Hi

Noticed a significant increase in the time involved at the end of a turn. (from 30 secs EB 0.8x to 4-5 mins EB1)

Anyone else notice this?
Anyone have any tips and tricks for speeding up EB1 end of turn?

As usual...many thanks in advance...and apologies if Im being a thicko :)

ya- get more RAM- speeds things up.

I've noticed this too....

It would appear my 768MB is insufficient to play 1.0.

I'm buying more ram this weekend.

EB gods, do you see what you've forced me to do to ensure I have my daily fix of EB?

Woas me.....hmmm, is that how you spell woas? Meh, whatever.

If you can't offord upgrades, or just don't care for the new moving clouds on the campaign map download the file that changes it back to the old one, this should help?

ya- i think the new textures does s/t to it... tht also why im getting another gb of RAM for my computer, to handle the large battles i soon will be fighting in my AAR....

If you're in GB, it's probably spelled Woad me :clown:. Otherwise, woe is me.

I didnt think there was anyone still around these days with less than 2GB of ram...

Well, my laptop has around 1000 MB-Ram, my old piece of heck computer has about 500. I have been playing Rome for a very long time with only 256 MB-Ram and had no problems, so there was no need to update. But the problem is that new games are very likely to need more than 1GB ram, and I don#t think you can increase the ram on a laptop.

and a 64mb graphics card, and an 800mhz cpu, and £250 in the bank, so theres no hope for me, I am reisgned to my fate.

Hmmmm....yes.

Heh, wow. That's blatantly obvious too. :laugh4:

Ram or video card ain't a problem:beam: ....this is mod related hence the reference to the change in mod version.....from 0.8 to 1x as the variable.

Anyone any ideas on this?

Turns take about 10-15 seconds for me.

How much RAM do you have, HFox? EB 1.0 could very well use more RAM than EB 0.81 (I never really monitored EB's RAM usage), which could potentially cause a massive slowdown for you.

When your system RAM is fully used, your OS will start putting data into a pagefile on the harddrive instead of in your RAM, and accessing the pagefile is exponentially slower. This is why so many people suggest 2GB+ of RAM. It's cheap.. so it might be time for an upgrade :)

What are your system specs?

I have 1.2 gb of ram and turns are still insanely slow.At least much slower than in 81v2.

I got about 50 gb and its slow, plus if i dont turn of grass in the settings the battles are very slow as well. I think it has to do with the mod

Well I guess I would really recommend my system configuration for EB.. because I really don't have an amazing system, it was quite inexpensive and the game runs great even at 1920x1200.

Here are my specs:

Intel E4300 Core 2 Duo at 3.15GHz
Gigabyte 965P-DS3; FSB running at 1400MHz
2GB Kingston HyperX DDR2 RAM at 875MHz
BFGTech GeForce 7900GS
Western Digital 300GB harddrive
Samsung 245BW 24" LCD 1920x1200

To me this was just a cheap but "good bang for your buck" system. If EB is slow for you I'd HIGHLY recommend a system with a similar configuration (but maybe you don't need such a big monitor :), because most of these parts can be had quite cheap now. (newegg.com)

The E4300 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU by default is clocked at 1.8GHz, but I am running it at 3.15GHz. I also have the FSB at 1400Mhz instead of the default 800MHz. This is with the stock fans, too. This CPU/Motherboard combination is well known for it's ability to be over clocked insanely high with no special equipment. It's also very cheap and 100% stable.

I hope this helps someone who is considering doing an upgrade to their system for EB. And after all this computer talk I think I am going to goto newegg myself and get some upgrades.. :beam:

He is certainly is referring to his harddrive/harddisk size..which is not RAM (often called memory).

RAM/"Memory" is for temporary, extremely fast data storage. Programs get loaded into your RAM when you run them. Your harddrive is for semi-permanent storage(these things dont last forever :), and is much slower. Your harddrive is where your files are stored. When your system is turned off, your "memory" (RAM) is cleared. (And hopefully your harddrive is not :)

2GB is more than enough for EB. EB seems to use right around 1GB of RAM, but Windows uses quite a bit too, so 1.5GB may be adequate, but if you're upgrading just play it safe and get 2GB.

Hey, 1 gb was more than enough when I built this thing! Anyway, I have 1gb (duel-channel) and it runs just fine. It's slightly slower than vanilla, but that's to be expected. Loading times (in the beginning) are no more than a minute and end turn times are probably less.

i have 512 MB of RAM and the turns take about 45 seconds :inquisitive:
I wouldn't say it's slower than 0.8x at all...

Yeah its probebly the Hardrive. I probebly have less than 1GB then. Could you tell me where to look for how much GB I have, and how to install more thank you in advance

never mind i figured it out. They're cartlidges which go into slots in the computer right?

Sounds about right. Ask any question you have here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=132).:2thumbsup:

I'm beginning to suspect that the EB-Script is causing the massive slowdown of end of turn. I made a few turns with script deactivated and end of turn seemed much faster (20 min). As soon as I activated it, end of turn took about 1 min.
Perhaps all these if-conditions and monitor_events in the script slow the game down during end of turn.Well, the EBBS_SCRIPT.txt has 374618 lines and if the game goes through most of these lines for every faction during end of turn the slow down is understandable. Can anyone confirm or falsify this theory?
Btw I have 1,5 Gb ram installed.

Surely you mean 20 seconds, not 20 min? XD

I have 1 gb and turns end really fast for me, about a minute max. I can definitely say it's not definitively the ram, at the very least. It might be the siege tower.

...okay, ignore me, i just couldn't resist...

The script does indeed slow down the game. However, without it you're not playing EB.

Check out this (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=75948) guide, it certainly helped me, especially MAA's advice in the second post.

I tried that, it did make it a little quicker, but everything just reverted back to the way it was after I restarted my computer.

Turns for me take somewhere in the region of 2-3 minutes. Although the other day I had a turn that took almost half an hour!! EB 0.81 was indeed far faster. But I just take it like a man and do something in between turns.

I'm playing on a crappy laptop though, so I have no grounds to complain.
