Does anyone have any information on specific legions that were completely destroyed in battle. I am not looking for battles in which miscelaneous legions were destroyed like Carhae or Cannae, I am looking for specific legions. Obviously most that were destroyed are lost to history and I am sure Rome didn't like to constantly remind the populace if and when one was destroyed in battle. I know of the legions lost at the Teutoberg forest and the 14th destroyed in Gaul during the Gallic wars. Any more info would be helpful.

Well before the Marian reforms (107 BCE), I do not believe that the Romans had a system of keeping names for legions. Instead, they would just recruit as many legions as were necessary and force the people to serve for as long as the campaign(s) lasted.
I can't help you with after the Marian reforms, that area is mostly outisde my main interest.

Yes, and the few survivors and those who where bought from their families out of the slavery were not permitted to ever return to Italia, for that nobody should ever hear of the shame. Augustus feared the news would cause unrest.
