Hi, all, I'm completly new to this forum, but I hope to be spending a bit of time here now. I have just ordered a copy of MTW, gold edition, and would like to ask people what they would recomend in the way of mods.
Also what is this VI I keep seeing people mention? Does it come with gold?
Thanks

Hello Pharnakes.
Take a look at the mod part of the forum:
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=40
the XL mod is tremendously popular and a new version has just been released.BKB is also good so I ve heard, and MedMod is worth trying:

Then have a look at the Hosted Mods here:

VI refers to Viking Invasion, an expansion pack originally released separately for Medieval Total War. It is included in the Gold Edition as an integral part, so you don t need to get it separately.
Best wishes.
Hello Pharnakes,
There are quite some mods for MTW and VI. We used a static HTML database when those were made, so the new database doesn't list that many MTW files. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?catid=3
You can browse the directory directly https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&id=388&catid=3
Feel free to ask for assistance.

These are just the mods I've played. There are many others.
Total conversions but still in the Medieval period:
XL
BKB Super Mod
Med Mod
All these expand significantly on the vanilla game.
Other eras:
Hellenic Total War - ancient Greece
Fall of Rome - Rome
Napoleonic Total War
Samurai Warlords - Shogun for MTW
There are others still in development worth keeping an eye on, check out The Engineers Guild.
I've had a blast playing all these and still do, though I play NTW and FoR less as I'm not so interested in those eras. You'll need a lot of disk space if you don't want to be forever re-installing MTW/VI.

Also .. "Ancient Total War" based in the Iron & Bronze age and encompassing the golden age of Biblical Chariot warfare .
PS.. Its found tucked away in a thread in the Hellenic Total War ,, which is in the hosted mods section ! perhaps one of the moderators could pin it as its own Mod
