Can someone please enlighten me with the knowledge who is represented by the hughe Eleurtheroi fleets in the Baltics:

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven fleets hanging around Rügen and are blocking the port of what will become Rostock in some hundred years. Compared with the other fleets in the game, like Carthago or Rome, this must have been the largest naval power in Ancient times. And that is my question, because this seems to be very much for Proto-Vikings or Batlic pirates. It must be something with the power of the Hanse League in her prime. But, who is it?

Well, I cannot enlighten you, but once I saw a similar TF just north of the Basc(i)an lands, where modern Biaritz is. And There was a BIG, FAT land stack of Eleutheroi. I'd guess those ships transport some rebels and do naval invasions.

... Hmm, an idea: say, you play with Sweboz? I played with SPQR and had already conquered southern Aquitania.

Perhaps a scripted naval invasion?

AI glitch. They will gather up there for some reason noone knows. Perhaps a CA man would know, but my guess is not.

Sad, very sad and very BAD too  , as this turns all (both player and AI factions) naval operations ad absurbum. You need, say as a Roman no Q(u)arthadism navy to get your fleet sunk.

Fleets are FUBAR in RTW. The AI has no idea how to use the navy (as Rome, I usually need no more than one unit of triremes to keep control of the seas during the Punic wars.......), and the Eleutheroi just loves to stack up their little navies into huge, insane stacks, in stead of raiding piecemeal which would be more historical.

Seems like the Eleurtheroi pirate spawn rates are somewhat off. They spawn and there is no one to fight them. The AI hardly uses fleets and the human only needs a few if they are going to move around. In my current Pontus campaign the caspian sea has 4 or 5 Eleurtheroi fleets. Not much you can do since there should be some risk for the human player when crossing seas

I'm starting to see far to many of these ships around Greece(playing as Maks). Soon I think it will be time to spend some of the 350,000 I have saved to clear the waters, because I daren't move on the Med until it is a little more free. Those Mega ships/fleets I can build should shift the blighters.

The ex huge poliremes will be able to take a full stack of pirates by them selves, no probs. The greeks definately rule the sea in eb.

Pirate ships are also insanely weak....I've had a 26 ship triere fleet defeat like a 200 ship pirate fleet. I think they're like 2/2 or something. I just ignore them. The only time they've ever really been a pain was my first KH campaign where I tried ruling historically greek polei from spain to the black sea....and all islands in between. I learned it simply isn't really worth the effort. The resources are better spent on land forces IMO.

Maybe if I install BI....

That would be bad, but fortuante there were no troops on these ships. They are just sailing around the Belt every few turns.

They are at home in the Northern and Baltic Sea. Since there is no real naval power in these seas, we should probably reduce the spawn rate. I am around 245 with the Sweboz and still not able to build even one ship (I wouldn't do so either because the livespan of a ship in those waters would be around one or two turns), the Casse ship is sunk and they are also not able to build new ones, and ships of the Aedui are very rare in all campaigns.

As Sweboz you don't really need ships except for taking Gawjam Gotanoz, so I usually just build one boat per campaign and use auto_win if I'm attacked by the pirates. You would need an enormous fleet to have a chance otherwise since the barbarian ships are not that strong. I don't really consider it cheating as there are way too many pirates.

A question concerning this behaviour of AI & spawning of fleets:

Would it be counting as a cheat / exploit to use "auto_win attacker/defender"?

EDIT: I mean just as long as to get rid of them fleets, so that both player and AI factions can build navies again and go on sea-battles.
