Summer 252 BC, Greece. Two consular armies of mine are pulling back to Kornithos after Makedonian forces tried to break the siege of Demetrias. Its the end of the turn, and my two armies are just getting through a mountain pass (on the campaign map its the mountain range across the pond from Korinth.) Out of the mist, Demetrias of Makedonia comes with several thousand men under his command. Seeing this as a great chance to crush a numerically superior army and bring the fight back to the enemy I fight the battle, with my other army as my reinforcement. I UNCHECK the box that allows the computer to control the AI army, and prepare to kick some ass....
So its a surprise when, once the battle starts, the army ISNT under my control. The AI foolishly charges my Hellenic Allied army onto Makedonian pikes, and I lose countless men. Annoyed, but thinking I can remedy this mistake, I re-load before the battle and leave the box ticked, in the hope that NOW ill be able to control my reinforcements. Once again, Im pissed off to see the AI control my army...and massacre it. How the hell do I control a reinforcement army?! Please help...Im at my wits end, and I think ive sworn at my computer enough times to re-enact Goodfellas.:furious3:
If you look at the enemy army after unchecking the box, it is screwed up. If you start the battle without adjusting it at all, it is likely screwed up. Just click the AI control box once or twice (depending on whether you want control or not) directly before starting the battle, always.

Unfortunately, you cannot control reinforcements at all from what I know
If you have the box checked, the A.I. takes over and as you said, they often massacre the troops with stupid strategy. I try and move my army, or portions of it, as close tot he A.I. army as possible incase things go badly

Disclaimer: it's RTW's fault. Solution: check/uncheck the box multiple times. Works sometimes.

Yeah, always check and uncheck a few times, and make sure you start the battle directly after unchecking, don't press anything else except start battle.

Yeah if you uncheck the box and then open the menu to save your game, or view the enemy forces, than the reinforcements will be AI controlled. You best bet is to just not uncheck the box until your ready to fight the battle. So view your enemy, save your game, do whatever you do, and then uncheck the box and enter the fray. :2thumbsup:
EDIT: God dammit Pharnakes you beat me to it!
Unfortunately, you cannot control reinforcements at all from what I know
No, this is wrong, you can control your reinforcementsas long as the box
"reinforcements ai controlled" is unchecked. And you need to have enough space left for addtionlla units to your army. If you don't have space left (a compelte fullsatck) your reinforcemnts will wait unitl a unit is commanded to leave the battlefield or is getting killed. then your reinforcements will march into battle until the amx number of units is reached again or until ther is no reinforcement unit left.
So its a surprise when, once the battle starts, the army ISNT under my control.
i have expierenced this, too and it was pretty annoying to see my elites charge uphill against the enemy positions or doing other stupid things and take unneccessary casualtys. I hate the gmae for reverting the ai
/human controll check box to ai control everytime you look at the enemy stack in the pre battle screen.
