i was lookin at the edu today and saw hetairoi kataphraktoi as costing only like 2900mnai, i figured taht wasnt right so i lookedo n the unit card and someone said the price should be around 4x the upkeep cost so i changed my edu to 4600mnai. Is this happingin with someone else or just my EB?

General units have upkeep cost 0 by default assumption. The three Spartan bodyguards the KH starts out with are apparently a bit of a "special feature", basically family members stuck to common Spartan units. The KH's actual BG unit (based on Epikletoi Hoplitai) works normally.

This is not the kind of comment we like from someone who gets years worth of work, for free.

lol you know its all in fun thats what the balloon was for! i guess its kind of hard to convey emotions over typing, but the way i feel is you guys are doing this for free but its all really good and then all the sudden a buncha units are "missing" upkeep so i'm like omagosh they're being slackers like hmm:inquisitive: i dont really know how to say it online(it was supposed to be funny ribbing if you know what that means) so i must shamefully :shame: hang my head and beg forgiveness from any on the EB team i have offended i love the free stuff i get

Madmatg asked a question, you responded and quelled his (light-hearted) fears that the EB team was slacking off. He then thanked you for your troubles. I don't see anything discourteous about that.

Watchman helps and gets a balloon, this is okay, even great.

However, he said he had the impression we were slackers. I'd daresay there is some evidence of quite a bit of work done, regardless of whether there was an oversight on bodyguard upkeep or not. His comment is offensive to me. Yours is also not friendly, however is precise. I do not have much sense of humour left after reading the public forums lately.

People really stop making jokes and forcing the issue the internet can't convey tone or lightheartedness so read your posts aloud before posting and if they sound offensive you may want to edit them.

There have been a lot of flamers and trolls around using nonsensical arguments and pissing off people with good intentions trying to help and guys from the team doing their best to explain their choice. You may not have any bad intentions of course but don't push it.

Bovi is here everyday collecting reports and fixing most of them or at least offering an explanation I agree it is part of the job providing support but don't forget this is done in our free time and he's been doing a great job.

Totally out of topic but:
Cheer up team, despite some random untactful comments you achieved something so great that most other modding teams would be proud of having a fraction of...

I personally use EB as "historical" inspiration source (the brackets are there just because EB isn't a primary source, not because I don't think it's accurate btw) to push improvemets in XGM and I'm sure others are doing the same...

That's not what he said: he merely implied that he feared the team had slacked off in just this one instance. This is nothing like what you say.

I cannot apologise for my "tone", either; my tone has only ever been friendly towards the EB team, even when the EB/RTR relations were at their most strained. I simply believe that, at times, some members need to lighten up a bit. Yes, sometimes a harsh reaction is warranted - but this is not one of those times.

On the other hand, of course, people need to read posts less literally.

Absolutely agree. Having been involved in the RTR team both as a forum moderator and developer (though real life commitments have slowed me down to less than a crawl of late), I know all too well the unnecessary pressures Bovi and others are under and am grateful for their continued work.

I don't know about anyone else, but it's games like RTW and mods like RTR and EB that got me into history in the first place ~;)

@Qwerty - appears i need to look closer at unit sizes... the hetairoi kataphract seem to be a very small size unit, like the size of a generals cavalry unit(10 in the edu) so this cost is probably right on as long as that unit is the size its supposed to be

Watchman
10-20-2007, 21:32
Of course it's tiny like a general's cavalry unit - it is one...

madmatg
10-21-2007, 03:09
lol really? what do they use for cavalry? i didnt see anything heavier than prodromoi for them until the hetairoi cataphracts

Dunno, the usual round-up of Central Asian natives probably plus Baktrioi Hippeis which they AFAIK have a monopoly on. And some steppe guys probably.

Don't forget the Baktrioi Hippotoxotai and the Hellenikoi Kataphraktoi ~:)
