Hello folks. Several Questions:
I just increased the brigand spawn value, now there is not theoretical maximum for this figure is there, it can be anything right?
But increasing the value decreases the frequency with which rebels spawn correct?
Now that I've increased it, will it take effect in my current game, or do I need to start a new one for the changes o take effect?
Cheers.

I think it is save game comp, but you'll definately have to delete map.rwm. If I was you I would wait for a more definative answer before doing anything.
Unfortunatley it is not savegame compatible as the campaign has already been generated, therefore you'll have to start new to see the changes.
It will also have no detrimental effects on old campaigns should you decide to continue with them.
(Disclaimer: This answer is from my limited knowledge of the RTW engine and should not be taken as absolute truth! :creep:)

Cool thanks, anybody know the answres to any of the other q's?

Sorry, skipped over the other one's.
Yes, by increasing the number in desc_strat, it decreases the rebels spawns.
I think (but i'm not sure) that the values range from 0-100.
Hope this helps

I thought 0-1000, though I'm not sure either.

yeah, thanks a lot. I hope to go on now to finish a game of EB, which I've never done.
you can set it as high as you want. i usually use something like 9999999999999999999. in my old roman game with that setting i got to about 230BC before I experienced my first random rebel spawn.
i'm not entirely sure, but i think that the stat basically means the chance that a rebel army will spawn in each region. for example if its set to 100, there will be a 1 in 100 chance that any region will experience a rebel spawn. the amount of unrest in the province also increases the chance of getting spawns. however, even if you run low taxes in every city you still get them pretty often.
i recommend keeping small armies in each major area when using a very high setting to make up for the money you save not having to fight them, if you decide to do that.

i use auto_win to get rid of the brigands scum :skull:
I have had it set at 9999 ever since i learned there was a way to stop those pathetic annoying rebel spawns that consist of like 1 unit of cavalry.
If they were realistic and spawned actual challenging armies where there was unrest in your empire then yeah that would be awesome for gameplay, but they don't... You'll get 1 unit of velites pop up outside Rome with low taxes and 255% loyalty for no apparent reason.
Where exactly can I find the desc_strat and the brigand spawn value? Sometimes taking out rebels and retraining troops is just too time consuming for a large empire :embarassed:
Around line nro. 40, brigand_spawn_value.

I wonder if the EB team can change this value for the next patch? So the rebels dont turn up so often??

Doubt they will. Its not as if its new discorvery, so I expcet that they would have changed it already if they were going to. Plus, whats the deal these days with so many people asking the be team to make tiny little (yet very contreversial) twitches to the game, when you could do it yourself in 5mins?
Not aimed at you paticuarly, Birka Viking.

Well I just dont see why the value should be so low so they respown hole the time, when I have over 100% loyalty in those areas.
But that just my :2cents:

Don't forget to delete map.rwm after making changes to descr_strat, too.

Why bother about the brigands? They don't take so much income after all. I used to hunt all of them a while back, but then I discovered you really don't have to. That means I only fight an occasional brigand battle when they have decided to ambush my columns or besiege my cities. Still, they are a very annoying and poor replacement for a proper revolt system.
They sometimes cause devastation, but the financial harm is almost invisible. I like rebels, partly because they suit my current Aedui campaign, where I think of them as independent villages.

.
They annoyingly block fords and bridges, which impacts on your homeland troop transportation. Also, there is no logic behing their spawning. In MTW you get rebels/brigands if you have low loyalty in a province, have lost some important battle(s), have your faction leader (which is an un-feature in RTW) killed or isolated etc. Here, they pop up just randomly.
Even more nuisance are the pirates. Especially with EB ship prices/upkeep it's impossible to defeat them fairly. You get stacks of über ships more than the total of Mediterranean faction navies.

Just play greeks for the pirates. Afterall, what other factions are worth playing?:laugh4:
Then just get some huge poliremes (forget the greek) and:smash:
The heaviest Celtic fleets also cut them down pretty sweetly.
If they were realistic and spawned actual challenging armies where there was unrest in your empire then yeah that would be awesome for gameplay, but they don't...
Isn't it possible to script something like that in? If the script can check for public order than it should be possible to make a script command for every province that under a specific value of PO *plop* a real rebell army will spawn next to the capital, including a family member to controll respawn.

I don't mind them. I use them as fodder for my new inexperienced general's and units to practice on. :hmg:
Pirates are annoying, especially as KH. My trade income from Athens is an essential source of income, but pirates love to pass through the Aegean and blockade my Athenian harbor. :pirate2:
In EB, it's not worth building a fleet to defeat them, though. I find fleets to be pretty much worthless, with the exception of transport fleets if you must use them for short army movement.
Set it to 9999 like i have it, you'll never have 1-unit rebel armies Akontistai popping up outside your 270% loyalty capital city ever again.
