just a few questions about the new 1.0 release(great great job by the way! the battle map looks exceptionally great XD):

1) Hellenistic Cataphracts for Seleucids: how can they be recruited? i've build the barracks necessary,, and it also says that it can built cataphracts, but they don't show up in the the recruitment pool. do they need some sort of reform?

2) what does the new bit info on the description on the barracks mean? the one that says "+- ... enables/disables reformed units"

3) Hysteroi Pezhetairoi for Macedon: how can i recruit them? do they also require reforms?

thanks ^_^

1) You need to fulfill the requirements for the Cataphract Reforms first.... That should be listed among the FAQ.
2) That's a flashy new trick which enables us to code reforms much much more efficiently. The barracks come with a -1 penalty; hence the reform unit can't be recruited; and when you hit the reforms a marker is placed through script which gives a +1 bonus. The -1 & +1 cancel; hence you can recruit the unit.
It's something that was discovered only 'recently'; and we did not invent it: IIRC it was some genius over at FATW (Fourth Age TW).
3) Indeed, they too require reforms. Again, the requirements should be listed among the FAQ.

Did those reforms not get turned fully dynamic then? (Assuming it's Vanilla Marian Reforms you speak of.) Let's see if I can dig something up. Else you'd have to wait till a city in Italia apart from Roma reaches Imperial size. Not that it take that long: that should be somewhere 260-250 BC -ish.

Actually, the FAQ has no information on the Macedonian reforms. I, too, am wondering what needs to be done in order to recruit those wonderful Hysteroi Pezhetairoi.

Cheers.

It hardly seems fair to tell all the Romani, Saka, Hayasdan, Seleucid, Pahlava, Carthaginian, Celtic, and Sweboz players what needs to be done for their reforms, but to leave the Macedonians in the dark. I just want my spiffy-looking Hysteroi Pezhetairoi. :wall: No love.

Cheers.

Well, we have posted it about a thousand times on the board. You could either play and find out on your own or use the search function.

In fact, it is probably more fun to play and find out.:beam:

I'll spoil the fun and answer:
All reforms that aren't listed in the FAQ are not actual reforms (you don't have to do anything) or they are tied to the Vanilla Marian Reform even or "March of Time" event (Imperial Palace in non-Roma central Italy).

In this case it is the later.

Isn't the vanilla marian event a little too fast? It could be slowed down or it will just continue to trigger after 15 years of campaign? :skull:

It's as fast as the Romans make babies, I hear city mod drops the birth rate, that would probably help.

Ah, thank you.

My apologies, Abou. I ran a search for "Hysteroi Pezhetairoi" (on the assumption that they would, in fact, be mentioned by name in any relevant discussion of the Macedonian reform), but couldn't find anything. Hence this bump.

Cheers.

15 years? I got my hysteroi pezhetairoi in 215 BCE in my campaign. I guess the war between Rome and Epeiros is to blame for that though. Not that I need hysteroi pezhetairoi. My pezhetairoi all have 4 or more experience, so they've got better stats then unexperienced hysteroi pezhetairoi.
