Hi i built a barrack on which it says that i should be able to train elephants, but they don't appear anywhere for me to train them. Just wondering if this is a glitch only for memphis or also the other ptoly cities? thanx
P.S. it's also for the other Ptoly cities

Some other Ptolemaioi things:
As far as I can tell and read in EDB, neither the Aithiopikon Agema or the Red Sea Hoplites can be built by the Ptolemaioi, though EDU says they can have these units. As for recruitment in general, several MIC upgrades are now useless, for example Petra - I can't build a single unit with the highest foreign natives MIC - or Pselkis, a gov2 province, where the highest possible faction MIC allows no new unit. I'm not sure if this is intented.
But I gladly welcome the Lonchophoroi Hippeis, Hetairoi Aspidophoroi and especially the Thorakitai for the Ptolemaioi (finally) and the unit stat/cost adjustments!

I'm now in 213 BC and never saw a suitable husband who was a Galates or a Ioudaios. Do these traits have any requirements?

Not sure about the elephants, but I don't think there should even be any in Memphis.
The Aithiopikon Agema was going to be removed, so it has probably had its recruitment removed but not completely removed from the game yet. I think the Redsea Hoplite is a known bug, but I may be thinking of a different regional for the Ptl. Not all MICs will produce something. We can't have them stop when they give you all they can give and we won't just randomly put stuff in because you can build a Type2 and don't get anything in a L4MIC.
I think you just have bad luck with your husbands...

Nubia. Take a trip up the Nile.
Ptolemais Theron can recruit elephants, as well.

AFAIK it really is intended for Ptolemaioi to recruit Elle of Memphis into the army. However, if you can't -not even with highest level of MIC's this really is a bug.
(@MAA it should be similar to the Seleukids recruiting from Antiocheia.)

Oh, that was implemented? I recall someone saying it was a good idea to do so, but I didn't think it got done.
Do they have 'seige' weapon and cannot be recruited without a reform that will never come, or something? (From what the first post says.)

I thought Krusader did map out what the EDB code had to amount to? If the Memphis Elephants did not make it in; well that's what a next version for EB will for?

Guys i really need help over here. Just tell me what must i do to get the elephant for the ptolys. I really want to start a new campaign with them but i don't want to start it if i know i wont be able to create my best schock troops.
Somebody said that you could create then i Theron but i can recruit only 2 tipes of spearman(the year is 220),.
Or at list tell me if this is a bug that needs much work to fix it so i know where i stand.
Thank you all:embarassed:

don't wanna sound like a dick but i really need this question answered. I'm free of college for 5 days and i really really REALLY wanna play EB with the ptolys.....:help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:
According to the EB Recruitment Viewer you can recruit Elephantes Hulaioi Liboukoi in the province Heptanomis with a level 4 native MIC. You can also recruit them in the provinces Kush, Erythraia and Daimat with a level 4 regional MIC.
I haven't actually played with the Ptolemaioi, so if the Recruitment viewer is wrong about the Elephantes in Heptanomis, it might be wrong about the regional Elephantes as well...

^^
@anubis88: Which means you'll have to consider a change of government. Type 3 (certainly) or type 2 (IIRC, but that I may be wrong there) will be sufficient.

it doesn't work. Ptolemais-Theron has only alliances available, but there are no elephants. Don't missunderstand me. When you build the Barracks it says that elephants should be recruitable, but they are not on the unit roster:no:
that's the problem. I built the highest MIC in both towns but there are no elephants... I'm really gonna cry! can anyone fix this? he would become my BEST FRIEND!!
I never played with egypt in any mod before EB1.0 and now i really REALLY LOVE THEM... but i don't wanna play without the elephants;D
so....:help: :help: :help: :help: :help:
You say you built the "highest MIC". Which highest MIC? Governments limit the MICs you can build, ultimately limiting your recruitment options.
anubis88

