Agoge Strategery?

I have a lot of questions for any Greek pro's out there! I'm playing Epirus right now and I love the Agoge in Sparta. I have kept upgrading my schools there, so the young nobles acquire huge ancillaries during their stay. Is there any way to increase this effect? I have been starting off with either Type I governments where possible, or Type IV outside of Greece so I can build all my regional MICs first and free my FM's to be field commanders, but have Type II in Chalcis, Athens, Sparta and Corinth. First, am I missing any troops by not going through the Type IV MIC tree in Greece or Illyria? Also, how do I get rid of a regional governor when I am ready to turn it into a Type II or III? Is building Type III ever worth it, or should I go from IV right to II, if possible? Why are the Romans addicted to Epidamnos, and why don't they attack the Carthaginians? I let them have Taras, so I could use the army and money to conquer Greece, but they haven't even gone after Rhegion or Patavium.

I didn't know that you could use other faction's government buildings. I thought they had no effect for different factions so I've always destroyed them upon conquest.

Isn't the one in Sparta a unique building though? They affect everyone, afaik.

I've recently started using type IV governors in my Carthage campaign, I'm turning Italy into one big client kingdom.

Anyway, I don't think there's any way to get rid of Client Kings - the whole point is, you made them king. They're gonna be pissed off if you depose them.
The point is a type IV region isn't yours perse, it represents regions you have beaten in battle - they now pay tribute to you, etc.
I personally don't do this, but I imagine the way to (role)play them is to place them under AI control.

Epirus, Maks, KH and MAYBE the AS and Ptolies can use the Agoge, but I'm not sure about the last two.

It might be Romani too.....hmmmm maybe it is all factions. I haven't gotten that far yet, having too much fun with Saba. :shrug:

Because the AI is hardcoded to hate you, the player. Apparently it makes the game challenging. You havent said if theyre still at war with you [ having taken Taras you probably dont share a direct border so the AI will accept a ceasefire whilst it tries to conquer provinces to reach you] but if theyre at war then they probably favour your territory for attacks over the rebels.

If that is the case, then all I can reccomend is try make that peace deal with Rome and they should "reset" to seeking out rebel cities bordering them.

If its not the case, then just build one or two fleets in or around Ambrakia/Epidamnos and kick every Roman fleet you see. Retrain in Ambrakia, rinse repeat.

That's funny, the AI never attacks me. And yes, I play on Very Hard (campaign) and Hard (battles).

do u have to keep the sparton agoge built to use it or use your own gove

You can replace both the government and MIC in Sparta with your own, and you will still be able to use the Agoge. At least, you can do this as Epeiros and Makedonia, so I assume you can do it as anybody else who can use the Agoge.

Can the romans use the agoge?

Always tear down foreign governments, this includes the Type1 "Agoge" government in Sparte. The Agoge trait system and the building are completely separate.

No, Romans cannot use the Agoge. I think only the 'Western Greeks' can.

The Agoge is available to the KH, Epeiros, Maks, AS, Ptolemaioi, and Baktria.

Does anyone know if there are any good units to be had with the top-tier local MIC in the Type IV gov's in the Balkans? I did a quick cheat to see what was at the top of the Cretan local MIC and it was just Hoplites and Mercenary Generals. Big whoop. Unless of course Merc generals kick azz? :smg: I don't feel like going through every territory! An EB Monster Manual would be helpful.

Just to be clear, you don't need the Agoge goverment building (that is, the Type 1 building) in Sparta to train for the Agoge right?

Then I send them to Athens where I have the third tier school, so they can rack up ancillaries. The best of the bunch gets sent out with a field army by age 24 to kick azz while I wait for a Type IV governor to croak and then send them to their new home and shift to the highest gov. I can build there. Anyone have an idea I can use to augment my sinister plan?

Why not build a third-tier academy in Sparta and save yourself the time in Athens? That way they can become Agogites and rack up ancillaries simultaneously.

I just did Athens as my main school cause it was just easier to build it there at the time, re: the Gov had a cheap-build ancillary and I vaz building zome-zing else in Schparta at zee time. It's been working out well. I still send my graduates to Athens (third tier school and blacksmith) until a governorship opens up that is appropriate for his skillz. Not a perfect set-up, but what in reality was? I consider it some sort of RP.
