The Celtae Vollorix???
They look exactly like Neitos, cost the same, but have 1+ Attack, 1+Defense, and 1 less penalty against elephants.
I don't see who can recruit them.....:help:

Conquer a gaul territory, build a type IV gov. in and raise a top level regional MIC, you will be able to recruit some Vallorix

You can buy them also as another factions.
Now you can build generals everywhere, diferent generals for regions (one for gaul and britain, one for germany, one for italy, one for Iberia, one for east, one for greek provinces, one for steppes, etc (correct me if I'm wrong)......... Another new excelent stuff from EB1 :2thumbsup:
They are the same as the client rulers bgs I thing and they are all in lv4 regional MIC .

ok so let me get this straight, let me know if I am wrong:
-Everyone, including the Aedui/Arverni themselves can train these generals.
-These guys are generals NOT local MIC4 Neitos.
-So a foreing gov't will be able to train both the MIC4 Neitos AND the general.
am i right????

Had the same thing...the recruitment report informed me of an alleged celtae vollorix lesser king heavy infantry unit retrained in Bononia...but if any it was the Roman client ruler from the round before...
the next round when I exchanged ancillaries in Bononia my machine crashed to desktop...

Correct, correct and correct.

@NeoSpartan: not entirely, though: you need foreign MIC level 5 to get any Recruitable General whatsoever (Vollorix included) AFAIK.

The gov4 client-kings use Merc General units appropriate to the region AFAIK.

You don't. Why would you want them in gaul? You have your own royal family.

My advice then: build a type 4 in Massilia, get these guys+ some greeks.

They're a much smaller unit though. 60ish guys instead of 100.
In my Pontus campaign they had 160 men on huge scale. They arn't a small unit.

Heh, they are like/actually are BI's recruitable generals. Just like a FM, but not. In this case, its a Celtic Lesser King, which CAN be retrained to 80 on Large. So yes, if you feel like spamming quasi-FM's (I wonder if they can be adopted like BI generals could) for your "better Neitos" (I heard the actually look like Rycalwre in a battle) then feel free. Massila IS a good L4 gov area though, as you get Hellenistic AND Celtics.

Maybe a bit off-topic, but download the "Recruitment Viewer" tool.

UNLESS the unit cards are wrong they are both 80 :dizzy2:
.....and if this is the case, its not cool :furious3: !!!!! They should be at least more expensive than Neitos
QwertyMIDX

Well the size of bodyguard units depends on the traits of the leader so its sort of erratic, but I think the base is 60ish (on large).

NeoSpartan, why would you want them as the Gauls? You've got the Neitos, Solduros, Geasatae, and loads of unique Celtic units per region?(Like all the Goidilic forces for example?) Seems kinda silly you'd want a unit that looks just like the one your faction already has but downsized.:shame:
Now, Celtic Cataphracts on the other hand, are a must! :D

well... for a second I though the guys were the same numbers so when I play MP they will both have the same number. Now that I see it varies then it will probably have 40men in MP.
HOWEVER... they may show up like the Spartan General in .81x in MP, the same #s as the regular spartans. (although all stats were the same).
with this in mind... let me clear up my sillynes:
-IF while on MP these guys and the Neitos cost the same and have the same numbers I will get these guys because of thier attack. U know... $$ is a REAL issue, especially in MP, and choosing units with the most bang for ur buck is mandatory. So thats what I was thinking about, no SP.
on the cataphracts :laugh4: lol!!!! it would be cool but unless they find the remains of one in some Celtic berrial we ain't getting them :wall:

Oh you meant in MP! I thought you were talking about SP! Yeah I can see what you mean then. I was confused about your meaning before.:dizzy2:
NeoSpartan
10-26-2007, 04:10
yeah man... u see in MP you get to REALLY see the impact unit costs have.
In SP it still happens, but the dumb AI and ur silver/gold chevron (constantly retrained) regular units dampen the effect of cost as u don't need so many elites to beat an AI all elite army, especially if u play in M.

Try it in huge, I believe they are already trainned in 160 men units

I got a Celtic Vollorix too last night.
Had no idea where it came from and thought it was
cool and confusing at the same time.
I don't have any regional level 4 MIC in my campaign yet,
so either I must've recruited a mercenary Vollorix or it must've
come free when I built my Type 4 government. If I recruited
a mercenary, the unit must've looked generic in the recruit
screen and then looked like a general in the army screen the next
time I noticed days later.
Believe it or not, his title is "governor", even while there's a
family member in the same city.

Everytime you build a lvl4 government, you automatically get a local client ruler to govern the city for you. His unit will be the local bodyguard for the area, which in your case is the Vollorix. And yeah, he's a governor, can't leave the city, and should have a trait called "client ruler". Pretty cool, I think.

It IS pretty cool! Thanks for confirming.
It seems to be like a veteran infantry unit that can regenerate itself.
Now, I wonder what happens when this governor dies defending the city.
Do we get a new one?
Cartaphilus

No.
You have to destroy your gov. building and build it again.
So, I beg that client rulers re-spawn when the former one dies.

If your a Gallic Faction they are pretty useful too, you might want Massalia to be type4 province as you get Celtic and Hellene mercenairiesz.
I think Segesta has Italian, Celtic, AND Hellene, but I'm not sure.
It is also good to note that they are not actually Neitos(atleast for Casse..but I don't think they change) they are Calawre.
Either way they're extra good for Casse if you don't like chariots and *ahem* messed...up..and..gave...up...the...code.
