View Full Version : Protecting Errant Assassins

Folks,
One whinge I have about MTW is that I can't find any way to prevent my assassins from leaving the relative safety of my lands when I give them a mission to bump off the various Alims, Orthodox Priests and what have you, that bounce in and out of my territory, all the time.
I've been able to tolerate it for a while, but having to see my four-star top man dragged to the whipping-post, branding-iron and headsman's block after following a target to the godless reaches of Eastern Europe is too much.
Can anyone help me rein my air-mile happy assassins in, please? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yea , I was thinkin' it would be nice to have an auto-manage menu with some choices for individual non-combat units.
Daughters
Assassins
Emmis'
etc.
You know, use a menu like the currewnt auto-manager. Have settings like "only travel thru allied provinces", NEVER leave the current province, Stay in current province and "attck any possible victem that is weaker in honor than me.
I think the picture is painted.
It is very frustrating to see your assassins killed on the other side of the globe, when you _intend_ to protect your province, isn't it. A simple menu was suggested in this and other treads, which will is easy to implement. Hopefully CA will listen and do it.

Don't try to assassinate an enemy agent that is in one of your port provinces. These agents move every turn and will most likely move through another port that has a spy, border fort, or another assassin who catches your man as he follows his target. I find that if I only attack agents that are in my interior provinces, one or more moves away from a port, my assassin can catch them and do the dirty deed at much less risk to himself. I place a spy and assassin in each of my port provinces to catch enemy agents passing through, but use them defensively. I have agents in my interior attack if the right opportunity comes along. You have to pick your targets and the right spot carefully or you will eventually lose that top assassin you've been grooming for big game.

I too have given up on trying to pick off spies unless they are in my interior. why I should have to limit myself is beyond me. I mean the French envoy's been sitting there for 4 years quietly spieing out my province, then the moment I plunk an assasin on his trail he high tales it across the map! Man, wish our CIA had an intelligence apparatus as thorough.
