i first play RTW at version 1.0, my complaint, the AI built too many fleet compare to it's tiny army, but it's battle AI were good,it know to counterattack my attacking army,it will surround my army if i attacked them.

Then i buy RTW at my visit of Singapore,it is version 1.5,the AI know to build many army compare to RTW1.0,but it's battle AI were sucks,i attacked AI army, they only counterattack with their attacked units, the rest will stand still and do nothing until i routed the other units, the general unit won't do the suicide attack,it is a good news, but the general unit stand still with the rest of it's units......

i rather play with RTW 1.0 battle AI with RTW 1.5 campaign map AI....

I don't recall a deterioration of the battlefield AI as RTW was patched - the strategic AI definitely got better (maybe best with the BI.exe).

RTW battlefied AI is rather weak on the defence, but in part I suspect that's because it is in a non-win situation. It can stand and get shot to death, or attack against the odds and die sooner.

The only advice I have is to try to stack things in favour of the AI. Limit your armies - often to historical or small proportions of archers/cavalry, perhaps even to half stacks. Pump up the AI by playing on VH campaigns or even using the console to give the AI yet more cash. That's what mods like EB often do.

If they attack you at 2:1, you can get a decent fight. If you attack them at 2:1, it's going to bore you to tears.

So true ECON, i´ve just recently finished a hotseat campaign with a friend - Carth vs Greece, the only thing we got bored on, was the easy way how each one of us could conquer the entire map, the AI is just pure crap, even is VH/VH, to make the game better we set up as rule not to use any units above the original cost of 650 denaris, the game got a lot more fun and skillfull.
