View Full Version : Stability Question

Do you think that EB 1.0 is more stable than the last iteration (.81 I think)?

I've experienced more crashes on EB 1.0 and am wondering if this is what everyone else is getting.

Also, if you can, post your specs just to see if certain system configs are more stable. Also, perhaps also post what type of crashes you're getting.

Proc: E6400 @ 2.3Ghz
RAM: 2 Gig
GFX: 8800 GTS 320MB
OS: Windows XP MCE

I'm mostly getting post battle crashes about twice as often as in .81 with a noticible amount of lag.

0.81av2 with all Bovi's permanent fixes was the most stable version of EB yet. When 0.72 came out, and 0.80, they were both buggy, but huge leaps in terms of content. 1.0 is no different, much more content, but buggy. Once 1.2a or whatever comes out, we can expect the bugs to be ironed out if history repeats itself.

I have noticed EB to be more "laggy" with 1.0 than 0.81a2. The latter seemed to run quite well on my computer, with 1.0 making it struggle a bit. I'm hoping I can fix it myself, since my computer is no longer upgradable.

I have a Dell Insprion 5100 Laptop from 2003:
Pentium 4 2.4ghz Processor
1 gig of Ram
ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility 64 meg
Windows XP SP2

Both have been quite stable for me.

I still use the internal version, but even that is more stable than ever.

I've had either one or two CTD's with 1.0.
I had quite a few with the previous version.

Ironically enough, my first one on 1.0 happened after I posted here praising the lack of CTD's..

I had 1 CTD the entire time using 0.81v2 and so far I've had 0 using 1.0 so I don't know what all this instability mumbo jumbo is about :P

With a lot of new features there are bound to be new bugs too, including CTD ones. But we've had quite a few busy testers to find the common problems, and came to the point where we would have to release to find the rest.

For instance, the apocalyptic disasters probably never hit in any of the games of our 10-15 testers, but when over 10000 people play, that's when these rare occurrences happen. About the Arsé oppida crash, that is among the common problems, but unfortunately we didn't get that into the build until very late in the process, so the testers didn't have the time to find it until the release.

According to the numerous unresolved CTD issues there are a couple more things to weed out though. I'm more surprised at the huge number of people having trouble getting a working installation. All our beta testers and team members have got it working, so I didn't expect this rush.

As a perhaps useful tidbit of information, I'll take the opportunity to post my priority list when helping out:

1.Answering posts that can be helped with merely typing a tip, or where I ask for more information in order to begin investigation, or to help it
2.Installation problems
3.Reading the rest of the posts in the help forum in case there is something more belonging to the above categories
4.Stuff that requires quick investigation to help
5.The unresolved CTD report which is least recently posted in
6.CTD reports that are more recently posted in

The reason for the general order is a SJF (Shortest Job First) algorithm, while the reason for the order of the bottom two is because that's the way the forum sorts the personal stickies. Yes, it means that once someone posts in his thread the report is put in the bottom of my pile. Then again, it just might be that I've forgotten to sticky the thread, so you never know.

I've noticed quite a few post battle CTDs, none of them seem to be recurring though and it's no big deal (snatched a couple of nice victories from me though ). To be fair though I have recently changed rigs so I can't really compare too well I suppose :laugh4:
As others have said it's pretty much to be expected with the new content, hopefully some hotfixes perhaps soon :smash:

Just to help things along:

Athlon x64 5600
2gb ram
Geforce 8600GT 256mb
Vista home premium

This has mostly happened to me as well, the post- (and occasionally pre-) battle crashes. It's ruined a great victory or two for me, but it also erased a loss to some AI rebels overrunning the garrison at Taras--when I reloaded the game, they decided not to assault that turn, and my southern legion was able to reach them and eliminate them. So I guess it cuts both ways.

Cheers.

So far it has been pretty stable for me, though at the start of my campaign I was plagued with more CTDs than I usually get playing EB. Probably just a random fluke though..... hopefully....

mine seems to be less stable, mainly on these two parts
1. AI turns seem to take longer with the Rebels being the longest.
2. also my EB crashes more often than b4 maybe its because of the prety skies and water(i love them though)

Proc: amd 3200+ 2.0ghz

I've had 4-5 CTDs.. and in every case it was after a battle strangely enough.
But then again I've played it a lot since the release.
Otherwise very stable for me. :)

The only CTD's I've had is the end turn Ctd's, which number 4 or 5. Otherwise pretty stable.

Not one peep of instability to me.....game turn ends are slower.....but that may be my system....

ΕΒ 1.0 is as stable to me as EB 0.8 used to be. That is I never had a CTD! :2thumbsup:
AI turns seem to take longer though...
