The English channel, I mean.

I have seen that there are walkways on the campaign map over the straits near Sicily, the Suez canal, at Peloponessus, at Byzantium, and perhaps there is one by the Straits of Gibraltar also.
Why then, and excuse me if you have added this in 1.0, as I have only just begun to play it, (And this will I write on later), why then are there no crossings on the English channel?

It cannot be because the Casse would simply try and take Gaul immediately, the AI would prefer to take Britain first.
But creating this bridge would allow Gaul to conquer Britain, and the Casse to conquer both!
It would not be theoretically historically inaccurate either!

I would like to know in this thread why there is no crossing, and if someone could create a mod which would put this in place.

I've also wondered this. There was a thread on it a while back but I'm not quite sure what the results were. I'd be quite happy to create a small mini-mod for it, IIRC its not that difficult.

I guess its because Casse has enough challenge already trying to deal with those nasty rebel cities. If Gallic people can come conquer Britain, Casse will have to devide in the army in to two (One to conquer rebel city) or make another army (If you have enough money)

Casse already have enough trouble uniting all Britain. If Gaul are able to come there with out an boat, Casse will die every single game

Try BI.exe this way at least there is a good chance that AI will cross the channel. (both ways)

It would be interesting to see what would happen if a land bridge was implemented. I'll try and get on to it tommorow and run some tests.

Thank you Admetos!

Perhaps I mistook what I saw on the Progression threads.
I thought, even with the addition of BI.exe, which I am using, that the Casse have still never crossed without help.

Is there anyone who can relate if they have seen this happen and how successful the Casse were in making an invasion?

The Casse won't launch amphibious invasions I think unless they are at war with someone on the mainland and vice versa.

I'm not sure about with the land bridge though because IIRC the Gaulic province that would have the landbridge is a rebel province, so the tests sould be interesting.

Patience, please. While the team has nothing so gauche as a 22-mile land bridge in mind, some steps have been taken in this general direction. It'll be in the next release.

As it is, "land bridges" represent straits which can be crossed with relative ease, thus not requiring the presence of a dedicated naval squadron. Rafting an army across the Channel isn't exactly a simple task, as opposed to e.g. the stonethrow's distance between Euboia and mainland Greece.

In MTW "strategic pieces" (diplomats, spies, assassins, princesses, clergy etc.) can cross the seas without ships, granted that the province had a port+. It made much sense. You wouldn't build a fleet to transport your diplomat across; he would use a trading etc. vessel and pay for it.

Can it be emulated in RTW via script? For instance you bring your diplomat onto the port (on the same tile?) and end turn. The script teleports him across...

No, it's not possible. The script needs to know the name of the character to be transported, but there's no script interface to get a character name.