I'll try putting it this way. I've built all the buildings in memphis possible, it's a type 1 goverment.
I also built all the military facilities in Ptolemais-Theron, tried both type 3 and type 4 goverments,.
The barrack that costs 12000 mnai, (i think) says in both cities that i should be able to train forest elephants, but when the barracks is built, the elephant's are nowhere to be seen
I checked it out, and it's because only Carthage has ownership of the forest elephants. I don't know why. Ptolemies have ownership of towered forest elephants, bush elephants and both indian elephants once they get over where those belong.
anubis88
10-31-2007, 19:37
So this means i won't be able to train elephant's with the ptolys at all? Or do i need to conquer another region? Or can you fix it? Just so i know where i stand:egypt:
P.S. thanks fo looking into it Bovi:2thumbsup:
Possibly you can just add their ownership in EDU. It might be a model conflict on it though, causing CTDs when using them. I suggest you try to find the places where you can recruit the other elephant types though. The recruitment viewer is your friend.
anubis88
10-31-2007, 19:50
yes, but i think the RV also lies:D... so the forest elephants with towers weren't even ment to be in memphis and Theron? just the towerless ones? becouse the MIC states elephantes hulaeoi lubokoi or sth. like that, wich are the towerd ones. This means that to train elephant's i would have to conquer nubia? That sucks though... i thought t
There appears to be a bug, a mismatch between EDU and EDB. EDB says you should only be able to recruit untowered elephants, while EDU says you should be able to recruit any elephant but the untowered ones :dizzy2:. I suggest you add the numidia ownership to the forest elephants in EDU.
anubis88
10-31-2007, 21:58
what good will that do? whati is EDU anyways... I'm kinda a noob... I enyoy playing EB, but i dunno how to mod it... I cant train the neither in axum nor meroe
so if you could guide me through... if i could fix you could post a patch or sth for others... so:help: again pleas
I don't think it's important enough to post a fix about it. The historians have been saying conflicting things too, from what I heard when asking about this, so I might make it ahistorical too. What you do is open EB/Data/export_descr_unit.txt (hence EDU), then search out the african forest elephants, and add numidia among the owners of the unit. Good exercise to ascend from noobishness :beam:.

I've found out why I couldn't get a Jewish or Galatian husband: in EDCT "Ioudaios" and "Galates" have PtolemaioiGalates and PtolemaioiIoudaios listed as their own antitraits. Probably a copy and paste error. I hope that helps you.
These are the correct lines, I think:
;------------------------------------------
;Trait: PtolemaioiIoudaios
; o Ioudaios (1): Ioudaios – The Ioudaioi have lived in enclaves throughout Aigyptos for several hundred years, but the Ptolemaioi began employing even more of them as soldiers from the third century onward. While they commonly fought in units alongside soldiers of other ethnicities, they preferred to live in proximity to others who shared their ethnic identity and religious beliefs, beliefs which the rest of the Hellenistic world find truly odd. Their numbers in Aigyptos grew so great that, at least by the first century BC, they inhabited an entire quarter of the city of Alexandreia. Several Ioudaioi also rose to prominence in the Ptolemaic military in the late second century. So while they may be seen as "different," they are also more commonly trustworthy and talented commanders.

;Trait: PtolemaioiGalates
; o Galates (1): Galates – The entrance of the Galatai to Egypt was not a good start. Awed by the splendor of Alexandreia, they plotted to plunder its treasures, and four thousand mercenaries were tricked and killed by Ptolemaios Philadelphos in 274. Their willingness to serve as mercenaries, the fear they inspired in their enemies, and their loyalty to a liberal paymaster rehabilitated their reputation among the Ptolemaioi, especially after they staunchly defended the princess Berenike from Seleukid treacheries at Antioch in 247. They became relatively common soldiers among the Ptolemaic ranks. They steadily Hellenized over the years, and perhaps owing to this and their success as soldiers, several of them grew to prominence in the Ptolemaic state and military. While they can prove themselves capable governors and merchants, they are natural soldiers.

You're welcome:beam: - I also discovered that every Ptolemaic ethnicity is missing the antitrait "PtolemaioiKyprios" (in case of PtolemaioiKyprios that's perfectly right, of course). I'm not sure if that can cause any problems, just wanted to mention it.
Yeah, I picked up on that when the list suddenly became longer :beam:. Fixed for all the ethnicities :2thumbsup:.

Me again... the trait descriptions of the Ioudaioi and Galatai (export_VnVs.txt) say both should get a -1 penalty on influence. The according lines which give them -1 influence are missing in the EDCT.
I also found out that the EDCT simply does not allow Jewish or Galatian husbands. You can only get them by ways of adoption (Man of the Hour, that is). Is that intended?
Edit: for those of you who are missing those husbands and want to start a new campaign here is what you need to paste into your EDCT (make backup first) - at your own risk, though I personally had no trouble so far. I used the PtolemaioiSyrios triggers for the Ioudaioi and the PonticGalatikos triggers for the Galatai. Note: both ethnicities are not very likely to get anyway. Chances are only at 10 % (like Kyprios), I think. But experienced Ptolemaioi players already know that Macedonian and Greek husbands are far more likely than others.

It's uncertain whether these are intentional or bugs, I heard when I took it up in EBH. Thanks a lot for making the triggers, I'll probably use them if someone comes along and says it's not intentional.
