View Full Version : Spoiler Guide for Reforms Please
Could anybody help me with the new reform requirements? Theres so many new ones and its hard not knowing how to access them. Thanks in advance.
I would also want to know, if the requirements for the roman reforms are still the same?

I'll update the FAQ when I find out the triggers (I don't know the new one, myself).
For the celts, it has to do with building temples and markets.
For Carthage it has to do with time and specific territories owned
The Romans remain unchanged.
Hayasdan has to do with building up infrastructure in your capital.
KH and Mak are still tied to the Vanilla Marian Reforms.
Sweboz has to do with conquering territories. Blitz gave me the detailed info on that one and I'll put it in the FAQ tommorrow. :2thumbsup:
Okay thanks MarcusAureliusAntoninus (nice long name there). Do you happen to know what's required for Pontos, Hayasdan and/or Baktria to get their late cavalry generals?

if anyone can point me to the AS Kataphrakt reform requirements (in English, not script code as I am not a modder)...I looked on the FAQ and didn't find anything and am assuming that they aren't still tied to vanilla ref's.
thanx in advance

I believe the general's bodyguards change with the vanilla marian reform.
I think you have to lose a battle against Pahlav cataphracts (and have a general in the battle who survives?) to get the Cataphract reform.

but why would you want to lose though? :whip:
makes no sense.

Losing is the best (and sometimes only) way for a military to learn that someone else is doing something better than they are. Nothing quite like second place to make you try harder. If your traditional ways still let you win, why mess with them?

If you win, that proves that your military is superior and doesn't need to be changed. You won without adopting their style of warfare, why would you adopt an obviously inferior military system.
Though, looking through some stuff, I'm not sure if you actually have to lose. I think it is actually something like: have several different generals fight against cataphracts...

In the last 2 builds AS can build Kataphracts without any reforms, so what is the need for a reform?
In v1.0 there is a loading screen with a picture of a Bactrian companion Kataphract(nice pic Nate) is this a body guard reform unit or what, because it's not in custom battles?

That was changed with this release. The need for a reform is historical accuracy, as they could not build Kataphractoi before they started to fight the Parthians.

The Kataphracts are tied to reforms even in 0.8, you can't build them until the vanilla reforms roll around.

Do a search for "Hetairoi Kataphraktoi".
I don't believe Baktria have any reforms, although I may be wrong.

Thanks overweightninja, I should of thought of checking the site, those EB's are nicely up to date.
Still a tad lost on this one:
In v.81, I could build AS Kataphracts as soon as the correct barrack was ready, the same for v1.0, I have seen them listed in the building which I have only just started to build, where as in v.74? they weren't listed until a decent General had lost the right battle(at least that's how I got the trait for my General).

You had to wait for the vanilla marian reforms to get cataphracts as AS in v0.8x. You must have just been lucky and gotten the reforms earlier then your upgrade to your barracks.
Even though cataphracts are listed on the recruitment list, they cannot be recruited once you complete the MIC. A trick is used so that you won't have to upgrade your MICs after the reforms as you have to do with the Romans or Celts. (Thanks to FATW helping us with this trick!)

No, losing the battle is essential. It has to be a big loss too, with high casualties not only on your army as a whole but with the general's bodyguards as well. On the other hand, you don't have to lose to Parthians specifically, you can lose to Baktrian or Armenian armies as well.

actually, in my AAR, my battle for Nisa made me undergo drastic changes. no more phalanxes, just a lot of Persian Archer Spearmen, HA, and cavalry- even though i won that battle

Was it a Pyrrhic Victory? Because those don't really count. :clown:
