I bought M2TW the day it came out and found it to be unplayable due to various bugs, so I waited for a patch. When Patch 1.1 came out I was so happy :jumping: until I found out that most of the bugs are still there. So I waited for the next patch. After Patch 1.2 came out I found the gameplay completely unbalanced so I hoped for patch 1.3. Now I am desperate :wall:
This story is probably familiar to many people on this forum so now I decided that witing for CA is not an option and decided to turn to the moding community for help.
I am looking for a mod that will make the game balanced and fun to play. What mods do you use, and were can I download them?
Thank you in advance.

stainless steel is pretty good, not sure if that is the latest version though, best if you check.

Edit: actually found that 5.0 has been released but you need Kingdoms for it

I was disappointed by some of the changes made by the patches and went back to the plane 1.0 long ago. I can find a way to live with most of the bugs but which mods don’t need all the latest patches to play. Reinstalls are a pain and after a while the AI gets more inventive and actually seems to learn your tactics. The big Ms and Ts are now reluctant to siege me as they get their heads handed to them most of the time, elephants or not.

Is there a version of Big Map that works with 1.0?

One mod to wartch out for is Broken Cresccent, it may be better than the Crusades campaign in Kingdoms.

I just have retrofit mod and madronos unit mod, no real changes but still very good.

I like the Lands To Conquer mod.The AI money cheat is especially fun to exploit, lets just say making factions who qualify for the money cheat into your vassals.I suggest you read this guide about vassalage,it was made by Jong and its quite useful.Ctrl-c and Ctrl-v https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=83011&highlight=vassals.
Hope you enjoy.:2thumbsup:

I've enjoyed LTC its a real enhancement to vanilla MTW2 and dosent radically change the game play.

Recently I have enjoyed The long Road and Deus Vult mods at TWcenter, you should head over there. Very nice place, with loads of data on mods. :2thumbsup:

@Fisherking

do you really prefer 1.0 to 1.2? forgive me, but that seems quite bizarre. what specifically made you go back?

Well the truth is that I have not played with 1.2.
I got a new pc and loaded it but did not load 1.1 at the time. 1.2 took so long to be official and I did not find a free download site so I didn’t bother with it.

Most of the things I wanted fixed didn’t happen in 1.1 and much of what was changed just made the game less enjoyable. I remember 1.1 spawning massive amounts of pirate fleets in the Northsea and very odd AI invasion patterns. The V&V was still total crap and inquisitors were still a pain but just a little better. Some of the units were actually more broken than the original so playing with it was less fun than playing without it.

I can say that after you play every faction in the game more than once the AI starts to do new and interesting things. Mongols invade in new places and sometimes behave totally differently. I won’t say this is better, just different but the replay seems better than it was in the early games. Then it always seemed to do the same thing every time.

My intent was just to get the patches in Kingdoms but I decided not to buy it because of Securom…just on principal…so I will just play this way or with mods or do a bit of moding my self if need be.

Well every mod out requires 1.2 because of the huge amount fo bug fixes in it, most notable the shield bug and 2 handed bug fix, as well as trait fixes, better AI naval inasions, cannon/ballista tower bug fix, improvements to campaign AI and lots of other fixes.

@Fisherking

fair enough, but i'd say it's definitely worth going for 1.2. i torrented it when it came out, if you've no luck there or have a dial up then maybe it's on an old games mag cover disk?

I find Stainless Steel as the most enjoyable mod right now by far. I'm surprised that it's not mentioned more on this forum.

If you want the deviation from vanilla to be minimal, I suggest downloading retrofit mod, as it only adds some Kingdoms changes to M2TW and is semi-official. And I really like how Broken Crescent is shaping out, and I will definitely give it a try once it's out. I just hope they are as good at making gameplay enjoyable as they are at skinning units.

Cheers,

I'm a keen fan of The Long Road. If you prefer a more patient style and like to build up an economy infrastructure its probably the one for you. It doesn't add any new features just improves the vanilla game for a more "turtle" style of player.

ive only played LTC and now playing SS they are both good indifferent ways

LTC tries not to change anything too much excent fixing small bugs, updating the unit balance to kingdoms, and also trying to improve the AI a bit. the battles are definitely much closer to the original MTW.

i havent made up my mind about SS. it incorporates a lot of other mods into it like real combat, traits mods etc also adds a lot of new provinces, factions and units. so far ( i havent played much though) i havent seem much to be impressed about other than the new content of course and one thing thats has not really impressed me at all is the uber power of the generals. they seem to wipe out a spear militia unit in 10 seconds. so its very easy to exploit them in the early game. the argument behind this is that they were elite well armoured etc etc whihc of course has been argued so many times in all TW forums but i prefered the balance in LTC where even heavily armoured knights were devestating only if used properly it was never a given that they would win.

other than that i like the new traits and titles in SS adds a new aspect also the attemt to make logistics matter like armies on the road for a long time losing morale etc. my only worry is does the AI react to these penalties. iver seen a full stack egyptian army standing in the middle of nowhere foe the last 5 turns. this army in now proabbly useless as it will ahve severe penalties etc.

sorry seem to have rambled on. anyway so far i prefer LTC for the battles but SS has some interesting additions to the campaign map but will see how things pan out.

Personally I enjoy Anno Domini and Deus Io Vult. I highly recomend them. You´ll find both in the "mods in development" section in this forum.
