Mrs. Apache to be more correct. An old friend of hers who emigrated a decade or so back is very poorly and she's flying out on the 1st November to visit.

So guys, I know there's a fair few members who live in the 'land down under' and I was asking do you have any tips or advice for me to pass on to her? It's her first visit to Oz.

She'll be staying on the Sunshine Coast QL.

Thanks in advance.

Sunshine Coast eh? AFAIK no Org member up there.

What sort of tips are you after?
Food is good quality everywhere, prices are cheap.

If she cant contain the need to shop, there is a DFO (Direct Factory Outlet) next to the Brisbane Airport.

Im not much of a Coast person, besides owning a unit at Caloundra for a few years.

If you were going I would adivse you to go to the Donut King at Caloundra, because its owned by friends  Freed Donuts :beam:

Best of luck to Mrs. Apache. If you ever feel the need for some Aussie atmosphere, come to Brisbane. sapi and I would be glad to have you in our fine city (mumbles about how Melbourne thinks they are the worlds most livable city)

As for stereotypes:

Queenslanders are rednecks, bogans and stupid, but incredibly rich.

New South Welshman are too expensive, and they suck at everything (read: life [only because of State of Origin])

Victorians love AFL and Cricket. Better than NSW, but still not nearly as good as QLD

ACT (Australian Capital Terriotry) a small bunch, but think they are cool because they have the government. The town is quite literally boring. Everyone I know who has been there was incredibly bored. Best place in Australia for fireworks and p***

Tasmanians are inbred, have multiple heads, but otherwise are ok

South Australians are religious generally, their capital being the City of Churches. Small capital, but nice up in the mountains.

Northern Terriorty is a great place to go for a one off, but is too hot to stay. You run out of stuff to do within 2 days.

Western Australia is too far away for anyone to care. They are normal.:beam:

As for State against state:
NSW vs Everyone in general
NSW vs QLD (the big one, and really the only noticable one)
NSW vs VIC
QLD vs VIC

(note: all the above information is not true, it is Australian stereotypes of each other)

For a taster of Australia: go here. Brilliant. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pyp0yNIjWmY)

For the explanation of that video (what the terms refer to) just ask

Sunscreen is a must. Unless you want to be red for a couple days.

Sunscreen is a must. Unless you want to be red for a couple days.

Unless you're used to the weather down here, a few days on the coast without sunscreen will turn you into a red mass ~:)

Other than that, pever's got it pretty much right - if she can avoid the usual stereotypes, and deal with the accent, she should be fine; the coast's a very nice place to visit, and should be enjoyable.

Oh, and it's probably a good idea not to mention politics, as we'll be three weeks into an election campaign, and all thoroughly bored of it :laugh4:

At least we aren't redneck bogans...

Now that I read your post better I see you already covered that one.. how coincidental.

As for State against state:
NSW vs Everyone in general

NSW vs VIC
QLD vs VIC
You forgot West against East. They just can't handle that we are better than they are. As to NSW vs QLD being the only big one you obviously don't know much about Sydney vs Melbourne. That is the only one that anyone down here actually cares about.

Ive only been to Brisbane (well i live there.. ) and Sydney.
Only thing I can say is that generally speaking the beutifulness of Brissy girls beats the Sydney girls.

Ive only stayed at Sydney for 7 days but I only seen a beutiful women once, when I go to Brisbane city I see beutiful women least every 5 min.

Plz NSW peoples.. spare me...:skull:

If your after food in Brisbane (dont know the coast very well sorry) I can list couple fantastic restraunts in Brissy if you like.

pevergreen

Oh no.

BTW I'm a very fussy eater. I dont eat burgers or pies.

Tomato sauce? Hate it, i refuse to even touch the bottle. The stuff disgusts me.

To further prove my non eating: i dont eat steak, seafood, pork, turkey etc.

I heard Ipswich has a really good library. Although, Im not sure if thats simply because no one ever uses it :sweatdrop:

And Beefy is pretty right about Brisbane beaches being better than Sydney ones. And I've hung out at both :laugh4: The best ones are near the border which is kind of no mans land though.

pevergreen

It famous for the lifesavers pulling their speedos right up their bum-cracks.

Its famous, but i dont actually know why. The best beach i have been to - Kings Beach, Sunshine Coast, Caloundra.

Yep, Bondi beach is in Sydney. It isn't as good as some of the others because it is so packed with people.

This is why Kiwis love State of Origin.

Aussie's bashing Aussie's. :balloon2: :balloon2:

The fact that they play great football is also a plus but the best bit is ALL injuries and fights are Aussies.

If only there was any easy way to bait them more

[mumbling behind hand] "hay deekheed" (damned accent gave me away again) :wall:

Bah lucky kiwis:sweatdrop:

There must be a "Better island" competition or something between north NZL and south NZL... Otherwise it aint fair for Aussies.. (Go the south)

To CA: Whats the best beach in Sydney?

Cronulla isn't bad if you don't mind haning around Racists and the surf isn't too bad. Most of the beaches between those two or around them are pretty good, and a lot less packed.

And the best NRL is played up here in Queensland...

I spoke with the Mrs. last night (her morning :dizzy2: ) and asked her how she was liking the warm weather?

"Warm weather? It's been chucking it down all week!"

Ahh well, it seems that the sun doesn't always shine on the 'Sunshine Coast'. :laugh4:

Made me feel a bit better with having to put up with an English autumn. :shame:

She's not looking forwards to the flight back either, it's a bit of a ballbreaker apparently.

Flippn' egits!

I got a message from the airline in Brisbane that the flight was delayed, it would, the messenger said, be landing at Manchester at 5:23.

Yours truly sets the alarm for 4:00 and goes to bed early. Gets up, quick cuppa, then into the car for the drive to the airport. Arriving about 5:30 I park up and go to the arrivals terminal.

I go straight to the boards to find out which gate 'she who must be obeyed' was about to be delivered to.........and no sight of the flight number. I wandered over to the information desk and ask when the flight landed and gave them the number. They look it up.

Oh yes! That flight will be arriving at 17:23, that's right 17:23 not freakin' 5:23. :wall:

I really feel like swearing.

Ejits!

IA, I can't believe you didn't remember that everything is opposite south of the equator, so 5:23 for them becomes 17:23 for you. :inquisitive: Tsk, tsk.

Seriously, I'd be quite pissed too. I really hate getting up really early in the morning...especially for nothing.
