Salve EB team,

First of all, for two days i can barely sleep and rest of my time planning my Pontos campaign strategy. Yesterday i was constructing a building named Satrapeia Philhellenike in my dream. EB has entered even in my dreams! ::2thumbsup:

I just want ask you a short and simple question. As a Pontos faction can i able to train "Klerouchoi Phalangitai". Because i have Ephebia Phrourike Kai Skeuotheke building in my capital Amaseia but i cannot see them even in my list and plus when click on next tier of the recruitment building i can see Chalkaspidai and the other elite units but there is no medium class "Klerouchoi Phalangitai".

Please help help me or guide me about this disturbing problem. My enemies come with Agemas, Klerouchos and other badass phalangites and elite troops. I can't save my country with the Pantodapoi Phalanges.

Help

The unit does not represent katoikiai established by the Pontic kings, but phalangite katoikiai established by the Seleukids or Ptolemies and overtaken by Pontos. The regions where you can get them are Phrygia, Lydia, Syria, Phoenicia, and the a couple regions in lower Egypt. I think they're in the lvl 4 Regional MIC.

Thing is, for a Pontic king in the 3rd century to have any chance against the Seleukids, they really needed to use the military populations of Anatolia. So you've got the Galatians first, then some Thraikians in Bithynia, Hellenes in Pergamon and a few others, your reliable medium phalanx of Klerouchoi Phalangitai down in Phrygia and Lydia, your heavy cav in Kappadokia, and some more troops down in Karia and Lykia etc. Great unit list, but you gotta expand to get 'em.

Excellent support fellas! I really appreciate this.

Paullus, Sardis is mine and Homeland Province made by me. Pergamon (Satrapy 2), Halikarnassos (Satrapy 2) Ipsos (Home) and Side (Home) at west. East Sinope (Home), Amaseia (Home), Mazaka (Home), Tarsos (Home) and Antiocheia or Antioch (Home).

I mean can i able to recruit them in only Home Type I provinces or as a regional unit in Satrapies too. I guess they are Type I class troops and need at least Ephebic building.

By the way great unit list indeed Paullus. Anatolia just like melitng pot of different cultures. Celtic, Hellenic, Steppe, Persian. It makes a perfect army composition formula. You can create and practise tons of tactical varieties. Just need to use your imagination.

Thanks a lot again fellas.:2thumbsup:

Subedei, playing as Pontos at Hard diffuculty (like me) dancing with the devil in hell. You just start with only one region. A small army, lack of resource plus two huge empires Ptolemaoi and Seleukids are surround your south. Rebels are so strong and have good units like Naked Wildmen (Ancyra). You have no credit to make a mistake. Every step should be thinked twice. You need to find weak points of your area and expand your territory for more cash flow and better troops.

If anyone wants to sweat and feel constant danger i strongly recommend them to play as Pontos.

Spoiler
Attack the Seleukid first, capture Mazaka first then move to the west Anatolia and capture Ipsos and Sardis

Oh...and yeah, you'll do better to build type III and IV gov't as Pontos in most cases. Type 2's will also get a good mix of regional and factional units, since Pontos can build higher regional MICs in their I and II gov'ts than other factions can. Something like:
govt fact reg
I 5 2
II 4 3
III 3 4
IV 2 5

That may not quite be right, but its something like that. And as long as we're talking about all the awesomeness in Anatolia...any thoughts on the Uazali and Keltohellenikoi? There are several more Anatolian units en route, too.

i highly recommend Pontus to whoever havent tried it. it rocks big time and challenging as only very few other factions out there.

I tried it on occasion back in 0.8x. Kinda interesting, although it was actually almost too easy to blitz the Seleukids entirely out of Asia Minor at the beginning...

Probably not quite so anymore, what with the general evil sorcery the EB team have included to beef up garrisons around the player. :beam:

Hey Paullus, shouldnt Makedonia be able to ESTABLISH these military settlers? with like the 2nd level of the "colony" for them, since they are establishing military settlers, so shouldnt they be able to recruit these Klerouchoi Phalangitai in places they have these colonies?

We decided not to, since the Makedonian military system operated on a somewhat different basis from the Successor system further east. Its something we may debate further, but for now, klerouchoi will be limited to settlements occupied by the Ptolemies and Seleukids. Its possible the Makedonians would have beefed up some of the regions with more katoikoi (settlers) or additional katoikiai (settlements), but pretty unlikely they would have extended the katoikic system into lands where they won't already get access to it.

Oh, okay, Im no expert on Makedonia even though I love the faction  , I dunno just a suggestion, I think it would give EB more of a "What if" sense like you aim for, and I dont think it would be too far fetched since the other Diadochi did it too, plus Makedonia was, of course full of makedonians so if they had expanded eastwards then I'm sure they would have done the same as the Seleucid's, and of course this could also be available to the other diadochi too if they were to expand to places where they hadn't already set up makedonian military settlements, maybe with like a huge cost and population decrease and build time, or at least moreso then it currently is, or jus another step on the Colonial build ladder.

but thats just my 10cents.

Well EB doesn't really go in for a completely 'what-if' system. If we did we'd let factions recruit their entire unit roster everywhere because 'what-if' they colonized or whatever. More to the point though Makedonia was pretty depleted in terms of population by this period due the exodus east and a few generations of endemic and crippling warfare and invasions. They probably didn't have the people power to send huge numbers of military settlers east and wouldn't for quite a few generations.

but... then why do my cities all have +3% population growth? :laugh4:

Lotta empty space to grow into after the Galatians and such, I'd imagine. :smash:

hmm, I should issue a decree commanding all men to have at least 5 sons... :laugh4: I bet they would like that.

...I think I should go sleep now. :sweatdrop:

hahaha...well, the point is: even if they expanded katoikic settlements into the newly conquered east, the places we would reasonably expect to see significant numbers of settlements are the same places which already have those settlements.
