View Full Version : An huge request to the team
I know this might not be the best moment to ask things to the team as there has been some bitterness following the 1.0 release but for the sake of knowledge I will try nonetheless.
As many of us know, EB internal forums are full of threads about whatever has been made in the mod.
I'm aware that many of those couldn't be accessible due to unpublished material issues or anything else the team would deem for them to be unfeasible but I'm reasonably sure that at least some of them could be opened to the fans for viewing.
In my very humble opinion the quantity and quality of content treasured in there would be an awesome addition to the general historical knowledge of the fanbase, a real collection of gems to benefit.
Is there any chance that the team could publish at least a few crumbles of what is stored in the internal forums?

Don't want to spoil all your hope immediately; but I must warn you that publishing unpublished work if you didn't make that work is a big no no - well basically everywhere. That's otherwise called stealing, you see. ~:)
Anywho perhaps some members feel they can give their EBH lectures on certain topics out to the public. But that is for them authors to decide. ~;)
Err, maybe I was unclear...
What I meant is that at least part of what you have in the internal forums must be non-unpublished material and getting to see even a little bit of your internal discussion would be an huge educational experience imho.

I very sincerly second this, with, as Zarax says, all due respect. All I can say is that access to such a resource would be of incalulatable help to Adametos, Malik and I, and I am sure there are others in this comunity who would be very greatful for even one tenth of the reasoning behind what we see in EB, and who would treat such material with the respect and reverence it deserves.
Well, my aim is to slowly shape XGM into a sort of EB light so the more historical material available the better.
EB is basically the most convenient source available if you canìt really do proper research on your own...
No double meaning intended, it's just that this mod is probably the best synthesis of historical sources into gameplay as possible.
P.S. Any funny sounding content in this post and the following ones is to be accounted on mohitos...

I third this... From my time as a team member with access to EBH, I know alot of the older stuff would still have relevance to people today, and that's the reason why movies always have 'the making of...' specials. I suppose unpublished works could be left out of the thing, yes? Just a summary of its content or its implications. I think what people really want to see is the decision making process, why some things were chosen, why others weren't. Mankind's like that, it's gotta see for itself rather than be told by others. XD

It would be interesting to read some of the craziness you've posted in there.
Have you posted stuff in there that would be considered just plain weird by the rest of us?

I doubt the EBH will ever be opened to the public. Not only is there ongoing work going on in there (including all EB2 material), but some things written in there are writting with the understanding that only a few known people will see it.

Now this is a serious question .
Hypothetical worst case scenario could you guys get sued for using unpublished material ?
It would require some work to release even a single thread, with all the censuring and double checking that everything is public info. The team would probably need a new member solely for that purpose. One who gets access to all these threads. A treasure land of knowledge... How about me? I nominate myself. It's a deal? Good. :lam:
Edit: That smilie hurts.
Please note, I never asked for the whole EBH to be opened but just to get everybody a chance to see whatever threads in there the team would deem safe...
It would be pretty interesting just to know how the internal faction selection process developed or even your mighty stat system...

