View Full Version : Query - Any way to change factions mid-game?
I was wondering if there is any way to change factions mid-game. I am on turn 100-something in my Turkish campaign and it would be fun and a challenge to 'bring back' a faction that is currently teetering on the brink of destruction.
I have tried using the shell command "control FactionName", but despite it being a recognized command (no error when I input it to the console), it does absolutely nothing as far as I can see.
Is there an option to modify the savegame file maybe?
If anyone has any ideas please post. Thanks.
Logically one would assume that it is possible somehow, though I have never heard about anything similar been done before.

Can be done by using the
"control_faction" cheat
With this cheat however you will be controlling only that other faction, your faction will go to the AI
(Cheats are'nt always good: :wizard: )
Can be done by using the
"control_faction" cheatI
Have you tried it? It doesn't work for me. If I bring up the shell and write:
control_faction england
I just get:
Error: Command unrecognised. Type ? for help.
Is there a trick to doing it?

Well it be fun to meet your own, strategically made forces rather than facing a horde of catapults and trebuchets. ~;)

look at this thread (I believe its on the second page of CITADEL):
"Can 1 player control 2 factions in the Singleplayer mode?"
You will get all you need to know

How do I open the console (non-english keyboard). They've changed the key since RomeShell, I just noticed. :inquisitive:
Got it!
control_FactionName doesn't work. Neither does control FactionName, or anything else for that matter.
Unless...
You play the hotseat game! Then control FactionName works like a charm. The downside is it is only available in Kingdoms. But you can use the Retrofit Mod (only if you have Kingdoms, and you get some other things too). This command toggles between human/AI control, and you could theoretically select only the Mongols as a human faction and wait for them to appear - but that would be quite a wait.
And it doesn't work on games you already started, since it's not a hotseat game.

It's the tilda key, just left of '1' key (the vertical row of number keys, not the 3X3 square).
I have a Slovenian layout (South+Central+Eastern Europe use similar) and my tilda key is a modifyer for that squigly line under the letter C that the Turks use (real present day Turks, not M2TW Turks:beam:): ç - if your browser will display it.
It gets frustrating because I often type things like

Next to my 1 key is infact | and §, though that key, yes, used to be my RomeShell key. I just accidentally discovered that the key I open the console with on my keyboard is a scrolling function on the far right that is special for my keyboard. Not only is it special, but it also loads last save game when I press it, so I cannot use it. :inquisitive:
Thanks for the help, and sorry for hijacking your topic. ~:thumb:
