I just bought total war eras and have recently been playing campaign mode. I play for a while, but then a window pops up with a debugging error and says I must close out. This is very frustrating because I normally have to start over. How can I prevent this from occurring?

Saving a lot will of course prevent some of the harm. But there must be a better. I bet some people with knowledge on windows will be able to help you out.

Good luck!

It doesn't help saving. My game has the same problem, but after each time I load, it crashes exactly at the same point. So I have to restart the game, and it's really annoying.
I stopped playing because of it.

Hello,

Does it crash in the battles or on the campaignmap?

It normally crashes in the campaign map, but I've never had it crash in game.

I had some crashes in battles, that had to do with videomemory iirc.

Does it crash for a specific factions turn? Does it crash for all the available campaigns?

It crashes at specific times and when I save and restart, it does it at the same location.

Hello odanobunaga,

It's a standard/vanilla campaign or a custom one? Does it also happen when you play another vanilla campaign? It could be an error in the starpos file/or something in there that turns out to be an error for your PC.

It's standard campaign, It happens with every faction I try, it also happens on medieval total war, but I've only tried one faction on that.

Hello OdaNobunaga,

MTW is doing that too? I doubt it's a problem with corrupt campaigns then. Graphics and sound are a suspect. What kind of graphics/sound card are you using?

Nero 6 can cause the debug error. It appears to be caused by the version of the DivX codec used by Nero 6. Check out this thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=66964

Crashing on the campaign map can be caused by the audio codec. STW requires that Windows Media Player be the default codec used for mp3 sound files. I had problems with STW locking up, and I solved it by uninstalling the Ace MegaCodecs package which had changed the audio codec that Windows Media Player was using. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=68148

Puzz3D is right, if you have Nero 6 installed that is probably the problem. I posted up a fix for this somewhere if you search this forum you should find it. Also certain video card drivers can cause some unexpected CTDs. What are your system specs?
