Hedges and maps

Is there any benefit to defending behind a hedge? Or is the hedge just for visual effects?

Does anyone know if new maps can be added to a province?

As far as I've been able to tell, hedges dont provide any cover-- they are just decoration.

And, yes, I believe you can change the maps for given provinces. Go to the Mods forum and ask the same question.