Well, half of the backroom is devoted solely to making fun of n00bs out here in the peasant fora, you know :sweatdrop:
Here's one of the first posts about the new roman governor system though
Originally posted by me on 7-8-2007:
Alright, here is the working version of some ancilliary work I've been doing the past couple of days. Call it, the "Roman Provincial Governor Project" (RPGP)
As you know, we've been concepting this. I currently have it implemented in my game as such: Rome player builds the appropraite government (type II or type III) in X number of provinces recquired to form the historical province, and he gets an ancillary next turn telling him he's been named by the Senate as governor of such and such province. The ancillary is unique, so only one will exist in the game at any given time. The bonuses are much the same as an Attuned Governor trait, but can be changed if we like. It is transferrable, so I can foresee realistic players sending new governors every year to replace the old one. However, if the character dies with it, the ancilliary goes back to the game and waits for the next person to show up and trigger it.
I have only done provinces that were incoroporated in our time frame thus far, and am waiting for input from you guys to do others. There are two types. Proconsular provinces, and Propraetorial provinces. I've kept the historical titles, I figure its more fun for a player to pretend their character is a proconsul even if he hasnt been elected consul in the game yet.
As an example, here is the text for one:
Quote:
{Proconsul_Provinciae_Gallia_Cisalpina} Proconsularis Gallia Cisalpina
{Proconsul_Provinciae_Gallia_Cisalpina_desc}
Imperator, the Senate has ordered you to Gaul This Side of the Alps, there to take up the mantle of Proconsul and to govern the Province in accordance with Roman law. Your Imperium is absolute within the boundaries of this province, but useless once you leave it. While serving as Proconsul, you are immune to prosecution in Rome, but once the term is up you may be prosecuted for crimes by your enemies in the Senate. Normally the term is one year, but the office can be proroguated if the Senate deems it necessary.\n\n
HISTORICAL NOTES:Gallia Cisalpina, meaning "Gaul on this side of the Alps" was sometimes referred to as Gallia Citerior (Hither Gaul), Provincia Ariminum, or Gallia Togata (Toga-wearing Gaul, indicating the region's early Romanization). Gallia Transpadana denoted that part of Cisalpine Gaul between the Po and the Alps. The province was governed from Mutina.\n\nThe River Rubicon marked its southern boundary with Italia proper, and it was upon crossing this river in 49BC that Julius Caesar, with his battle-hardened legions after the conquest of Gaul, precipitated the Roman Republic into civil war and to the eventual establishment of the Roman Empire.\n\nThe province was merged into Italia about 43–42 BC, as part of Octavian's "Italicization" program during the Second Triumvirate. The end of the provincia required a new governing law or lex, though its contemporary title is unknown. The parts of it that are inscribed on a bronze tablet preserved in the museum at Parma are entirely concerned with arranging the judiciary; the lex appoints two viri and four viri juri dicundo. The lex also mentions a Prefect of Mutina. Virgil was born in Gallia Cisalpina, and was the province's most famous son.

I remember that there was talk of making the EBH public after the project was complete at some point. I'd say it's not likely for a while, though.
Heh, when it is complete... You joker you. EB is never complete!

I understand why Zarax wants some access to things, but like they said....they probably rip n00bs a new arse.

Maybe you could just tell us what Occultus means? :laugh4:

When it comes to historical matters, it would help out big time when fans ask for historical info and the details about the unit/building/event are provided, in detail, so that way all the fans do not have to default to Wikipedia constantly (that is, for those that do not have access to the deeper historical books out there, which is the vast majority of the EB players). Perhaps, understandably, all available free time is directed to making the game better. Thats a necessity of course, but it would be great if you guys could bring an extra group on board for public relations who could answer fans wanting to know extra about their favorite aspects of the game. Plenty of stuff I've read and have an understanding about just from hanging out in the IU (Indiana University) library. However, I know that before having acess there, it was impossible to find out certain things at normal libraries. I would love to volunteer for this. :book:
Perhaps its a double edged sword. We have descriptions in game from the team, about buildings, events, and units, but for many, that only wets the appetite of some who are wanting to know more information about it. Its all EB's fault hehe :clown:

i personally wouldn't mind if some older info got published, but i understand that most members are worried about upholding their "image", so not likely :book:
Well, it would be nice to see that thread about the proof of regular use of Lorica Segmentata by Bartix Camel Ninjas in 270BC for once... :clown:
Oh, and never forget about the Keltikoi Kataphraktoiiiii :egypt:

Still a noob, then? :laugh4:
When you see Team people suddenly sporting Occultus sigs that means the team's got a new faction for you which they haven't previewed yet. (Otherwise it isn't Occultus anymore. ~;))

I understand how you guys feel, I do.
I remember when first seeing the concept drawings for Hetairoi Kataphractoi, I was awed, awed and awed again. So much work that had happened prior to my arrival, and if anything, top notch work by scholars none the less.
Still, I don't think most of it is meant to be seen. EBHome is also EBHidden for a reason. You see the end result. To get there we have been through enough revisions that shouldn't ever be seen. Units very good, but not as good or they should, or not historical enough.
You see the end result, not the work that led to it. It is better that way.

Hello there,
well to make my point of view clear: it'd be nice to see some "internal stuff", but I never expect to see some, for the reasons already posted. Maybe it's better this way.
I for my part would be less interested in discussions about technical or historical aspects, but - due to two of my subjects from university (political science & sociology) - more in the decision making process and in the interaction between the members.
Nevertheless, as I said, better keep it "magic".
Yours,
Treverer
