way the citizens and the elected officials would not only choose democratically their officials but would have a say in all the affairs of the kingdom, and an AAR would be posted showing the per turn progress of the game. Elected officials would hold a special amount of power, but they would still bow to the will of the people in a way that can be discussed in detail and voted.

This is my idea. Is the EB crowd interested in gathering, starting a new EB game and ruling democratically? Let's hear the voices!

We're already discussing doing one like one that we did in .81 in the AAR section of the EB forums here

Where? This is not exactly a Succession Game, but rather a democratic one. It wouldn't be necessary to play it directly unless you choose to, but you can still vote and give your opinions.

Well, it's not very long. But my idea is to basically setup a government and a citizen body. Anyone can register at the citizen body and get the right to vote and discuss decisions. We can elaborate further through discussion, but my idea is that we create something similar to a real democratic government and use it to play a common EB 1.0 game, as a pre-determined faction also subject to common vote.

as i remember i was gonna do one of these, and it had HUGE feedback. but to be honest,i had a long hard think and decided it would be muuch too hard to properly pull off, especially as i have an in-ability to carry out orders. IM the boss! but this sounds pretty kl.

Well, you could run for governor or another official if you like to do things so :). And with enough feedback, we could make even a subforum for this game...

Plus what about political parties? According to the ideology of each citizen, they can make a common group and present candidates for an election. Maybe we could give officials names such as "Proconsul" and "Satrap"to add more flavour.
